Hotel Villa Bahia

Great location, close to the heart of the Pelourinho district - bustling and lively by day, but quiet and peaceful at night. The colonial-era buildings that comprise the hotel are beautiful, and the hotel has done a brilliant job of preserving many of the original features. The common parts are great - breakfast (very good) is taken in a lovely room with ferns and a small water feature, and there are attractive rooms to relax in, including a bar and a small roof terrace. Our room (Calicute) was spacious and tastefully furnished. Every single member of the staff we met were very friendly, welcoming and incredibly helpful, adding so much to an enjoyable stay - I really can’t remember having better service at a hotel of that size. Also deserving special mention is the wonderful Roberto, the hotel’s favoured taxi driver - an absolute star. Vila Bahia is a great place and provides a great experience. Very highly recommended.

The hotel is situated in the very centre of the old town. The rooms are very stylish with antique interior but are lacking some of modern days qualities. Unfortunately not all the doors and windows close perfectly thus letting all the insects into the room. There are also some small holes in the wall without any possibility to close them and not covered by mosquito nets so that all the insects are invited to come in.||Music at night in the neighbourhood is very loud so without ear plugs sleeping before midnight is impossible.

Very cute centuries-old in on a nice square in the center of historical center of Salvador Nice breakfast, great location, mostly friendly staff, very overpriced though and note that they advertise an indoor pool but it’s tiny and claustrophobic and I don’t think you’d want to swim in it.

Wonderful location. Very nice, comfortable rooms. Tasty homemade breakfast. I loved the experience and felt very safe.

Villa Bahia is a charming 17th century villa and stepping into this hotel is like stepping back in time, 100% in keeping with the UNESCO heritage site it sits in. |The hotel looks to have had a light upgrade from the photos on trip advisor and now much more in keeping with the style of the original villa. We loved our stay staying in Madagascar room ( all rooms are named not numbered). This room opens to the front of the hotel with views onto the cobbled street. ||Locally there are a few nice options for restaurants and bars most very touristy but just round the corner was a fantastic local bar. Very basic but live music and wonderful staff. ||The staff at the hotel were all friendly and this was bar far our favourite hotel of our trip to Brazil.

What a wonderful hotel! It’s quite simply beautiful! Although extremely comfortable, there’s an authenticity to the property that more “luxurious” and more expensive nearby hotels lack.|I was especially fortunate in that I was given what I understand was the best room in the property, but I was told that all rooms will be updated. The room was spacious, the bed incredibly comfortable and the shower huge. The front-facing view onto the square and church and convent was amazing. The pool is tiny, but fine if no one else is using it. Breakfast was excellent. |The staff were all superb. All my contacts – such as the lovely women who serve breakfast and prepare the guest rooms and the helpful accounts manager were tremendous. I would especially praise Javier at the reception. Apart from being extremely interesting, was cheerful, efficient and provided useful information about the hotel and Salvador.|The one problem is that of local dining possibilities. The area is very quiet at night and getting to good restaurants involves either a somewhat uneasy walk or a taxi/Uber ride.

This is a lovely boutique hotel. The interiors are beautifully decorated and authentic. The room was lovely, large comfortable bed and a spacious terrace overlooking the city with chairs and a hamac. Very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious, very good coffee. The staff were so lovely and welcoming in all areas. Our flight was in the evening and they kindly accommodated a late check out. The location is great, close to main attractions, however I wouldn’t recommend eating in the restaurants close to the hotel but take an Uber to other locations like Carmo. I will definitely comeback to Villa Bahia and recommend the hotel to friends visiting.

It just doesn’t get better than this if you’re looking for an authentic place to stay in the heart of the old town. The staff are magnificent, the hotel is beautifully laid out and the ambience is delightful. We had a very comfortable bed and plenty of space for relaxing during the day (aside from two external terraces and a plunge pool). |Breakfast is superb and we had drinks at the bar which were excellent.

This incredibly charming boutique hotel is located inside 2 adjacent mansions dating to the 17th and 18th Centuries, remnants of the Portuguese era. The hotel has 17 rooms, and our room (and all the rooms in the front of the hotel) overlooks the plaza and the Baroque Church of São Francisco (rebuilt in 1686). Each room is named for a place colonized by the Portuguese. The rooms and the whole hotel are renovated to preserve their original spirit. Our room (Mozambique) was very large with a queen-sized bed, 10-foot high ceilings and a large shower. The bed and the linens on it were very comfortable. The hotel has several courtyards, indoor seating areas and a plunge pool. Breakfast, which is included, was very good. This hotel is very reasonable for the quality it offers and is very close to perfect. The location is excellent if you are planning to explore the old part of the city of Salvador--almost everything is within walking distance. The hotel's owner, Bruno Guinard is a Frenchman who has lived in Bahia for over 30 years. The hotel employees are all very helpful and friendly (they also speak English).

WARNING! I travel a lot in developing areas and carry a CO detector. NEVER has it ever alarmed besides in the Cochin room at this hotel. It was reading 45ppm in the middle of the night. I opened all the windows and it dropped to 21ppm. Beware. The owners did not seem concerned when I checked out early and did not refund me for the remaining days. I have photos of the detector that I took after opening windows (21ppm) and then again when I went back to the room to prove to the owners that there was Carbon Monoxide in the room (24ppm). I actually have video as well to put the detector in context with the room but I am uploading pics here. I did a test of the detector outside the hotel just to be sure and it was showing zero. I would NOT stay in this hotel it could be a danger to your life.
