Our group spent a fantastic time in this hotel, the rooms were comfortable with hot water, the food was fantastic, and the location is as quiet as possible while still near to many interesting sights of Kathmandu. The hotel also has a large theatre room for various activities, where we were lucky to see a nice concert and traditional dancing of Nepal. Last but not least, the service was very kind, and always helpful.

We loved this hotel so much we kept coming back each time we stopped over in Kathmandu! It's such a beautiful characteristic building and an oasis of a garden while being right near the centre of Kathmandu. The restaurant is very relaxing. The staff were also lovely

I stayed a few days at Hotel Varja. The hotel's exterior is nice and the people working there are nice. It's located a bit outside Thamel but still walkable with the traffic dodging. However, the interior of the hotel is dated and dirty. I had a lot of hair on my bath mat and had to request for a clean one. The food there are just so so but overpriced. The room is overpriced as well and does not include breakfast which is also overpriced. I would stay away from here until they fix up and clean the rooms properly. It's got a lot of potential but right now, it's just a run-down overpriced hotel.

Great stay. A little pricy for Kathmandu but clean and down to earth. I liked it!

Oldfashioned hotel at a unique location: just beyond the noise and hassle of the city, across the river, on the way to Swyambhunat. Beautiful architecture with traditional Newari woodwork, splendid garden with much green and space to sit quietly and ample parking space. This is a real attraction in a city which has so little green and peace! Rooms are rather basic; even the 'deluxe rooms" have no TV, no safe, no AC, no refrigerator, basic lighting. Cleaning is done well (except on saturday). The restaurant is basic as well: breakfast buffet is all right, menu otherwise very limited, certainly compared with the range available in many other restaurants. Staff are very relaxed though pleasant, but have limited knowledge e.g. on taxi rates, destinations, shops, flights - and little desire to expand their knowledge or services. In all: an excellent place in terms of atmosphere, peace and greenery but at relatively high prices and modest services.

Beautiful, peaceful, historical hotel with very kind and accommodating staff. Hasta (the manager) is wonderful. We would love to return.

A beautiful old hotel with a large wonderful garden. The atmosphere at the hotel is very restful, and the rooms are large and comfortable.

Very decent and relaxed hotel with an authentic design and nice & helpful staff. Also just a short walking trip from Tamel, so that it is a quiet time-out from the buzzing tourism center of Kathmandu.
