This is a boutique hotel, located on Playa la Ropa, which is an absolutely stunning beach- especially the sunset here is spectacular to behold. The rooms were adequate, clean, and comfortable. There is a restaurant with full service bar on site, with very reasonable prices. The service and food at both restaurant and bar were very friendly and we did eat both breakfast and lunch there for a couple of days. Brush up on your Spanish, because the staff speak Spanish, and we had some language challenges, but it was well worth it. I plan on returning soon for a ladies trip.

We found this online and hoped it was as good as the pictures, it is! We booked just a couple nights and thought we would look around the area to see what else was interesting in person. We do this commonly and move to the place that suits us best. Well we ended up staying our whole vacation here! And we did go and visit probably 10 other properties to confirm. There are other great options out there, but none that checked our boxes quite like Hotel Villa Mexicana! Their sister hotel, Irma was tempting, it has great views, but not on the beach. We had 2 rooms, first on the lower level, truly about 100 ft to the waves and right at the pool amazing. Then we went to the second floor, I personally like the views and a little more privacy on the 2nd floor. Rooms are on the small side, but super clean and housekeeping was excellent. I like to have a refrigerator and they don't have that in the room. We had a great shower and always hot water, took a little time for it to get hot, but always got hot. We had a car and parking was indeed free and right across the street. Staff as well as guests were all positive and helpful. Zihua has been one of our favorite places and this hotel as well. We travel quite a bit, so I think that says a lot. In our opinion Way better than the craziness of Cancun.

A big thank you to Ruben at the reception desk! We looked at several hotels in Zihuatenejo trying to find the perfect stay for 3-4 weeks. We talked to Ruben at the reception desk and because he was so friendly, helpful, and professional we decided that this is where we want to stay. This is a beautiful hotel, our room faces the ocean, the staff are very hard-working and friendly. Because of the great encounter we had at the front desk with Ruben, we are here! Many thanks!

We arrived on Saturday and had perfect weather all week. The Hotel was clean and quiet. Rooms had been upgraded since our last time there. Very Comfortable. La Ropa Beach was clean and the water temperture was great for swimming. We went into the Centro every night for a great dinner. All in All a wonderful trip and we will go back next year-2025.

Must be our 8th stay here. |This year it had some upgrades: all new lounges at the beach, the bathroom shower now has a grab bar (I hope someone wasn’t gravely injured in a fall), and the bathroom door now has room to open and close over the bathmat. Either the door was shaved, or the bath mats are thinner. |Also, this year the towel set included face towels AND wash cloths, maybe a first we’ve seen in a modest Mexican hotel. |The staff is always friendly, and the rooms are cleaned every day. |The restaurant has nice food, especially the breakfast. However, this year the cute mexican plates have been replaced by dull white ones. |The drinks are not great. By the pool they are served in very small plastic cups, maybe 10oz? |The margaritas are made with the Royal, seedless limones, not the traditional, smaller key lime, and the taste is not authentic. But I’m a premiere margarita maker, so maybe others wouldn’t notice. |All in all, this hotel is still our favorite on Playa La Ropa.

This beautiful little place is starting to feel like our home away from home! Perfectly located on the beautiful and swimmable La Ropa beach ! Every room is just steps away from the sand! The food at this hotel is absolutely amazing! We always get breakfast included, and it is served until noon! Service is great too! Everyone throughout the resort works very very hard to make your stay wonderful. The rooms are spacious and spotless and the beds are very comfortable. The AC works great and the shower always has hot water. You can walk either direction down the beach and find other great places to eat and drink, and even see live music! We especially like El Manglar and Mary’s. We took a day trip to Ixtapa, a very reasonable taxi, ride to the dock, where you can take a little boat to Ixtapa Island, and snorkel! It is amazing! Everyone is so nice here! Thank you to everyone for making us feel welcome!

Yelp
I truly had the best stay here. The restaurant and hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The property is beautiful and right on the beach. I cannot wait to return. The attached restaurant is Doña Prudencia. We had breakfast and lunch here daily. The service staff was truly exceptional. Many of the guests have been coming here for ~20 years because of the staff, which means many of the staff members have been there for a long time. We never had a bad meal. The coffee was good and strong! The omelette talavera was my favorite egg dish. We loved sharing the fruit plate with yogurt and granola too. The hotel has three pools. There is one with an infinity edge beach side. There are two more that are between buildings, one of them is a shallow children's pool. They have little pools of water to clean the sand off of your feet and an outdoor shower to help clean the salt off after getting in the ocean. The water was perfect in the ocean and the pool. The ocean was clean and you could walk out pretty far before it got deep. Zihuatenejo is considered a fishing village, so you'll see some fisherman and can rent a boat very cheaply! All the typical beach activities are available here. There is a man named Javier at the front desk of the hotel who was instrumental in helping me to retrieve my phone which I left in the cab that dropped me off. He told me he'd take care of finding it and he did. I am so grateful for his customer service skills and willingness to help. I have never been to Mexico so I was nervous, but now I cannot wait to return. Zihuatenejo is such a special place and Villa Mexicana was perfection. The beach is small and this hotel is in the center of it. There are incredible restaurants within walking distance or a short cab ride. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. If you do wish to visit, please be sure to call their reservation phone line instead of booking online as they stated their website had been hacked. Also, pro tip: avoid flying through Mexico City for a much better customs experience.

Yelp
I just got Back from a trip to ZIH and found Villa Mexicana "just ok". The location was very convenient along the beach for restaurants (don't bother eating at the hotel) and an easy walk to other locations. The hotel staff was pleasant, but not exactly helpful. Upon checkin I was given zero information on my drink and breakfast package, info about COVID testing, restaurant info, etc. I ended up getting the majority of my questions answered by other guests. The rooms were adequate, but not "nice". Our shower was always cold (thank goodness it was hot enough weather that cold showers were ok), the bed was pretty uncomfortable and the pillows were awful. That being said, if your priority is outdoors and saving some money, this is an adequate route to go. I would recommend walking over to La Perla for lunch or dinner, right along the beach. I also did not get any noseeum bites on this beach, while I got a ton on a different beach.

Yelp
Our stay was really enjoyable. Clean rooms; go for the bay view if you can, it's really nice and you catch great sunsets. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are a good size. Bathrooms are clean and you are provided the basic shampoo and bath soaps. Breakfast is a good offering that goes through 12 noon, which is nice if you want to sleep in. Beach front is fantastic. Beach is not crowded in front of the hotel. There are motor sports nearby if you want to take advantage. The few beach vendors do not harass. They will stop if you want to look and move along if you don't. There are several restaurants accessible by beach. In the morning you will see a lot of joggers. Staff is really nice and attentive. You will need to remind yourself that you are in a small beach/fishing village that takes life at a slower pace which is exactly why we were there. Relax, take your time and enjoy the pace. It's wonderful.

Yelp
Location - that's the best part of this local hotel. You can head straight out to the beach (no stairs either like most of the other places in this town) and body surf to your delight. The hotel is right on Playa Ropa and it's a great swimming beach. Folks come here just for that. You can also walk the beach on both sides and find all sorts of local places to get yourself a margarita as well as mexican dishes, not to mention lots of shrimp!!! Mmmmm.. They've got 3 pools though only the first one next to the ocean is ever used. We just stayed in the ocean. Being from the Pacific NW it's a real treat to swim in the warm part of the Pacific. The room is sparse, medium sized. It does have a/c, hot water, maid service, and even tv. It was good enough since we just crashed there for siesta time and for sleep. Speaking of, the beds are very hard.. If we were given a choice between hard beds and lumpy though we would prefer the hard bed. It does catch up with you but if you drink enough margaritas, go swimming, walking all over, you'll just sleep like a baby so the bed won't matter so much to you. They have free wifi but it's not in your room. It's nearby however as this hotel is small. You can walk into town from here as well which we did do a few times. It's about a 15 minute walk and part of it is on the beach. The price is very reasonable for what you get and don't get and we prefer supporting this town locally as much as possible vs. the AIs that are over in La-Dee-Da Ixtapa. This area is pretty poor and we worked hard to support the hard working folks that live here. Finally, this time of year the area is struck by lots of lightning and thunder and downpours in-between. It was wonderful to watch the fireworks off the ocean at night from a nice spot in their little restaurant with my margarita.

Yelp
Smells galore. Mediocre at best. Like a giant fraternity house. Modelo in a can was good.

Yelp
The good: Directly on a nice beach, ok breakfast, walking distance to several other restaurants, good pool, clean room, reasonably comfortable bed (but pretty firm as is typical in MX), good hot water and pressure in the shower, big private covered patio with your room overlooking the beach if you opt for beachfront, cab stand just up the block (50 pesos into Zihuat Centro), small convenience store next door. Friendly staff. Family vibe to the place. Cheap for beachfront accommodations. Viceroy Hotel also next door if you want a fancier restaurant at US hotel prices. The not so good: Internet generally very slow and very unreliable. If you're trying to pull off the work/play combo with your laptop like I was you will not be doing it here. there is an internet café roughly 2 blocks from the hotel. Beach: Depending on the day, there may be a lot of motorized water sports right off the beach, meaning constant boat (parasailing) and jet ski noise all day long. Beach can be crowded depending on the time of year you are there. The remote control for the split system ac is secured in an almost-airtight thick plastic box on the wall, meaning that what you set it on and what you get are going to be different. Bring a small Phillips if you want a functional AC controller bedside. ; )

Yelp
I've been here 3 times and found the food quite good. However this establishment seems to fail on customer service compared to the many other options nearby. Excessive wait just for a menu, waiting in queue for buffet only to be turned away once I was in front. May try again, but not anytime soon.

Yelp
Ate breakfast at the restaurant. Food was very good but service was poor. Took forever to get coffee which is inexcusable in my opinion. Restaurant was busy but under staffed. Nice view of beach and water. Prices reasonable but not cheap.
