This is not the Carlton, but it doesn’t pretend to be. Hotel Verlaine feels a bit like classic south-of-France: gate opens, you roll in with the car, reception on one side, your room somewhere on the other. Rooms are decent, equipment decent - everything just about decent. It’s small, yes, but has that personal touch that saves it from being forgettable. Price is still fair, even in the Cannes high season. For a night or two, it’s a good choice… just don’t expect fireworks.
