"Part of Derby Hotels Collection, this luxe operation owes much of its museum atmosphere to the well-traveled owner. Throughout the public areas, guests will find an impressive collection of art and antiquities. Ancient Roman sculptures and mosaics in one corner, Apulian vases in another. You won’t be faulted for spending an hour perusing the hallways of this “museum” hotel. Hotel Villa Real

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? The compact and hushed lobby brims with Old World elegance, but the glass jars of candy and snacks add a playful touch of real-world charm. What's the backstory?Part of Derby Hotels Collection, this luxe operation owes much of its museum atmosphere to the well-traveled owner. Throughout the public areas, guests will find an impressive collection of art and antiquities. Ancient Roman sculptures and mosaics in one corner, Apulian vases in another. You won’t be faulted for spending an hour perusing the hallways of this “museum” hotel. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book?My Superior room featured a split-level living area with plush leather sofa and small balcony overlooking the Congreso de los Diputados (similar to Congress) and the Prado in the distance. Body-sized pillows and a cushy duvet atop the bed were basically dream machines. Requesting a room facing the front of the hotel assures plenty of entertainment from the window. Soundproofing, still, was excellent. Toiletries from The White Company complemented the massive terry cloth towels well. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-fi is both fast and free. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?The bar is popular with local business people, especially in summer when the outdoor patio is open. Andy Warhol and other prints line the wall. Light bites satisfy those wanting a snack, but those looking for gourmet fare are better off at sibling Hotel Urban around the corner where both CEBO and Glass Mar serve Michelin-quality meals. Call ahead as both are favorites of locals. Don’t miss breakfast here where Spanish cheeses, cured meats, and an a la carte menu prepare guests well for a day of hoofing it between museums. And the service?Service never misses a beat here thanks to a multilingual staff that takes cues from guest interactions as to how involved they should be. Rushed business travelers are attended to swiftly while curious tourists have the staff’s full attention for as long as they need. What type of travelers will you find here?Well-traveled Europeans were in the majority here, but Americans will find this location to be ideal for visiting the Golden Triangle of Art museums. With few public areas, those staying here seem to prefer to get out and explore rather than linger over cocktails in the lobby. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? In one direction, you’ll find more art than you could ever imagine; in the other, you can shop ‘til you drop along Gran Via and in Chueca. You’re only a short walk from tourist hot spots like the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, and Puerta del Sol. If you want to explore, you’re better off here than one of the Paseo de la Castellana hotels. Is there anything you'd change?Millennials might find the restrained look of guest rooms unexciting, but the price list of this elegant lodging is not geared toward their budget anyway. Any other hotel features worth noting?Recreation is not an in-house strength, but guests need only walk one minute to sibling Hotel Urban where a rooftop plunge and fitness center await. Bottom line: Worth it? Why?If you prefer boutique-style hotels with refined decor over larger grande dames with flashy public areas, you’ve hit the jackpot here." - Ramsey Qubein

The hospitality in this hotel was incredible. They made us feel amazing, and had all the small details that make a hotel be a 5 stars. The hotel has an amazing location. It is centric and very safe. It has a cozy terrace to enjoy when you need to rest, and have a drink. And a beautiful museum that is truly a gem— something truly special.

⭐️ 1 star Misleading, dishonest, and nowhere near 5-star quality I booked Hotel Villa Real expecting a proper 5-star experience, but what I got was disgraceful. I was initially placed in a makeshift corner room that wasn’t even in a proper hallway — it felt like a utility or staff room. The bed was smaller than advertised, the mattress was cheap and uncomfortable, and the room was filled with plastic chairs, a dirty minibar, and worn furniture. It was completely misrepresented. When we raised concerns, the staff said there were no other rooms available. But at 3AM, when they saw us heading to our car to possibly leave, they suddenly told us there had been a “cancellation” and offered a new room. That room was slightly larger but had the same old, tired feel. The entire experience was clearly dishonest — they had options but only acted when they realized we might walk out. The bathroom was in poor condition, extremely small bath tub. We spent the entire night and next morning dealing with this, including hours on the phone with Agoda, instead of enjoying our trip. The stress completely ruined the start of our stay in Madrid. In addition to all this AC doesn’t work, first night it didn’t work and I had to call several times after that they turned it on around 3.45 AM, second day today and I have called reception multiple times to say AC doesn’t work - you simply can’t control the AC in room - they turn it OFF and ON as they wish, I’m in room now hoping they will turn it on after multiple calls This hotel is not 5-star by any measure — not in service, not in room quality, and certainly not in honesty. Avoid if you’re expecting comfort, professionalism, or what you actually paid for.

This is a nice hotel in a great location. The staff was kind, but in a 4-5 star hotel we should not have been confronted with the issues that we dealt with.|We reserved a room for a week with breakfast included. When we checked in, they said that breakfast wasn’t included, but that because of the misunderstanding, our breakfast would cost 28 euros instead of 32. The day before we checked out, they said that they were incorrect, and that breakfast actually was included- obviously too late for us. They did not adjust our cost for their error.|Our room had a toilet that wouldn’t flush and a washbasin that sometimes wouldn’t drain. We told them about it when we left one morning, but no one had even looked at it by the time we returned that evening. As a result, we needed to change rooms that night. Our new room wasn’t as nice as our 1st room- again, there was no adjustment in price.|One evening a staff member came by to offer turn-down service. I told her that we were leaving in 5 minutes, so she put the chocolates and towels in my arms and said that she couldn’t wait. Then she headed off down the hall.|The next morning another staff member walked into the room without knocking- fortunately, I had just finished getting dressed. |Simply put, it is not the service we expect from a 4-5 star hotel, and the next time we’re in Madrid, we will stay somewhere else.

I enjoyed my 16-night stay from beginning to end. Every staff member was welcoming, friendly, and helpful, regardless of their role or level of English, and my special thanks go to the staff at the reception desk, as well as to the doormen and the waiters in the breakfast room and on the East 47 terrace. I would highly recommend this hotel for both leisure and business travel, thanks to its client centricity and central location, with major attractions, museums, and neighbourhoods all within walking distance, as well as convenient access to public transport if needed, such as for commuting to Madrid's primary business districts.

I've stayed at this hotel twice and loved it each time. The interior is beautiful and the staff are friendly. My favorite part is the museum and the art pieces in the room; they're such a great addition! The location is great, close to Sol, the Prado, and Gran Vía. Definitely give it a try if you're visiting Madrid!

Absolutely gorgeous stay, the location was perfect to walk to the park and all of central Madrid. The rooms were in perfect condition and the service of both housekeeping and reception were amazing. Can't wait to be back!

This is such a lovely hotel. Classic and stylish all at once. The hotel employees are extremely friendly and helpful. The setting in Plaza de las Cortes is perfect for immersing yourself in the city. The rooms with views of the plaza below are fantastic. This was our second visit to the hotel and we will return!

Only detriment of this place if you are on floors 1 and 2 will get noise from skateboarders who use area in front of hotel to do their tricks. Prado and thyssen museum very close. Reina Sofia within walking distance. Only use metro a few times as everything was within a mile walk.||Gym was small but usable. Did not go to|Pool as not open yet. Bar closes at 11 but made a decent drink.||Room was big as has been area and living area with coach and desk. Liked the complementary frig with drinks. Pillow and bed were comfortable. Har superior room which had two closets so plenty of space to unpack.||Bathroom was Marge with double sink and bidet. Never figured out how to use showerhead.

Yelp
I have a love hate relationship with hotels in most pets of Europe. Hotel Villa real fits the repeated category of being awesome, but just a little too small. To start, the location is outstanding. You're literally right in the heart of the capital and walking distance to some of the best food the country has to offer. You're also walking distance to top attractions like the pardo museum and the famous park. It literally doesn't get better than this location wise. The hotel room itself was great. Clean, simple and quiet. But the small size is an issue. As with most hotels I saw in Spain, you can only get two single beds when booking for two people. This means that if you're staying with someone other than a spouse, expect to be sleeping on a bunk type bed. The beds are also pushed together, making it even more of a challenge. Separately, there is also a sitting room section that comes with a couch, coffee table, desk and television. This section is awesome and is a welcomed diversion from the small size of the sleeping area. Small size aside, this hotel is great if you're visiting Madrid for the first time. I walked to just about everything I needed in Madrid. My biggest suggestion is get a room overlooking the street and not the back of the hotel/courtyard. It's not a good view at all.

Yelp
I came to Madrid for a business trip so I booked this hotel because of the location. My plane arrived at 9am so I came to the hotel hoping that I could check-in early. Unfortunately all the rooms were booked the night before therefore they couldn't check me in. But they let me drop off my bags, took down my number and said they would call when my room is ready. I headed out looking for something to eat. Around noon I received a call from them and they said my room was ready. The bellman helped brought my luggages to the room and showed me how to operate the lights. The room is spacious for just me. I had a junior suite room and there was a separate sitting area with a sofa and a Tv. There was a balcony that to access outside with view of the street. I got changed, and headed out for lunch. When I returned, I found that the cleaning lady was in my room. I had just checked in only a few hours ago, I was not sure what she was doing in my room. Breakfast was included in my room and it started from 7am to 10am each day. It was convenient because I could eat something quick before heading to work. They do not change the items so after a few days I was sick off the food. If you want hot items you will need to order from the menu. The hotel is in a restricted area so only Taxi could come to the front. The front desk lady was helpful. I told her I needed a taxi daily and she arranged it for me. I did not use an Uber my entire trip so I wasn't sure if an Uber driver could get to the hotel. Btw if you want to use Uber in Spain, apparently you need to enter your passport # in the app and they would save it. I did not feel comfortable with this so I did not use Uber. Because of the incident with the cleaning lady, I put up the do not disturb sign at the door and did not request cleaning since. I felt it was unnecessary since it was just me and I was gone most of the day. If you need an iron or a power converter you could ask the front desk and they'll let you keep it for your entire stay. I did not use room service or their restaurant since I did not see anything I like. Just walk 5 or 10 minutes and there should be plenty of restaurants to choose from. Be mindful that most restaurants will be closed from 5pm-8pm. Overall I was happy with my stay. Next time I would probably check out other hotels in the area.

Yelp
Lovely Hotel near the Prado Elegant Five Star hotel in an upscale area just around the corner from the Thysen Bornemisa Museum and near the Prado. Very nice, quiet room and the hotel is set back from nearby streets with traffic. Helpful staff provided good advice with directions and helped us orient us to Madrid's major attractions, many of which are within walking distance. The Madrid Marathon was taking place the morning we checked out and taxis were blocked from the hotel location. Staff carried our luggage to a point where we could get a taxi to the airport. This was the nicest hotel during a three week holiday in Spain and although it is somewhat more expensive than other hotels it was inexpensive by the standards of London, New York or San Francisco. Definitely recommend if you want to budget for a very nice hotel for part of your visit to Spain

Yelp
Location is excellent, and breakfast is excellent Otherwise... The room is small with a strange layout - split level where you have to squeeze by the bed to get to the sofa area. Not much lighting available if you need to do work. They charge you 20 euros/day for each extra person in your room. I did not book the room, so when you book, check whether they tell you about this fee upfront. If not, they will definitely make you pay at check-in. I think it is for breakfast, but you can't opt out of this charge. The breakfast buffet is excellent, but I only ate it because it had been paid for. The gym is a worthless waste of space. It's so sad... there are a couple machines and few dumbbells, but only 1 of each weight and no pairs! They should not have even bothered. I walked over to the Basic Fit nearby for 9 euros/day for a full gym. I must report to you that I had a strange incident - I was sitting on the bed watching TV around 9:30pm, and the bellhop just opened the door without knocking, saw I was there, and said, "oh sorry" then shut the door. I couldn't see who it was from my angle. Confused, I hopped up and opened the door quickly. The guy was walking away and said, "I'm the bellhop" to imply he had a business reason for entering my room. I thought this was VERY shady and when I told the front desk, they acted surprised and said, "I'm so sorry" but did nothing about it or investigate. I mentioned this to other people at the hotel (my same company) and several people had similar stories but different circumstances. One girl was in the shower, and heard the door open. She said she'd plopped her luggage in front of the door, blocking it from opening all the way, so the person shut the door and went away. I cannot think of any reason the bellhop would enter peoples' rooms without knocking and this is very suspicious, not to mention an invasion of privacy. If you stay here, I highly recommend you lock up your luggage before leaving the room because you may not be present when the "bellhop" comes in to do whatever he "needs" to do. If something goes missing, I'm confident this hotel would do nothing about it.

Yelp
Not sure why this is listed in the "Restaurant" category but I can assure you it is a hotel. A very nice hotel. In fact maybe too nice if all you're looking for is a good bed and bathroom. However with internet rates and a good dollar to euro trade Im not complaining. Let's see they give you a bottle of wine, and there's a separate room with a couch. A view from the balcony looks over the Plaza des Cortes towards Neptune's fountain. Pretty damn nice. Again, maybe excessive unless you plan on entertaining. Ridiculously good/attractive/friendly staff. As they often say you get what you pay for, and this is an excellent hotel.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite hotels I've stayed in while in Madrid. The staff is super friendly, the rooms are very clean, and they provide many niceties to make your stay feel more pleasant. The hotel is located in a quiet area and is very close to many plazas and attractions. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
The two level rooms with balconies are a good size for Europe, and the location is great. Unfortunately the amenities are lacking. He gym is a joke- three cheap machines literally looking into a shower. As for room service - you are lucky if they ever show up. I am now sitting in my room an hour and a half after ordering dinner only to have the kitchen staff deny they took my order on the phone.

Yelp
I recommend this hotel. The location is great, you can walk everywhere and there are restaurants all around. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are a nice size and come with a sitting area. I did sample some appetizers at the restaurant but did not have a meal there. The food I did have was excellent. I will return again to this hotel. The Wifi is free for one hour every 24 hours or you can pay to have it the whole time.

Yelp
Great hotel, clean!! Staff is super nice, rooms are spacious. Stay felt luxurious. Breakfast was pretty good too.

Yelp
Very clean, great location, everyone speaks English . Checking in was easy and they always were quick on room service. Only reason I won't give 5 stars is checking out took a long time, I ended up taking my bags myself downstairs because they seemed to be running behind, and they took a while to get my car out. Otherwise good stay.
