I rarely write negative reviews, but this hotel was a major disappointment and the worst hospitality experience I’ve ever had. I feel obligated to warn others.
I chose this hotel for Christmas and my birthday—our first visit to Amsterdam—because the photos and overall vibe looked chic and stylish. What we encountered was the complete opposite. The room looked nothing like the pictures: no style, a completely different design, and extremely small. There was barely space for luggage, and it was impossible for two people to move comfortably at the same time.
The most unacceptable issue was the curtains. They were black, broken, and could not be opened at all. Despite paying extra for a street-view room, we had no view whatsoever and felt like we were staying in a basement. When I reported this, the staff admitted they were already aware of the problem but said it couldn’t be fixed during Christmas. Knowing this, they still sold the room. This is simply not acceptable. Even worse, the staff member was dismissive, rolled his eyes, and made us feel as if we were overreacting.
We were told we might be moved to another room or hotel the next day, but there was absolutely no follow-up. Over three days, no one checked back with us, no solution was offered, and nothing was fixed. A sincere apology, a small gesture, or any effort to compensate would have shown basic hospitality—but there was none. For a hotel to show this level of indifference, especially during Christmas, is extremely disappointing.
As if that wasn’t enough, we were given bedding suitable for one person on a queen bed. The room was cold, and I was freezing. When I mentioned this the next morning, I was handed extra bedding and asked to make the bed myself. Later that day, housekeeping removed our towels and failed to replace them. When we returned to the hotel late at night, there were no towels in the room at all.
Ironically, at checkout, a new staff member finally listened, apologized sincerely, and took notes. This was the kind of response we expected from the beginning—but unfortunately, it came far too late.
Problems can happen, even during the holidays. What cannot be excused is the complete lack of care, accountability, and effort to resolve them. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels, and I have never experienced such poor treatment or disregard for guests.
My intention is not to be malicious or unfair. However, paying for a service and not receiving what was promised—especially during a special occasion—is truly upsetting. I sincerely hope no one else has a similar experience and that the hotel takes this feedback seriously and improves.
