This was my first and my fiancee's third trip to Paris. Our trip was over Christmas and we were anticipating seeing Paris in all her splendor. Both of us are retired and wanted a hotel that was centrally located to minimize walking. I did a bit of research and found Hotel Therese. The location was perfect, the price was within our budget, and we just had a good feeling about this boutique hotel.
We could not have selected a more comfortable and gracious place to stay. The hotel is a short walk from the Louvre, the Opera House, Eglise Saint Roch(Christmas Mass), Le Royal Opera restaurant(delicious French onion soup), and the Monoprix market(good wine selection). A marvelous Korean restaurant, JanTchi, was just across the street(they have a Michelin Star). Shopping was almost too accessible with Rue Saint-Honore only blocks away(Channel, Dior, Hermes,...). A slightly longer walk over the Seine will find you at Notre Dame(the front façade is still intact). We walked extensively at all hours of the day and night and always felt safe. In fact, we met a young lady named Layla at 11:00 pm and talked with her for over 30 minutes about her life in Paris.
Upon entering the front door of the hotel we were greeted warmly by Said, the concierge, who assisted in our check-in. The elevator quickly took us to our fourth floor room. The room, "Tradition", was cozy but large enough to meet our needs. The room was spotless, the bed was just right(not too firm/not too soft), and the bath had plenty of hot water. The towels and linen were luxurious and plentiful. We overlooked the courtyard but rooms with a street view are available. The room was soundproof as we heard no noises at night.
Their staff is fluent in English(our skills in French are rudimentary). The manager, Fanny, was extremely helpful and responsive in making our reservations online from Tucson, AZ. The front desk personnel, especially Viviana, were helpful in guiding us to various sights and procuring discounted tickets to attractions. A quick story, on the first night I took our rental car to a parking garage and got lost walking back to the hotel(my phone died, Paris streets are winding, it was late at night, I took the wrong turn...). It should have been a 5 minute walk, so after 45 minutes Said was very concerned and was ready to call out the gendarmes. [Note: If you need to park a car, use Parking Public le Louvre and reserve on line].
The breakfast was scrumptious and plentiful. The scrambled eggs were special as were all the varieties of breads offered. We were late risers so we looked forward to a 9:30 am breakfast each morning. The other guests we met in the restaurant were from all over the world, most return customers.
The lobby is altogether inviting with two sitting areas. Afternoon refreshments are served. A great place to watch the world go by and meet fellow travelers.
We can't say enough nice things about our stay at Hotel Therese. We highly recommend the hotel and when back in Paris we will stay there again.
