When you think about a hotel close to Cape Town International Airport, you immediately have an idea of what you think it’s going to be like, but Hotel Verde is definitely far from what your expectations are. ||The security entrance always provided a guard at the gate who was diligent in not letting any cars through before doing all the correct security checks. Regardless of whether you were checking-in for the first time or returning from a shuttle/airport drop-off, the security would always double check to ensure you were officially allowed onto hotel property. |The underground car park was plentiful and easy to get in and out of, however with the energy-saving sensor lights, we found that we were in the dark more often due to the sensors not picking us up correctly. ||Once you enter the reception area, you are blown away with vibrant oranges, greens, purples, décor and most importantly, a very welcoming reception desk. The check-in was quick and locating the room was a pleasure due to the artwork shown along the way. ||The rooms were very clean and exactly the perfect size, if not slightly bigger, for two people to enjoy for a couple of nights. They have the keycard option whereby once the card is placed in the slot at the entry of the room door, the room lights are activated, and you can adjust any further settings from that point. ||Housekeeping was always competent, room service was excellent, the water was complimentary and refillable, the fridge is a good size for small drinks/snacks and was stocked with fresh milk. The lighting of the room was bright and easily accessible from the bed, allowing you to switch any light on or off without ever needing to leave the bed. ||The entertainment found on the TV was excellent with incredible quality – which is rarely found in hotels or guesthouses. The channel options were vast, without you needing to sign-in/log-in to any online channels to connect to media entertainment. You have a personalized layout on the screen and are able to access and track your flight information for any updates. ||REGARDING DINNER:|We found the restaurant to be clean and though it was filled with many active talking guests, the sound did not distract from our conversation at the table. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the decoration gives the feel of an open-plan restaurant. ||The menu is well-priced and affordable compared to other local restaurants/hotels in the area. ||I would TAKE NOTE that the wait for food is long and there are not many Servers available on the floor. What we thought would be a “quick meal” ended up being a couple of hours. |The Servers are the one complaint as they are not friendly, approachable, cut us off to get the order into the kitchen at a rush and then, provided the food in a ‘laxy-dazy’ fashion. They did not check on us once and took their time in clearing the plates. ||We do NOT RECOMMEND that you order the steaks on the menu, as the steaks are so tough we could not cut through them and they do not have steak knives, but only regular knives that don’t cut through. Other dishes were well presented and lovely.||REGARDING BREAKFAST: |We would definitely recommend this as an add-on should you have time to enjoy this, as it is well worth the money. The variations you can select from were vast, fresh, and well supplied. ||Again – the only complaint is the Servers as they weren’t friendly in greeting guests, seating them or when we requested new cutlery so we could go from a cold breakfast into our warm breakfast, this was never supplied to us, and we found we had to keep taking cutlery off other tables.||All in all, the check-out was again quick and friendly, and definitely a hotel we would recommend to anyone who needs a night or two close to the airport. They have a shuttle service that ran efficiently every half-an-hour and for the smokers a dedicated smoking room, which was under cover and secure.
