Thomahof (Hinterzarten, Baden-Wurttemberg) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Lovely cheerful rooms differing greatly in size can be found at this personally-run hotel. Most rooms have a balcony, and those overlooking the garden are particularly pleasant. Some have a tiled stove. Restaurant with a cosy atmosphere serving regional food." - Tablet Hotels

An Unforgettable Stay at Hotel Thomahof Our stay at Hotel Thomahof was nothing short of fantastic. The staff were absolutely wonderful and made us feel right at home. It was an unforgettable way to experience the beauty of the Black Forest. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for making our visit so special.

The kindest people are working in this hotel. The food in the restaurant is really good, thanks to chef. And the location is nice, it’s quiet area, but also a playground is close)

We last stayed at this hotel 26 years ago and it’s still as well run and traditional|Set with sunny balconies offering views into the forest as well as lovely walks , the hotel has big rooms ( with space to work and sit). We had not realised that we had booked half pension, which included an extensive breakfast, a set menu dinner ( with a number of options- including vegetarian) and even a choice of the best cake in the afternoon ( we put on a couple of kgs) 😜 The restaurant staff we superb, extremely friendly and spoke excellent German and English. |The pool was fabulous, with loungers to relax in and breathe in the oxygen from the nearby forest. |The free rail pass was a nice touch allowing us to travel in the surrounding area without the hassle of parking and traffic. |Our only improvement suggestion would be to have more outdoor eating and areas. The front Terrance filled up very fast and as most doors and windows are closed in Germany, eating outside would have been a bonus.

Visited Hinterzarten with our 10year old grand-daughter who was keen to see something of Germany. We had been there before (stayed at the Adler) but this time wanted something a little lower key so we chose the Hotel Thomahof. We were all delighted!||||The rooms were lovely and, as promised, close to each other. Each had a balcony with a lovely view of the forest. we were all very comfortable. The food was excellent and I particularly appreciated the staff's willingness to accomodate a somewhat picky eater (my granddaughter) and someone who doesn't care for large portions (me). The price of the room included an excellent breakfast with hot dishes as well, a more than copious piece of cake each at tea time and a superb dinner. We hardly needed to buy lunch.||||The Thomahof has a lovely spa area - large indoor pool kept at about 27° which my granddaughter loved and did not want to leave (!), plus for adults a sauna, fitness and a salt water pool at 32°. Staying at the hotel is, as a result, like staying in a small resort.||||One small negative - there is no AC. This would not normally be needed though but it was very hot during our stay. Fortunately I had read another review here on TA which said it would be nice to have a fan in the room - so we brought one from home which was easy to do since we drove. The hotel might consider equipping every room with a fan for hot nights since with global warming we are likely to have more and more of these even up in the Black Forest!||||Hinterzarten is a very nice small village - everything is walkable from the hotel. We were given a Konus card each on arrival at the hotel which entitled us to free local transport and discounts at shops in the village. We used these to visit Freiburg while there. This is a great benefit.||||I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and will be sure to stay there again. Hopefully soon!

No tea or coffee making facility’s in the room ! Room was nice but very tired , bed was fine but pillows were flat hence no support ! ||Afternoon tea which was included in our stay was nice ! we asked for extra hot water as my wife likes quite weak tea we were advised we would have to pay for hot water ! !! Great as we were paying £350 per day ..

We waited more than an hour for our meal when there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. The portions that came is also ridiculous. I ordered a kid size schnitzel and an adults portion. They were the same size! Will never come again for sure. Edited: As per the owner family’s comment below, correction on my part: yes for the adults portion there was 2 slices and the kids one. Each adult slice was half my hand size. Yes I did receive a “top up” and I thank you for giving it at no additional cost. However, please note that this was asked by me, after waiting for 1.5 hours. And not offered proactively by anyone. From 12.30, we waited and the meals were only served at 2pm, after chasing 3 times and told repeatedly that the dishes were coming. And that it was late because they were short of a cook in the kitchen (how is that a reason valid to the guests?) However, other tables around us were served right away. With that said, of course there was nothing left on the plates. Do you expect anything left after starving guests? And I thank you for your straight forward, almost non apologetic, reply, and we won’t be returning for sure. If your judgement of good restaurant standards are only by how much food is left on a plate, and not the full experience. I guess that justifies your sarcastic comment on thanking for us not returning. Let me more straight with my review, the food wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad either. However, the service. Horrid. You have wasted our time. By the time we finished the meal, there was hardly any sunlight left for the activities outdoors. Your staff lack customer service for a hospitality area. Your answer lacks awareness and eludes only your ego. A simple apology would have sufficed. It would have been much appreciated if this was managed better considering we had 3 guests above 65 and 2 under 3. Having said that, my review stays and I’ll leave it for others to judge.

We had a family meet up here in honor of family members who passed and regularly stayed here each summer. We had people from Chicago, Detroit, Netherlands and Switzerland. ||The hotel was charming from the moment we arrived until the minute we left. The staff was very professional and were very kind to us non German speakers. ||The food was very good. The hotel is only a short walk to the charming downtown. Plus it is convenient for hiking in the forest. ||This hotel is a solid choice if you are in the area.

Great place, with very nice SPA zone, not a big one but very comfortable. |My room always big, with a wall dividing the zone with bed from the one with sofa.|TV in each zone.|Nice view on white mountains |Parking area is small but it was easy to find a spot. |Also the restaurant is a good, with local atmosphere. |Professional staff.|Breakfast is rich as well with a large choice of different things, also dedicated to vegans and people with some allergies.|Only one defect: a bit too pricy||Totally suggested
