This hotel is in prime position for exploring the multitude of delights that Prague has to offer. It also has the unique trump card up its' sleeve of having the only roof top terrace with prime views of the old town square and the clock tower. As for the quality of the services supplied, be it the rooms, restaurant, food or drinks on offer, bar(s), front of house staff, reception staff and even the style and cleanliness, then I can guarantee that you should not be disappointed. The staff were excellent throughout and were amazing. The food was equally as impressive and was great value; if you are a fan of the film Falling Down, then you won't have any "Whammy burger moments". My only regret is that we weren't staying longer in order that I could sample everything from the menu. So, if you are seeking an absolute gem, then look no further than here.

Google
In the middle of it all. The hotel.is fantastic, I think a lot of these reviews are abiut the restaurant in the square. The rooms are classic eastern European and the service was great. Grab a coffee in the morning on their rooftop deck or a cocktail at night. We had a very positive experience here

"Room with a view" We had a dream experience of Prague. What made it for us special was room 23 with balcony. It's unique view and you won't find the same easily/nowhere. You can enjoy it comfortably 24/7 while drinking you coffee. The room is very spacious in an old classic style. You like it or not. But for us as smokers with a little dog, the balcony was ideal!

The hotel is ideally situated for the tourist attractions in the old town square. However, as an old hotel, it needs a major refurbishment. The beds are like sleeping on concrete. The furniture in our room needed taking away and rebuilding as it was falling apart. The bathroom sink was cracked such that it needed replacing. The only window, to the front elevation, was so small and not double-glazed, thus it didn't keep out the noise from the drunks and the clock, especially late in the evening ! |We booked bed and breakfast. The buffet breakfast left a lot to be desired. We went out to other restaurants who did really good cooked breakfasts for a reasonable price. Steak and eggs with good quality baguette. Heaven!||Would I go back to Prague? Oh yes, but stay in a more European hotel where the beds etc were of a better quality, and away from the noise !!

Location of the U Prince is fabulous but that is a blessing and a curse. Its a blessing as my husband has limited ability walking so we were right in the heart of things but a curse as on a Thursday (and probably the whole weekend) the noise outside didn't stop until 4am. It was so bad that it felt like there was no glass in the windows.||The buffet breakfast isn't worth having in my opinion. Its definitely better to go out to eat, but the staff were good. ||Bed was like sleeping on concrete but the room was kept clean and tidy. The other challenge is that the roof terrace is so popular, it can be quite a wait for a lift to get back upstairs.

This was not my first trip to the U Prince and it will always be my first choice when visiting Prague. The hotel central areas are traditional and beautiful and unlike similar hotels where I have stayed, the rooms reflect this with traditional decor and furnishings. The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to help and advise and the rooms are extremely clean and well maintained. We chose a junior suite, which had a mezzanine bedroom with the biggest bed I've ever seen. The bed linen is crisp and the pillows fluffy. Everything feels very luxurious.

Google
A disappointing experience at U Prince Restaurant that, regrettably, left a lot to be desired. We ordered starters and mains, but they arrived at the same time, which immediately raised eyebrows. The soup—something you’d expect to be piping hot—was cold. We sent it back, only for it to be returned in the same tepid state. Given it was -4°C outside, we reluctantly ate it just to get some warmth. When asked if we were ready for mains, I hoped for better. I’d ordered something simple—a burger. Sadly, it was anything but fresh. It had clearly been languishing under a hot plate: the bun was burnt, the chips were limp and lifeless, and the burger patty itself was stone cold. When I raised this with the staff, they took it away, only to return it suspiciously fast—clearly microwaved. The taste? Appalling. To add insult to injury, the service staff were curt and unbothered, giving off an air of indifference rather than hospitality. Frankly, I wouldn’t recommend U Prince Restaurant to anyone. A deeply underwhelming experience all round. Best avoided.

Google
I dined at Hotel U Prince today and encountered several issues. After requesting my bill, I waited for 20 minutes without receiving it, causing a disruption to my schedule. When I finally got the receipt, I noticed a 12.5% service charge added without any prior notice. I asked the waitress if the service charge was mandatory, and she said yes and confirmed that it was normal practice and refused to remove it. As a customer, I believe I should only pay for the level of service I receive. I have reached out to the Czech government regarding this matter and am currently awaiting a response. Additionally, the waitress exhibited a very unpleasant attitude, questioning where I was from. When I informed her I was from the UK, she made a condescending remark about my American credit card, implying that it was unusual for someone from the UK to use it. Is there a rule against British people using American cards? What was the point of asking a brit using an American card? I strongly advise busy travellers to avoid this restaurant and not expect decent service. The 12.5% service charge is presented as mandatory, which is quite frustrating, wasting money for nothing. It's only 3 quid, but better to throw money into the Vlatava River. +Add Hello, Thank you for the prompt reply. However, the waitress mentioned that the restaurant belongs to the hotel. I strongly believe that the restaurant and hotel are under the same management. Hope the management reviews this matter seriously.

Yelp
The view is amaz8nt. Had a few drinks and took dozens of pictures. Make sure to sit outside on the patio.

Yelp
Hotel is located in the heart of Old Town Prague. We stayed four days at the Hotel U Prince 2 bedroom apartment located next door. We were booked on the fifth floor and NO elevator. It was very difficult transporting luggage and items that were purchased in town. We were not told about no elevator until we arrived. Also, be aware that on the weekends the town square is extremely noisy between 2:00am-4:00am with shouting and loud taking. The positive of staying at this hotel you have a perfect view of the clock and square.

Yelp
This review is only for the restaurant. My friends and I found this place while walking around the square and it's menu display really caught our eye for its great variety of dishes. Since we didn't speak the language, and the outdoor seating spans across both the hotel, the actual restaurant, and the neighboring gelato place, there was some initial confusion as to where we needed to sit. The staff weren't that helpful with clearing this up, but a kind customer directed us properly. In general, the service in Europe differs greatly from that in the US. With this in mind, the service was quite standard. We had a lot of time to ponder over the menu before they came to take our order, since the restaurant is large and partially outdoors, the food took a while to come, but the food, view, and ambiance were all well worth it for our group. The outdoor seating has the most perfect view of the astronomical clock tower, which is what we wanted to see. By eating here, we had the best view and were able to catch the iconic chiming and mini clock show! The food was great! Please please please do yourself a favor and get one of the flavored lemonades! My personal favorite was the elderflower, which is a flavor very difficult to find back in the US. All of them were so refreshing though which, given the absence of iced water in Europe, was so so nice. We ordered a caprese and the spring rolls for appetizers. The caprese was good but the spring rolls (imo) were fantastic. I absolutely loved the sauce they had for the spring rolls, it was so refreshing! Other than this, we got different risottos and pastas which were all in the range of good to great. The only mid item out of what we ordered was the Cesar Salad, but that was almost to be expected. We ordered this mostly because we had been traveling around Europe and had eaten fried foods exclusively so some veggies were due. For dessert, we got the astronomical clock cake purely because we are tourists and took a cute picture of it next to the clock tower. I didn't eat it, but from what I could tell from my friends' reactions it was great. Overall, very satisfied with our choice to dine here. The prices were also reasonable given the opportune seating and phenomenal atmosphere (especially during sunset)

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant. The location is right in the heart of "Old Town Prague" We decided to try it despite the bad Yelp reviews... for drinks only and an appetizer. We sat in the outdoor seats. They did have heaters at the inner tables and blankets at our table. It was the end of September but the nights were chilly. I enjoyed watching everyone gather to watch the astronomical clock. The service was slow, real slow. I ended up ordering the "pork knee" since I missed out in Germany. The menu was coded with allergy info which I appreciated. The pork knee was actually really juicy and perfectly cooked. I really enjoyed eating something I can't get at home. Watch out for the receipt. Gratuity was already added and a nice large percentage at that. Would recommend if you want to sit and get a drink and watch the crowds gather around the astronomical clock. Just check your bill closely.

Yelp
The rooftop bar here has the best views of the Clock and old town square hands down. Try the aperol sprit with caution because you'll probably no longer be capable of enjoying them else where.

Sean K.

Yelp
If you read the reviews, most of the comments are about the Food. The hotel location is great but get ready to hear the British drunks screaming until 5 AM right below your room. The hotel is a combination of a Rooftop Café / Bar and the hotel. Only one elevator is available to both Non Guests & Guests so, there is absolutely No security and all the Non guests/Rooftop customers pass by your room to get to the Roof top. Remember at anytime, some intoxicated customer can knock on your room door. 5 Stars goes to reception desk and the Staff.

Milan K.

Yelp
Stayed at the hotel twice, visited the outdoor restaurant many times. It was fine ,even great sometimes. But on last occasion our party expirienced a staff behaviour which made it to my last visit there. They quickly forgot the covid situation and a normal way of service. The staff and the management are rude, unfriendly and believe they are the only place in the Old Town. It is not the fact. I tolerated it is a tourist trap;the location is great. But,go there on your own risk.I will not!

David S.

Yelp
Good wine great location, shuffle. Risotto was very good. Just a little salty Music and atmosphere is good. Owner and Chef seem to be friendly, slightly pushy, but not too bad for European city.

Julie A.

Yelp
Rude and unprofessional. There is a reason no one is there. Questions were met with rudeness and no explanations. Guess they hate tourists.

Yelp
If this review were strictly about location, Hotel U might be among the best hotels in Prague. One couldn't ask for a better spot in the heart of historic district, and a stone's throw away from most of the city's touristy activities, restaurants, and nightlife. Or perhaps, if this were simply about aesthetics, Hotel U is pimped to the nines with old world sophistication and a decadence that would make some people feel like kings + queens. Much like the city of Prague itself, the glamour pretty enough to wow even the most vain of patrons. Even the prices aren't backbreaking, which would suggest this is a pretty popular place / area to stay (which it is), especially for first timers to the city. For a property to be stacked with so many amenities (bars, restaurants, etc.), it's easy to never really want to leave the hotel or the neighborhood at all. But unfortunately, that's where the facade ends. The rooms were full of elegance, but functionally it was kind of disappointing. Water temperature and pressure were issues throughout my stay, almost to the point where it was difficult to use the facilities at all. The TV was bare bones with only a handful of channels and the bed looked comfy but was just a bit too hard for my taste. It was an unexpectedly rough stay. The service is the biggest blunder of them all. Didn't get much sympathy from the hotel front desk for my minor complaints, so I spent as much time out of the hotel as much as possible. I suppose that should always be the goal, the city of Prague is too beautiful to stay indoors anyway.

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant only. Horrible! Dishonest!! Stay away!!! I went for an early lunch on a Sunday. My first red flag should have been the fact that it was empty. Other local places had several patrons, but there wasn't a soul around here. I ordered the Truffle Risotto. It arrived... With absolutely no truffle whatsoever. It was, however, packed with mushrooms. Truffles are actually quite different from a mushroom. When my waiter finally came by to ask if I needed anything, I mentioned that the 'Truffle Risotto is lacking the first ingredient in the name... Truffle'. He gave me a puzzled look then grabbed a menu to look. He then disappeared to the kitchen. When he finally returned, he had a small cup with 3 very tiny black truffle shavings in it. He said the Chef said the truffle is in the sauce. That is a lie. Truffle has a very distinct flavor and smell. This risotto didn't even have truffle oil. When the bill arrived, he verbally told me the total, which included the recommended tip. This place is as dishonest as they come. Please, if you decide to go, check your receipt throughly and ask questions before ordering. This is a prime example of what people warned me about regarding some of the local 'tourist' restaurants in Prague.

Yelp
A tourist trap near the astronomical clock tower. Mediocre food and horrible service. Throw in higher prices than other places and this is a place we'll never go back to. One of our party ordered an item and the restaurant brought the wrong item. When we told them, the waiter starts yelling at the top of his lungs that "No! This is what you ordered!" Like it was somehow a personal affront to the waiter that he screwed up the order and was blaming it on the customer. Food was full of fat and gristle and they only had one (mediocre) beer here in the Czech Republic, which is the number one beer consumer in the world. So, stay away. You can thank me later. :-)

Shyanne B.

Yelp
I absolutely love this hotel! It has a beautiful rooftop restaurant that you can dine at or you can just grab a cocktail on the terrace, which has a beautiful view of the astronomical clock and old town Square market. In the basement they have one of the best speakeasy bars with phenomenal craft cocktails. I highly recommend this hotel!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Went here to get Christmas Eve dinner and I am not one to do this but to charge a cover charge on top of the typical price is wrong. The beer here was over a 120 crowns which is double for one I got around the corner same brand at a bar before dinner for 1/2 the price +.1 liter more. (They serve .4 and normal bars serve .5 liters.) Just because the location is good does not mean the price should be that high too. Food should have been a lot better for the price. Go to a Lokal and you get better for a fraction of the cost.

Puying M.

Yelp
Do NOT eat here. Came here for breakfast. Garbage. The avocado toast with salmon was 4 crouton-sized pieces of dried out salmon on a skewer and then this disgusting green spread on a piece of toast. It had the consistency of baby food and tasted sweet. I asked the waiter what it was he said 'avocado'. I asked what it really was and he said 'avocado paste' . The 'fruit plate' was about 4 strawberries and 8 blueberries presented prettily on a plate inserted in a bunch of chocolate mousse. Service was terrible. Overpriced.

Yelp
Ordered hot tea and dessert. Tea came first, it was good but was waiting for dessert for 30min by the time they brought it my hot tea became cold. I asked for hot tea!!! Waiter just asked me if I want to go to kitchen and tell them to hurry up with dessert...REALLY???? Manager didn't even apologized. Avoid this place!!!

Michael T.

Yelp
I would not go back. Food was OK. Nothing special or memorable but not bad. Location is also good. The service, how we, was awful. Inattentive wait service and when you finally go the attention, your simple requests (olive oil, a bottle of water, and the like) was ignored. There are many places to go to with the same mediocre food and decent location. Service can, and should be, a difference maker. Here it was but for the wrong reasons. I won't go back and would recommend looking at the other places along the same road.

Lee M.

Yelp
This place was awful on so many levels. Horrible service and mediocre at best food. If you still decide to waste your money there, watch your bill! They add a tip and then expect a tip! Deceitful! Go somewhere else!

Yelp
This review will super sad. The location where is the hotel is more then perfect and dream. Beautiful inside really beautiful but owners could spend money for little update or fix rooms. Room was nice. Tv bad with few channels but u are in Prague not for tv so i didnt care much. Bathrooms? Toilet seat cheap plastic so when u sit on your booty move all over. Bath tub some kind of hole there and the water pressure? That was a winner. If will rain i will tae shower outside and have more water. Then the main cherry on cake was the employees. Lord mercy rude rude. Not friendly at all. From open door and the girl in front desk to waiter on roof restaurant to bottom outside restaurant and king of that was man who sold some ice cream and sweets out of the hotel. Talking bad language and trash from his mouth. Only bad for him he didnt know i talk Czech so i know what he said to us and around. I told the manager about him. He said he will talk to him but i am sure he wont. I am so sad that in hotel and place like that are Czech people so rude to tourists.
google avatar

Tatiana D.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible customer Service, they have a lot to learn about how to treat their customers. Literally kicked me and my son out when we sat there at 2pm that it's a lunch time and my son couldn't finish their ice cream. They didn't ask me if we are going to eat there, just said we had to leave because he held half eaten ice cream, which he would throw away if there was a trash can available. Very disappointed.

Yelp
This is NOT a 5 star hotel, by any means. The staff are really rude, unfriendly, And unprofessional . I have never stayed in a hotel like this Before. The room is depressing , with old beds . The food is down right horrible, ordered fresh tuna , couldn't eat it! I don't know how they put together a staff like this. It reflects poorly on all of Prague!!! I have been traveling all over Europe for the last 2 weeks... This is the absolute worst !!!

Úna D.

Yelp
Stayed here 2019. Best hotel in Prague can't wait to come back. Food and service amazing
google avatar

Yelp
This hotel tell was great! It has a bed and feel almost like you are staying in a castle. The staff is wonderful and the breakfast which was included was delightful! You can not beat the location of this hotel. It is right in the center of everything!

Yelp
I am really disappointed to be writing this review. I actually loved my stay at Hotel U Prince, but the negative review is for the charges that followed and how they were handled. Particularly because it was by far the most expensive hotel we stayed at during our stay from Budapest -- Vienna -- Prague. I returned home and there was a mysterious $53 charge on my credit card. I emailed the hotel through Expedia (where I booked) to ask about the charge, and they said it was for damaged items. They claim we broke a "crystal glass" in the bathroom - which we absolutely did not do. I asked if there was a photo, but was not provided one. I called to speak to someone about this, and the woman who answered the phone, Michaela, said housekeeping does a report on the state of the room after guests leave and there was a broken glass associated with our room number. I asked if it was possible housekeeping had broken the glass and said it had already been broken to avoid a charge of their own, and she laughed. She said there was nothing she could do, which is baffling, since she is responding to comments online as "managing director." This is really disappointing after the stay we had at Hotel U Prince. It appears this hotel is not into cultivating long-term relationships with customers. Anyway, I've never had this happen to me before (because we don't break things in our room!!), but I'd advise everyone booking through this hotel to take photos of their room before checkout so they can dispute such accusations moving forward. Generally, I'd suggest looking at hotels in Mala Strana, where it is equally as beautiful as Old Town and not nearly as loud at night.

Yelp
Tough one. Perfect location, great looking room. Very, very warm. (There in September) If you have trouble sleeping unless it's 65-68 like my gf, it's not a great time. Yes, staff was "curt"-have to say that was just about everywhere in Czechia. Think of it as dining out in NYC or Paris. It's gotta be tough to deal with so many tourists speaking so many languages, being as needy as traveling people are. They gave me a bottle of Prosecco for my birthday, though, so there is hospitality there! Would we stay there again? Absolutely--just not in Summer.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Ordered a rib eye steak. Got a plate with 4x2.5" pieces green asparagus wrapped in bacon and half a potato with sour cream. We also ordered water and didn't even get a chilled bottle. For such high prices I'd have expected more. This place is a joke. The only reason why they get so much business is due to their location.

Tim G.

Yelp
The rooftop bar service is slow. View is ok. There are better roof top bars in Prague that make you feel welcome. The receptionists make a big deal about weather you have a reservation or not. When you get to the rooftop bar it is more than half empty. The ladies at the reception turn folks away when there are plenty of tables. What kind of business model is this? I recommend you go somewhere else and not put up with the poor employee attitudes.

Juliann P.

Yelp
Went to the rooftop terrace today and first of all, we emailed about a reservation and they never emailed back, but when we went to check to see if they had room, the receptionist said we had the reservation. Anyways, the food ended up being subpar and the waitress was rude and swindled 600 czk out of my group.

Quincy B.

Yelp
Waitress stole 598 koruna from our table by tricking us and counting the money in front of us but she was pulling money from her waitress belt too. She kept telling us we didn't have enough money still and was very snappy. The service was awful and slow. Nobody up there was very nice. Would not recommend going here ever. My main dish also had 2 pieces of pasta and 1 Brussel sprout cut in half. Not happy with anything here.

Mandy W.

Yelp
One of the worst restaurants I have ever been. I ordered risotto and it tasted horrible. The service is extremely slow.
google avatar

Jc G.

Yelp
Truly disappointed in the staff. We have a wonderful 2 story suite, yet the staff couldn't figure out if I met the "dress code" to go to the bar. I stayed at the Hotel Grand Bohemia for two days prior to this (before going to, and coming back from, Vienna), and I can attest that it's a far better hotel than this. You are treated better, and the rooms are more elegant.
google avatar

Andy H.

Yelp
I stayed here a few years back. The location is great, right across from the astrological clock. The rooms were very comfortable and good size. The price was reasonable. You had to hike up a couple of flights of stairs to get to the lobby. They had a breakfast buffet included in the price of the stay I purchased. The buffet was good. Lots of breads and cheeses. They also had a TV in the dining room with MTV on every morning. The music wasn't too loud and it was a nice break from news. The staff were just OK, and not too helpful. The only thing they seemed helpful with was getting you to use their car service, which was not cheap. I also ate on the roof at the restaurant there. The food was OK. The view was fabulous. The service was lacking. Considering the total package it was a good value for your money.

Yelp
All reviews I've seen about this hotel are for the restaurants and or bars. This review is actually for the hotel which the search results show. First of all this is rated as a 5 star. Its not. But I'd say it should receive a solid 3.5 star rating if they gave half points. Rooms are clean, linens are crisp. Toiletries they supply were pretty good actually. We kept a few. Staff is... okay. Some give you the typical Czech down the nose, "we're mafia, your weak" looks and some are genuinely people oriented. To be fair, I found the mafia feeling throughout the city. All these lurking small groups of men. Behind counters, four feet from booths, randomly walking in from the street in twos and three and going into back rooms. Weird. Anyway.... Management should spend a little more time grooming some of the staff. The rooms themselves are unique and full of newish furniture, very high ceilings, views of the square, and multiple levels. Our room actually had two floors with the king bed upstairs. Stomping from upstairs guests was easily heard so I recommend getting the highest floor if you are particular about that sort of thing. I would stay here again if they keep their prices fair.

Condo D.

Yelp
I stayed with my two teen grandkids (14 and 19) at the U Prince in late July, 2017 and was very pleased.. The employees were gracious, and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate us with good service and big smiles. Breakfast was fabulous. We ate on the rooftop one evening and enjoyed it. The rooms are medieval looking, but that's just what we expected and enjoyed about Prague. We had suite 23 with a beautiful balcony overlooking the Old Town Square, and they gave us a nice rollaway for my grandson who is 14. The bathroom was modern and excellent, and we loved having the extra half bath. Yes, the restaurant food is a bit pricey, but so is everything in this location. If you want inexpensive restaurants, leave the Old Town Square and walk to the charming back streets. The only thing I might change is the elevator, because it is packed all the time for people to go up to the rooftop restaurant, but this is an older building. There is tremendous value for money in this delightful hotel. Experienced travelers will be right at home here and love the location!

Yelp
Do not go to the Hotel U Prince Restaurant! The waiters are unfriendly, the "Norwegian salmon" is actually salmon trout, the prices on the menu are without VAT (they only tell you that later, if you enquire about the weirdly high amount on the check) and they charge automatically the amount they find suitable for tips (can also only be seen after you get the check)! You have been warned!
