Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa

"Introduce us to this place. This landmark five-star hotel has been earning and keeping its reputation as one of Lisbon’s poshest Chiado addresses since 1933. The gold-and-turquoise lobby makes quite the first impression, and the rest of the gorgeous twinkling property is just as impressive. Sounds pretty fabulous. What kinds of guests does it draw? This hotel is a magnet for celebrities, royalty, and politicians, making it worth the trip for the people-watching and eavesdropping alone. Indeed! How's the service? Were they helpful with check-in?It's some of the most finely attuned hospitality in Portugal; quality is consistent across the board, whether you’re saying hi to the housekeeper or seeking recommendations from the concierge. One note: The sprawling property does take a day or two to find your way around. Thanks for the heads-up. Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about the digs.Elegant rooms are stamped with a soothing palette of blue, white, brown, and soft lighting; there are custom linens, oversize bathrooms with soaking tubs, and desks. As you might imagine, the nicer the room, the bigger the space and the better the perks. How about the little things, like the mini bar, or the shower goodies? Anything that made your stay more comfortable?Rooms are equipped with everything you need for an easy stay: custom toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, an executive desk, Nespresso machine, a pillow menu, and an impressive minibar. Excellent. How about the room service and the dining options in general?Cervejaria Liberdade sources its seafood from across the Portuguese coastline, serving memorable food in a classic, dark-wood room illuminated by chandeliers. Opt for the fresh seafood bar or order entrees like tiger prawns and rice. Got it. Any other services or features you want to shout out? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Perched high above the fray, Sky Bar is easily Lisbon’s most high-end rooftop bars, serving up craft cocktails, live music, and views of Lisbon’s terracotta roof. When you need pampering, head to the Anantara Spa. Will do. Bottom line: Why book a room here?Stay here for an upscale getaway with great views." - Jenna Scatena

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal) 9 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Lisbon is all aflutter with new hotels, but spare some attention for a classic: the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, first established in 1933, is back after a substantial renovation that returns it to the top of its game — the lobby feels like a gallery where the guests are on display, a throwback to the days when a luxury hotel’s lobby was like a substitute town square." - Tablet Hotels

I had the job to host a corporate event in Lisbon and we were almost 40 individuals that spent 3 nights at the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Hotel. And it was all AMAZING. The events team, the concierge and Spa teams were just fabulous. We did not have to worry about anything but were so well taken care of during our stay, we did not want to leave. The communication beforehand was excellent, transparent and quick and efficient. The location of the hotel is perfect, right on the main street and close to many fab restaurants. The atmosphere was so lovely, even just sitting in the lobby for a drink was relaxing. The rooms were fab, amazing bathroom. Very clean and the service was excellent. Best Spa I have ever been to. The rooftop bar is amazing with the best view. Value was 100% worth what we paid. Even though it is so big and so centrally located, the noise level was minimal. I would suggest to everyone to go there and stay. I will be going back privately for sure!

My husband and I had a beautiful stay at this magnificent hotel in Lisbon. The amenities, quality and rooms are fantastic and very quiet - with a very comfortable bed and bathrooms are luxurious. ||The location is in the heart of Lisbon and we walked over 15 miles to everything we wanted to explore. It is perfect ||The food in the restaurant is excellent as is the room service- from the food to the staff. For room service, this is the best we’ve had. Their lobby bar is elegant and they have wonderful live music. ||The front desk is so professional, kind and accommodating. Inês Pires and Pedro Carapinha are two exceptional and wonderful people. They both went out of their way to make our stay even more memorable. ||Our only place to stay here in gorgeous Lisbon.

Our room, #428, was lovely and had a spacious balcony overlooking the attractive, but busy, Avenida de Liberdade. The room was tastefully decorated and well designed for comfort. The hotels location is ideal for vacationers who desire easy access to important sites and fine dining. Hotel service was attentive and pleasant. The breakfast buffet was among the best we've experienced. We enjoyed staying at the Tivoli and would recommend it, highly.

After 6 months of absence, i have returned to the Tivoli Liberdade again and it did not disappoint. I very much enjoyed the lunch at the refurbished Cervejaria. A must do during my stay. The staff is very attentive and the rooms keep up well. My room was facing the Avenida and I enjoyed two good rests. The location is excellent for all business related meetings and even for a run to the river. I will be back.

We stayed three nights after a cruise. American Express Fine hotel. The Concierge reaches out to you before you arrive and can help you book tours. We let them know of our 9:45 am arrival and greatly appreciated that they had a room ready for us and even upgraded to a city view. The room was a comfortable size with a large table and two chairs. The Fine hotel welcome gift was three maroons each representing different tastes of locations in Portugal with a small bottle of port - really nice welcome gift!||For night lights, if you leave the closet door open, the light is motion activated and the vanity mirror light can be left on. The shower was in the tub with high sides. There is a toilet and separate bidet.||My two dislikes were: It was difficult to get to the toilet unless you closed the bathroom door or squeezed around the door, since the toilet was behind the door. The other was the shower - you had to get into the tub to turn on the water, so you are likely to get some cold water on you unless you knew exactly how to adjust the various knobs so the water came out of the handheld showerhead vs the overhead shower or the faucet. ||I appreciated the Nespresso espresso maker and refrigerator and bottles of water. I also appreciated the new boxes of tissues when I showed an empty box due to my cold/bronchitis.||The hotel is on the "Champs-Élysées" Portugal version street with luxury stores and tented vendors on the weekends. It is a short walk, 10 minutes, to the Parque Edwardo VII park where the Hop On/Hop Off and Cityrama Gray Line tour buses are located.||I was impressed by the breakfast buffet every day and the staff. We came first thing and also one day towards the end - the food was always fresh, refreshed, and delicious - with eggs, breakfast meats, cold cuts, cheeses, waffles, and beautiful fresh, sliced fruit and several fruit juices. You can also get coffee or cappuccinos. The staff was always attentive, whisking away a used plate and giving you fresh silverware. ||We ate at Seen Lisboa and Cervejaria Liberdade Portugese restaurants enjoyed the cuisine.

Google
This hotel is by far the best! Extremely clean, amazing service, great food and lovely rooms. Breakfast 630-10 saved us when we needed to be up early and perfect when we wanted to sleep in. The lobby bar had drinks that were 10/10 along with great food! We ate dinner there two nights in a row. Every employee was so nice and helpful. I will be returning.

Yelp
We stayed at the Hotel Tivoli on Avenida Liberdade for our visit to Lisbon in 2022. (It was the assigned hotel for our Viking Douro river cruise.) It was an outstanding hotel on the Avendida da Liberdade, the tiled main shopping street. Great breakfast buffet, the best I have had in a European hotel. Lunch is available from the lobby bar between sightseeing trips. The Marques de Pombal traffic circle and Edward VII Park is a short walk in one direction. Restoration Square and the start of the old town are a few blocks in the other direction. Along the way you will find restaurants, the central Museum Store, and one of the Lisbon funiculars. The closest Metro station is Avenida. Rooms are modern, with USB jacks and sufficient electrical outlets. The hotel restaurant, Cervejaria Liberdade, serves lunch and dinner. Note that you must have your keycard in order to access your floor on the elevator/lift. There are many other amenities, such as the rooftop bar and lounge, of which we did not have time to partake.

Yelp
What a great hotel. Wonderful location, excellent service, good size rooms with excellent amenities, and a wonderful bar and restaurant. This was our first trip to Lisbon and this hotel made it all so easy for us. I don't have a lot of specifics to add because I can just broadly say that it hit all the right notes in every area. Beds were very comfortable. Rooms were a good size and the temperature easy to control. Bathrooms gave plenty of space. Breakfast was excellent. Bell staff always welcoming. If you visit Lisbon, stay here.

Yelp
Nightmare. Let's go to the good part and then I'll jump right into the issues here. Rooms are nice looking, the ambience and assistance you get right away is super on point. On to the nightmare. We are on our third room and it's just as awful as the first room #348 AC Broken #426 'upgraded' to smaller bed with well working AC #316 AC Broken & No cold water coming out of the shower My partner refuses to move back. I'm gonna sleep on top of the bed cause it's hot in this 'AC Working Room' that they promised us. I got the window cracked open to let some polluted air in. This is not what I expect from a 5 star hotel. If I were alone, I'd have had them open every damn room they had with a king size bed and working AC, but I'm cuffed to their rescue. Now I hafta meditate and act like my partner who was trying to spend the big bucks for an amazing hotel in Lisbon did well. Love that kinda stress. Here's to three sweaty and expensive nights.

Yelp
Lisbon is a gorgeous city with a vibrant art scene filled with people who reflect the same virtue. Down the street that contains the Tivoli lies shops and stores you would expect in some of the finest places around the world ranging from Louis Vuitton to Chanel. For those from America it could remind you of some of the gorgeous tree lined streets of New York or Boston. When you walk in you are welcomed with a panoramic view of the lobby that can only be described as cinematic. Large open flooring is seen with live music being played as gorgeous set piece furniture welcomes all to sit and relax. With such high expectations coming into this setting you start to anticipate what might be awaiting you once in your room. Once you get into your room you'll see the hallways feel plush, quite decadent. You could imagine movies utilizing these corridors for the next Bond film. Walking inside and you get a gorgeous room where cleanliness and style come together. Depending on the floor you might get a view of the inner court with the pool or perhaps looking out into the coastline and cityscape. Either way, it's hard not to feel like you are a VIP sitting in such an extravagant room. The bathroom is also large with its vanity mirror and a separate section for the toilets. Yes, toilets as they do have one for traditional Western styling and one where it might be unfamiliar to you if you don't understand its use. The shower is with a tub and though I loved the toiletries that came with the room I found the glass screen for the shower was too shallow and allowed water to easily get on the bathroom floor and the bathrobes were of harsh material. Another negative of this hotel could be attributed to its elevators. There are only two sets of two elevators on either side of the lobby. As they are older elevators, they run slower and you can often see many guests waiting for the elevators to get to their rooms. It is the most glaring negative of this hotel and for some could be the difference between a great stay and an inconvenient one. Overall, I cannot wait to stay here once more when visiting Lisbon. The staff is of high caliber, the ambience oozes luxury, and aside from the negatives you can feel like you're being pampered every moment you spend here. If you are someone who enjoys staying at the best hotels and feeling like you are a rockstar this is the hotel to visit when you're in Lisbon.

Yelp
Great hotel with an excellent staff. Loved the location, service, decor, EVERYTHING! Great spacious room with current decor. Breakfast was wonderful and the bar & restaurant (Seen) at the rooftop is a must visit. Thanks for an amazing and memorable stay.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to stay in Lisbon, this is the place! Staff goes above and beyond to make sure your experience is 5 star. The breakfast in the morning is amazing. The quality of food is great. There is no better hospitality than the family environment given by the crew at Tivoli. We've stayed twice already and can't wait for our next trip! 5 Star!

Yelp
I stayed in this wonderful hotel for about six nights. It is currently undergoing a remodel so I think I am speaking for the old version, which was quite great! Located in a very central accessible part of Lisbon, this hotel is a perfect spot to explore the city. My room was incredibly comfortable and very quiet. There were automated blackout shades, that made my jetlag transition smoother, as I could sleep during the day in pure darkness. Although this also made the threat of oversleeping in the mornings very easy and I almost missed my appointment Monday morning! Set your alarm. In room dining was excellent and moderately priced. I had a prosciutto and arugula salad and soup on two occasions in my room it was great. Make sure to get breakfast with your room rate and enjoy breakfast from one of the most scenic vantage points in the city at their ninth floor sky lounge where you can watch the sun come up over Lisbon. The breakfast buffet is gigantic, spread over 10 or 12 tabletops. They will greet you with orange juice and coffee. One very weird thing we noticed is that you really have to beg beg beg beg for a 2nd cup of coffee. Even on day six. Speaking of coffee, before you press that Nespresso button in your room, be aware that you may or may not be charged two euros per cup of coffee in your room. Some of our party were charged for the coffees they drank in their room, others were not. Coffee seems to be at a premium at this hotel. Service was good, English was everywhere, the bell service was great, getting a taxi was easy, and there is a metro station right outside the door, plus tons of great dining within one or two blocks. You can walk to many of Lisbon sites from this hotel. All that being said, this doesn't make it quite to five-star experience, but a very very solid choice for the tourist!
google avatar

Mirko P.

Yelp
Love the place. Pretty large hotel for this market. Looks like is used a lot for the tourist groups. Rooms are standard, full service and amenities, but some small thing have to be fixed for 5 stars hotel. Sink in bathroom was slow and shower cabin has to have better sealing. Water on the floor is not fun
google avatar

Yelp
Our taxi driver was extremely impressed with the Tivoli Lisboa, going on at length about the idyllic location on Lisbon's Champs Élysées and the hotel chain's strategic significance in propping up one of the nation's bank chains. Upon arrival, we appreciated the multilingual guest service, generously proportioned room, close proximity to restaurants and shopping, and lush garden pool. Oh, and the bed - extremely comfortable. In contrast to the large room, the bathroom with its floor to ceiling carrara marble, was very tight. They charge $15 a day for wifi, stingy given the $300 euro nightly rate. Or perhaps I just had an inferiority complex surrounded by so many nattily dressed and well heeled European travelers. A fine hotel, but a tad high fallutin' for my easy breezy ways.

Haniya S.

Yelp
5-star hotel with 1-star service The one-star is specifically for the breakfast service. The buffet was amazing. Everything else in Liberdade was not. The rooms were relatively small for the value, and the appliances were subpar. I was using the hair dryer and it kept turning off so I called the front desk. Instead of bringing me a working dryer, they told me to hold on to the cold button so it would keep running. I would expect a 5 star hotel to provide a working blow dryer so I didn't have to dry my hair with cold air. Even worse, our safe had a low battery issue and would not let us open to get our passports. We had to call twice to have an attendant come up to our room to open the safe with a master key. This was especially stressful as we were trying to catch a train to Porto. We barely made it on to the train. Amex Platinum travelers beware! I booked this hotel with a platinum card expecting the promotions associated with the Fine Hotel and Resorts program. My husband and I had to argue with the staff, including the attending manager, to receive SOME of benefits. We never were able to use the $100 hotel credit because the staff failed to properly follow up with American Express to confirm the benefits. This was after the atrending manager promised us she would followup during our checkin. It was only on our last night that I called Amex to find out if we would get late check out that they confirmed they never received a call from the hotel. After the rep talked with the front desk, the hotel finally gave us the $100 credit. But given how late this was in our stay, we weren't able to use it. The situation was made worse because the staff provided few solutions and kept asking us how they could fix the situation instead of figuring something out for us. Anytime we suggested something, there would be some kind of issue so we ultimately got nothing. The attending manager who promised to follow up with AMEX also didn't offer an apology and instead avoided us while we were speaking to the front desk. The excuse? The hotel manager noted the reason was due to a conference held at the hotel. It did not feel great to hear that our treatment was deprioritized. Especially given the price we paid for our stay, and the expectations for such a reputable hotel. We will not be staying here again, nor recommend anybody do so. Spend your money elsewhere. Maybe stop by for the breakfast if you're in the area.

Yelp
Every part of our experience has been first class. The front desk personnel were fast and curious. The bar help were amazing. And the rooms, although small, had all of the necessary amenities tomboy need! I would recommend it to anyone coming to Lisbon.

Yelp
I love stately hotels. The Tivoli Lisboa is one of them. I feel somewhat royal when staying at them. The Tivoli was very professional. The doors to our taxi were opened for us by the doorman and our luggage was quickly brought inside by another hotel staff. He then came right back to us, and since he had read our names that were on the luggage he referred to us by name when pointing out where he had put the luggage while we check in. Check in was quick and friendly. Smiles seemed genuine. The receptionist also pointed out that WIFI was available fir free in public areas if we wanted to have it inside the room, there was a charge but if we signed up for info for the free independent hotels such as the Tivoli, there would be no charge. Our luggage was brought to the room which had everything you would want or was necessary. I like the high ceilings in the older hotels. Not everyone can have a view to the street and our view was to the inside of the U formed by the 2 wings of the hotel. Such is life and it us the luck of the draw. I can't complain about that. The concierge was helpful in answering our questions and the meal we ate at the rooftop restaurant was absolutely delicious. The lobby lounge is huge. It was a little expensive though as it us usual in all hotels. The location is perfect. Easy for all avenues of transportation. Location seems central. Breakfast was plentiful and comfortable. Decor elegant. Only one complaint about this hotel - the bed had a hump along the middle. Otherwise everything was great I would stay here again.

Yelp
Great location. Enjoyed the delicious breakfast buffet. Wonderful lobby bar with bar menu. Great selection of local beer and Portuguese wines. Try the Planalto white! Rooms are small by American standards but very well appointed. Bathroom have a great shower and nice array of products and supplies. Comfy bed. Every staff member was polite and attentive. Must be a great place because the President of Switzerland and her entourage were staying here at same time as us!

This is a fabulous hotel. Clean, updated with a professional and attentive staff. The breakfast which was included was unbelievable. There was nothing overlooked. Wonderful experience and a great location near everything. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
I was impressed when I first walked in, and really wanted to love this place. But I didn't... The beds were extremely comfortable, the breakfast was a good buffet, and the location is great. There were so many hiccups in this trip that I wouldn't stay again: 1. They first put me in the same room as my boss. After getting that fixed, my key card didn't work. Not a fun experience at 1030 pm, when all I want to do is sleep. 2. The keys stopped working on the third day. 3. They messed up my check out day. Another half hour fiasco. 4. The sky bar was closed, and they wouldn't honor the free drink voucher at the other bars. Not a big deal, but not very service-oriented for a "5 star" hotel. The drink could only be a small glass of gross port, I found out the next day. I didn't drink it. It was that awful. 5. Too much attention paid to trying to make money off of you. Paying for nespresso pods? Not I any other hotel have I had to.

Yelp
EXCELLENT LOCATION. super comfortable beds. Model material front desk staff, yet very professional! Great pool area. Turkish bath and sauna. So convenient as you are right at Oriente Station. Did I mention the bed is exceptional!

Yelp
Wonderful accommodations. Extremely comfortable beds with top notch linens/towels/feather beds, etc. the service is outstanding. The service/staff have earned each star during our one week stay here. The location is terrific for walking, taxis/ Uber or TukTuks. We even enjoyed the flea market/antiques market that set up for n the park across the street. The food has been amazing. The hotel breakfast buffet is fresh fruit, cheese, freshly baked breads, freshly sqeezed juices, omelette, eggs, etc. The types of ceviche and quality is wonderful.

Dennis L.

Yelp
Not the most modern hotel, but it has charm. The location is easily the best thing about this place. You can walk to a lot of Lisbon's major tourist spots from this hotel. The staff is great here too. They gave my wife and I free champagne and desserts for our honeymoon. After carrying our luggage to our room, the bellhop left before I could tip him. The free breakfast is very good and in a nice setting. Try going up to the rooftop restaurant to check out the views. I'm not a big fan of the pool. It has an urban garden feel which others may like though.

Terri-Lynn T.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this hotel at the moment. This hotel is where Viking River Cruises puts guests while in Lisbon on two night pre-cruise stay for their Douro River Cruise. My husband and I flew overnight and arrived here at 5:20 am. It is now 9am and we are still in the lobby waiting for a room. The Viking Rep said this is happening every week. Our air arrangements were made by Viking so they clearly realized we would be here at this hour. Meanwhile about 100 Viking guests checked out an hour ago and they are still claiming they don't have a room. In an hour they couldn't have cleaned a single room! Not sure who is to blame here but I suspect both Tivoli Lisboa and Viking are making a lot of money on these trips every week and I would expect more from them on this as I surely would not have booked this trip if I knew we would have to sleep in a hotel lobby all morning

Yelp
Great hotel with great location. Their rooms are clean and very modern. The personal was nice. The only I didn't enjoy was the breakfast buffet was almost empty when there was 30 min to close, so I had to go earlier to catch more selection. Would expect better. Did enjoy my stay.
