Updated after second visit: Manager took my bank details (account number, routing number, Swift code) and is keeping them! Extremely unprofessional! Do not stay here! Read my review. Our bathroom flooded up through the drain in the middle of the bathroom. The bath drain water, plus other water, came up. It was smelly and absolutely disgusting. It took management 5 hours to get us to a different room. Staff were more flippant than apologetic. I am 77 and my wife is 69. Huge inconvenience to us. They never attempted to compensate us, not even the slightest. I brought it up at checkout and spoke with the manager (middle aged, tall, tan, blonde hair, blue eyes female) and explained how I clearly expect to be compensated. She said they would refund me one full night to my bank account. She took down my bank details and email address. One month later, I never received a wire to my bank and have not received a single email from them. Who knows what that manager is doing with my bank details!! Super sketchy!! This management is a disgrace to the hotel. It is extremely dated and they clearly want to cut corners on quality. Tons of potential, but it definitely misses the mark. Second time I stayed here (first stay was decent, attempted to let them redeem themselves). I will never stay here again. Look for somewhere else with great views.

My husband and I stayed here in August 2023 for our honeymoon. Amenities and location are fabulous. Loved the food. Rooms are dated and traditional but that’s fine and what we expected. We are going back this week and hope to have a better stay. However, service needs to be improved. I included notes in our reservation booking that this was for our honeymoon and mentioned it upon arrival. Not one single hotel worker was just a happy honeymoon the entire day. Every other hotel on our honeymoon trip gave us a sweet note with chocolate or some sort of small token of celebration in our room. This hotel never even acknowledged it. Not what a guest should expect from a hotel of this quality. Additionally, there was no shampoo, hair conditioner, body wash, lotion, or soap in our room. I asked the front desk for it and it took them 15 minutes to find any. They never found skin lotion or hair conditioner. How does a hotel of this quality in a place that gets as cold as Norway not have hair conditioner, but especially, skin lotion?

A major note: some of the rooms are renovated others aren’t. I booked a Superior Twin Mountain View room. It is very dated and the view is mostly of the street/parking lot, it doesn’t look like the photos on the website. I asked at the front desk if there was a nicer room they could move me to and they had an updated fjord view room, but only for one of three nights. The updated fjord view room was wonderful so pay the extra for the fjord view or call to make sure You can get an updated room. Otherwise, you could end up with a room that seems like it’s from a budget hotel even though the rest of this hotel is pretty luxurious. Otherwise, the staff has been great. The pool and lobby are gorgeous. The food is good. Breakfast was your standard European breakfast buffet. Dinner buffet wasn’t the best and I felt it was over priced given the quality, but it’s really the only place to eat in the area.

The interior is dated, but classy. The spa area is nice. The food is fine and service good. The best thing about the hotel is the surroundings and picturesque fjord and mountains in the backyard.

We stayed here in August in a superior king fjord view room—and it was spectacular. Lofthus is one of the best places to explore Southern Norway (central and beautiful location, smaller crowds, great access to all things outdoors) and Ullensvang is *the* best place to stay here. The rooms are beautiful and clean; the expedition options from the hotel are varied and expertly run; and the food is top notch. If we come back to Southern Norway, we’d skip Flam, Balestrand, and the rest and only stay here.

Overall, our stay at Ullensvangs Hotel was satisfactory, though there are a few areas where improvements could enhance the guest experience. The hotel itself was fine, providing a comfortable environment and beautiful surroundings. However, the dinner service did not quite meet our expectations, particularly considering the price. We felt it was not worth the cost. There are a few suggestions for the hotel that could make a big difference: Slip Mats in the Spa: The spa area can be quite slippery, making it potentially dangerous. Slip mats would be a great addition to improve safety. Umbrellas for the Front Area: During our stay, it was raining but still warm at around 20 degrees. The balcony became quite crowded in the morning, so having a few umbrellas outside would help guests enjoy the outdoor space even in wet weather. More Greens on the Buffet: The buffet could benefit from a wider variety of greens to cater to guests who prefer lighter or healthier options. Coffee Station: The coffee station is positioned too low, which can be dangerous, especially for children. Raising it would be a simple yet effective improvement. On a positive note, the service provided by some of the staff was exceptional. Damian and a young lady who welcomed us to dinner were particularly attentive and friendly. Additionally, the bartender from Slovakia who served us in the evening was fantastic and made our stay more enjoyable. In summary, Ullensvangs Hotel offers a decent stay with beautiful surroundings, but there are some areas for improvement, especially regarding safety and dining experience.

I can honestly say I have never been to a hotel like this before. The grounds and pool area are fantastic. The view of the fjord is amazing. The breakfast buffet was good. Our room 200 level was not great- smelled musty, overlooked a parking lot and bunk beds were unsafe. There are so many weird areas of this hotel - part of it reminded me of a cruise ship.

Fabulous location. The only disappointment was that our 'Superior Room' did not have a fjord view and overlooked the main road and the local primary school - where the school bell woke me up at 8am on our first morning! Fabulous spa - I have never been in a sauna with such a stunning view! Great vegetarian meal choices and organising a trip to one of the local cider farms for residents is a nice little touch.

If you are traveling and jet-lagged and need some coffee early in the morning, don't expect to find any here.  It is not available in your room and not available in the lobby and not available anywhere nearby.  You'll have wait until 7:00 AM when the restaurant opens.  That being said, everything else about the hotel is perfection: the room, the interior decor, the Fjord views, the service, the food- perfection.   You'll enjoy your stay here.  Just be sure to sleep in late if you like coffee. (If you're not a coffee drinker, they will bring you hot chocolate @ your table for your to-go container, and you'll be happy as a clam!) Oh, there is one tiny negative: the toilet paper, you'll come nose to nose!
