The Craftsmen (Amsterdam, North Holland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Once home to the long-running Hotel Brouwer, The Craftsmen isn’t your typical canal-side stay. Housed in a 17th-century townhouse overlooking Amsterdam’s Singel, this spirited boutique hotel is where Dutch artistry takes center stage. Each of its 14 rooms honors a historic trade, from cartographers to shoemakers, all with upcycled antiques and bespoke pieces. Expect vintage tools turned into light fixtures, penny-farthings in bathrooms, and airplane doors repurposed as wardrobes. It’s wildly inventive, warmly personal, and still carries the soul of a family-run inn, albeit with a lot more imagination." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed in The Tanner for three nights and it was total perfection. The hotel is centrally located near Central Station, The Anne Frank House and other attractions. There are countless shops and restaurants right outside your door, so we found it to be the perfect location for exploring the city. Check-in and check out were very efficient and the hotel was great about communicating details of your stay in email throughout. ||The room itself was exactly what I was hoping for after researching the hotel. As a corner room, the Tanner had beautiful views of the canal and lots of light. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the room was kept stocked with water with coffee pods for morning. We used the hotel’s restaurant recommendations and found a great Italian restaurant for dinner one night. ||And then there is the breakfast. We chose to have it served in the room and it was decadent. Meats, cheese, jams, pastries, mini pancakes, boiled egg, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee. It was fantastic. And I can’t say enough about the staff and their service.||This is a must stay and truly a best of the best.

Stayed in the Cartographer suite for two nights and had the most lovely stay. The room was so well appointed, breakfast was great, location is easy access to everything you need (and we opted to stick to walking, never needed a taxi!). Yes the staircase is narrow but that seems like a given if you want to stay somewhere old and on the canal (which I definitely wanted). Staff is super friendly and accommodating. I’m ready to recommend this hotel (and the city of Amsterdam for that matter) to all of my friends!

Beautiful heritage hotel, very tastefully done up and locationally well situated in terms of experiencing and absorbing the Amsterdam vibes. Claudia, the General Manager, and the staff was very helpful and courteous. The breakfast spread is an experience and they check as to whether the guest would like to have it in room or in Gallery. The rooms are tastefully done with individual personality. I was in Instrument Maker and for an individual it was a comfortable fit overlooking the street and canal. The reception desk is made of gears and instruments. The desk in my room was of piano keys. Hence, a quirky and creative hotel with a life of its own

Just had a 3 night stay in the Woodwoorker room and it was phenomenal. Breakfast Service in the morning was included and was delicious. Rooms were clean and bathroom was spacious. Everyone who works there is kind and helpful. Location is prime. 10 out of 10 would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Amsterdam is a charmed city. Beautiful in parts, wonderfully grimy in others. Fascinating all round. It functions as a city - UK visitors will appreciate this alone.||The good people at The Craftsmen were fabulous, really bringing the whole experience together. Rooms unique and interesting, immaculate and cosy. Breakfast, classy and unfussy. To a person, the team were charming, well drilled, efficient, relaxed and enthusiastic - literally everything you could ask of staff as guest or employer.||Location: perfect.||Faults....erm..... the butter at breakfast was a little hard? Is that a fault?

Let me first say that I travel the world and rarely give a 5 star rating. This place deserves the rating and more. There is a reason why this is the number 2 rated hotel in Amsterdam and has a 4.9 rating. |The staff treat you exceptionally well and are attentive to every issue you have. The location cannot be beat with so many places to eat and visit. Anne Frank or the train station is a short walk. Want a view of the canal. Well that is out your window. And then there is the morning breakfast. Prosciutto, cheese, mini pancakes, cold cuts, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice. Want more food. Just ask! |The accommodations are so comfortable. The bed feels like you are sleeping on a cloud with huge fluffy sheets and duvet. And the air conditioning works great! We stayed for the second time in the boat room. They use high high end soap and shampoo which smells great. And the water pressure is amazing in the shower. |Just a few words of caution. This place is likely not very handicapped accessible. The elevator barely holds one person. The staircase is very very steep (50 degree pitch) and narrow and again barely accommodates one person. But this is not surprising considering how European hotel staircases and elevators are. |We can’t thank everyone at the hotel more for a terrific stay!

If you are going to stay in Amsterdam, there is no other boutique hotel that will match this place. Each room is unique in its theme. The location is just far enough away from the busy tourist locations to be a bit more quite but close enough to walk to just about anything. The view of the canal is lovely. The staff is very friendly, helpful and full of great ideas for places to visit. Also the breakfast is simple but filling and presented in a wonderful way. However, I have to warm you that the elevator is a few steps up from the lobby and very small (one person and one suitcase max). Also, the staircases are tight spiral staircases to the upper floors. That was not an issue for me and my family, but should be considered. Highly recommended!!!

The design of this hotel is spectacular - and the location could not be more perfect when visiting Amsterdam. We stayed in The Tanner - corner windows with a view that is difficult to say goodbye to! Our adult son stayed in the Instrument Makers room, also with a great view of the canal. Please note that the tiny rooms (Instrument Maker included) do NOT have air conditioning. However, they provided a Dyson fan to help. The breakfast is very nice - we enjoyed it both mornings during our stay. We will stay here when we next visit Amsterdam - truly magical.
