The Best Hotels in the United Kingdom: 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards

"Olga Polizzi’s elegant seafront hotel on the edge of the picturesque village of St. Mawes in Cornwall is made up of a cluster of five immaculate white houses. The 30 bedrooms are decorated with Cornish art and furnished with an emphasis on high standards of craftsmanship and eye-catching fabrics: chic striped or muted florals in sea blue and white, and retro armchairs set with contemporary pieces. All offer magnificent views towards St. Antony’s Lighthouse. The best room is perhaps the Master Suite, featuring a “crow’s nest” terrace with unbroken views and a wood-burning stove in the lounge area. Just below the hotel stands the beach club, and in the restaurant the head chef, Paul Wadham, cooks up a storm with local produce that includes a variety of fresh fish. There’s even an option, for those who want to get out on the water, of taking a ride on the Tresanton’s 48-foot yacht, Pinuccia, built in 1939 to race for Italy, which is about as romantic as it gets." - Ramsay Short

Stunning place to get married and just an awesome place to be!! as a wedding photographer I have pretty much been to every hotel in Cornwall and I have to say this is one of the very best! The attention to detail and level of care are just a few of the things that make this place stand out above the rest.

The perfect little 30 room boutique hotel by the sea. I had a generous room with a huge terrace. Recommended for an escape if you want a hideout without the buzz of a village and lots of tourists. Cream tea came warm and delicious!

What a great hotel. Our room was immaculate with a sea view and nice and warm considering the weather! Lovely dinner and excellent breakfast. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff from the minute I called to make the booking to checking out. Especially Lydia and Dragos in the dog club. Will definitely return

I had the most amazing stay here with my two friends - and they let Peanut The Wonder Dog stay as well!|The staff are solicitous and really well trained. The decor is beautiful - classy, yet homely.|We had all our meals in the hotel as the food is so good.|One of the best places I have ever stayed in the UK.

Hotel is pleasant, staff friendly and attentive, food good but just don’t feel the hotel warrants its £500 a night bnb price tag. |We stayed in room 10 in the main house, disappointing decor as so bland and neutral, pale green and grey. Room size fine, though felt the emperor bed was somewhat oversized. The main problem was the noise from the room above, the floorboards creaked loudly when the occupants walked around which woke me each night of our 3 night stay. Also could hear every word of conversations in the courtyard below. Small matters - the weather was very hot, the room stuffy when curtains were pulled , too hot for a duvet. A sheet on the bed would have been perfect . The bathroom had recently been renovated, very nice although plastic shower tray surprising and toilet seat/ lid not soft close ( isn’t this standard now?) . Toiletries , Bramley, a nice range but would have preferred all to be the same perfume. Ended up smelling like a flower shop. |Hotel is nicely decorated but very tight, gardens are either side of the 120 plus steps on the hillside. In fact steps are everywhere, really not suitable for the elderly or very young children. The exterior of the buildings on the hillside looked tatty, I would not have been happy looking out onto the roof. |Luckily the weather was amazing so we could take advantage of the hotel owned beach club across the road, 3 terraces on harbour wall with loungers/ tables etc. I’m afraid though in less than perfect weather this hotel would be too claustrophobic for me!

I was debating between Tresanton and the Idle Rocks. Chose this because I loved the decor and the warm, friendly way Olga Polizzi describes it. It was the right choice for us. The wonderful friendly staff make everyone feel at home. The decor throughout is charming and personal, not the now ubiquitous modern luxury look. The views are outstanding and the location, a five minute walk from town, is great. This was our first trip to Cornwall and we visited several different areas. Saint Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula were favorite spots. We loved taking the King Harry Ferry over. Other recommendations nearby: dinner at The Watch House, St Just in Roseland Church, Trelissick Garden.

To the restaurant at the Tresanton|Hotel for Sunday lunch with friends . For a number of years we have started our weeks holiday on The Roseland with Sunday lunch at this lovely hotel . In the sunshine outside it’s a lovely setting . This year we had loads of sunshine . We had a bit of a car crash at first with service from the very young staff but it was sorted by a senior staff member who was superb and insisted on looking after us throughout thereafter.|I had the best oysters I have ever had , a lovely gazpacho with crab and then some venison with a red berry source and vegetables. My wife had mussels and venison . Our friends had other starters all superb . One person had Dover sole which was wonderful. I abandoned dessert the others had ice cream and other treats which they said were great . We had a cocktail each and a bottle of Polly Fume and some people also had brandy with coffee. We were there from 12:30 to about 4 :30 . A lovely lazy way to start a holiday. The bill was horrific , just this side of ludicrous but as a one off annual treat is ok . | For us this is a high pint of the holiday .

Staff are lovely and so is the food but…. We spent £500 a night and we’re kept awake most of the evening and night because of a wedding reception. I know hotels make a lot of money for weddings but to put us in a room underneath the restaurant where we can hear constantly all day chairs being moved and then the wedding is unacceptable… will never stay here again!
