Great location close to station and in central Malang, and you kind of have to stay here. Everything said in other reviews stands up, the restaurant is excellent and the afternoon tea delightful, the pool is lovely though there are only 5 sunbeds. Since many people are on tours in the morning this isn't the problem it might be. However we didn't share the view of the service here, which seemed forced and not genuine. Our check in was no fun and we were charged 50000IDR on check out for losing one plastic key - annoying when you have spent over 4m with them. So a mixed bag. Also the Superior Rooms aren't superior they are small dated and basic with very little soundproofing, especially on the doors. The beds are comfortable though. We were shown two on the ground floor, neither very nice (one had a shower that would not drain despite several attempts to unblock it) and were eventually moved to the first floor to a better but smaller room with a tiny bathroom (215). We didn't upgrade to Executive but I think on the basis of our experience this would be worth doing. So a mixed bag, still a good hotel in a fascinating historic building, but the rooms are tired and 4* in our view, not 5. Service could show some genuine warmth. By the way, early Sunday morning there is a joyful but noisy public aerobics session in the square outside - go and join in, it's hilarious fun!
