A wonderful restaurant with soul, where four generations of one family have created a truly unique atmosphere. Here, traditional cuisine blends seamlessly with innovation — the food is always delicious, and the presentation is a delight. Special thanks to the young yet incredibly talented sommelier, who always finds the perfect wine to make the evening even more memorable. And of course, the view from the terrace is a real gift for the guests

Great stay! High quality and an eye for detail. Our room was large, clean and practical & had a great view of the mountains. We also ate at the restaurant. The people are friendly and the food was good, with local ingredients. I don't usually write hotel reviews but this one was such a wonderful experience I'm happy to recommend it. Good price for this level of quality and warm welcome, in a good location.

We liked Winklern and a relaxing overnight stop at this lovely hotel. The room was large, modern and well furnished with a small veranda offering views over the surrounding mountains. The breakfast offers a large range of fresh, tasty foods and you can choose between inside or a lovely veranda with views outside. Our stay was topped off on festival day by a visit from the town brass band in full uniform. This would be a great place for bikers to stay and relax after the delights of Grossglockner. This one is definite thumbs up.

We tour the alps every year staying in a different hotel every night. This hotel was excellent. Im not sure why previous reviews were scathing but this hotel deserves all its stars. The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The little touches around the hotel make it unique. I woukd definitely recommend this hotel.

On our roadtrip, on the way to the Grosglockner Hochalpenstrasse we were looking for somewhere to stop overnight and ended up at the hotel Tauernstern, which turned out to be a very relaxing stay. A friendly lady at the frontdesk offerd us a very spacious, clean room with lovely balcony and great views. Very nice bathroom. There is not much to do in Winkler but there is a kristall museum to visit (we found out to late) and there is the wonderful 'Raggaschlucht" nearby. We went there the next morming (about 20 min drive) and it was very, very beautiful, walked for more than an hour (Uphill) wonderful views, waterfalls, kliffs, very very recommandable. The hotel itself was, as mentioned, an excellent stay.We usyally go for family hotels, or nice B&B's or Pensions, but since we also like Free WiFi, we choose this hotel (as there are not many places to choose from) and it was a very good choice. The breakfastbuffet was very, very good in the most beautiful breakfast room with large windows overlooking the valley and they offer Free WiFi. Very good beds and after a good night sleep and a delicious breakfast we were ready to drive the amazing and beautiful Grossglockner hochalpenstrasse.

We had a 6 day stay at the Tauernstern, overall very average in terms of facilities so I don’t feel like it should be presented to guests as a 4 star stay. The sauna is one of the reasons I booked and it turned out that it was open for only 2 hours (between 15:00 and 17:00) a day. The breakfast had a few nice aspects, they had good coffee and lots of cheese/fruits. However, it didn’t matter at what time we came cause the eggs were 8/10 times missing. Which was disappointing, just like the fact that there was a tiny price on the waterbottles in the room -I hadn’t even seen it.. Water usually is free in the name of hospitality -especially in a 4 star hotel. Well, this wasn’t the case and I had to pay €10,- for water that I had in my room.. I wanted to pay with card cause I didnt carry cash at that moment, which was a problem again because the lady behind the desk said that payments are only accepted by card when the cost is over €50,-. She started calling someone and then all of a sudden I was allowed to pay with card anyway. Overall definitely not a 4 star stay in my opinion. 3 stars at best.

Not a 4-star hotel. We stayed at this hotel for a week. Unfortunately there were many points which make you doubt if you want to stay here: - Upon arrival we had to make a discussion to get a Kärnten Card (allows entrance to attractions nearby). It was clearly written that it was included in the price from 6 days, we stayed 7 days. Not good to have such unwarm welcome. In the end we got it the next day, but you shouldn’t have a discussion to get what they promise. - Breakfast is only until 09:30, even when you come at 08:30, many things are empty already. - They try to take extra money by offering water that seems for free, but has a tiny price written. A bottle of water should be simply included in a ‘4-star’ hotel. - Card payments are not possible under 50 euro, it’s 2021! Very outdated. And absolutely not worthy for a 4-star hotel that you need to make a discussion about that as well. The rooms are clean though and large. The overall maintanence state is good. The staff just doesn’t make it a pleasant place to stay. It should be marked as a 3-star hotel and it will probably will get better reviews because the service in the hotel fits better to a lower standard. We won’t stay again!

There's not much to complain. The staff was friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean. The breakfast table did look like someone had pillaged it, even though we arrived 5 minutes after it had opened. I guess someone was just very hungry. The view from the room is quite nice. Yet somehow we felt the place lacked soul. But you definitely could do much worse than stay here.||||Oh, I just remembered the pillows. They were terrible.
