Hotel Vale do Côa is located in the centre of Vila Nova de Foz Côa. The hotel was built in 2001 and offers 32 rooms over 3 floors. Furnishings and decoration provide an outdated atmosphere. Service is friendly but don’t expect much English.||We had an adequate room with a large balcony with table (no chairs), good twin-beds, wardrobe & safe, TV, and small bathroom with washbasin, toilet & shower. All was clean. At floor 4 an OK buffet breakfast is served: scrambled eggs, cold cuts & cheese, bread & toast, cereals & fruit, milk & yoghurt, juices & very good homemade preserves, fresh rolls & croissants, tea & coffee.||Vale do Côa is an adequate, quiet hotel, and we had a good sleep.

I can't recommend the hotel but the location is quite handy. We arrived by bus, which stopped just a five minute walk away and the tourist information center is also close. We took a taxi for about 6 euro to see the prehistoric art and museum and then we left by train, which cost about 8 euro by taxi.||||We paid 60 euro a night for this hotel, which is actually on the high end of what we paid in Portugal, as we always stay in budget friendly places. The value for the stay was not great---the room is basic and clean, but they seem to do the bare minimum to make the room pleasant. We stayed two nights but our room was not cleaned the second day and since there was only one trash can our trash was overflowing. The bed was not comfortable. The shower was hot with plenty of water pressure but if you used the water at full volume water would not drain properly. Breakfast was good with a fresh pastry, scrambled eggs and quality coffee. ||||The worst part of the hotel is the staff. The woman who checked us in at night was downright surly. The day staff was more helpful but gave the impression that we were bothering them when we asked questions. The main occupation of the staff was watching television. When we left in the morning, about 6:45 am, the lobby was completely dark and we could hardly find ourselves to the door. It turned out there was a man sleeping on the couch and we accidently woke him up and he unlocked the door. Foz Coa is a lovely town with amazing rock art and deserves a better hotel.

This is quite a basic hotel but perfectly alright for a short stay if in this area. The service was fine but they only serve breakfast. The room was clean and fine for us. Nothing fancy and a little bit basic for the price. Breakfast was a normal Continental style and perfectly adequate. The town is not really a tourist area at all and there is little going on in the centre. We did find a simple and friendly restaurant.

Clean, rooms with bath. But outmoded and far to expensive compared with other hotels in the general area. The lighting in our room was horrible, high-powered searchlights above the bed and a dito on the wall shining straight in your eyes. No fridge in the room. The walls are not exactly soundproof, we heard the neighbours talking and laughing until three in the night, and after that snoring. Breakfast was ... simple with warmed up coffee in a thermos jug. horror.

This is a nice, small hotel. The interior is quite modern, very clean, above what we have expected in a small town. The staff speaks little bit of French and English. They were very helpful, I would stay at this hotel again, without reservations. It is a short drive from the archaeological site, which is an advantage, as this is a mountainous area and any distance means quite a bit of driving time. There is also a tourist information office in the town, not far from the hotel. There are numerous small restaurants near by.||The best way to make a reservation is to send them an e-mail and one of the English speaking staff will get back to you in a couple of days. The price was very affordable and there is free parking.

Where to start? Not a good place to stay unless your desperate! Bed was soft and saggy, air con didn’t work, several light bulbs gone and the shower head was broken. There is no restaurant open in this hotel and they wouldn’t help us find one. They had little English but as I found out when we went out with our room key, perfect French!

We were well off the beaten path, and concerned about the scarcity of TA listings anywhere close. Literally drove past this hotel, and decided to check it out.|Rated 2 stars, it was clean, inexpensive, and the staff was incredibly helpful.|Price included a great breakfast.|

We stayed at this hotel because we had toured the prehistoric art in Coa Valley late in the day. There isn't much available in Vila Nova de Foz so we settled for this hotel. They do not accept credit cards - cash only, but there is an atm next door. Breakfast was awful. Only 55 euro. About what it was worth.
