Yelp
We planned to stay for five nights and decided we were leaving after 24 hours. Here's what happened:
-BED BUGS. There are bed bugs at this hotel. It was mentioned in a previous review, as was the staff's blasé attitude towards the situation. I assure you it was not taken care of, and that we are currently in bed bug hell trying to make sure we do not bring them home. If that isn't enough to persuade you:
-There are none-ZERO- beachfront rooms at this hotel. They call rooms that are facing the direction of the beach "beachfront", despite the fact that they do not have beach views and are located behind the pool, bar, restaurant, etc. If you paid for a beachfront room (like we did), you are getting scammed (like we did).
-There is no wifi in the hotel rooms. I've seen it mentioned that wifi is "spotty"- it's not. There's none. Wifi is "spotty" throughout the rest of the hotel.
-The staff simply is not that kind, welcoming, nor accommodating. We did not feel welcome at all upon check-in, had to ask for things multiple times (for example, our shower was extremely dirty when we got to our room and I had to ask three times for it to be cleaned). The manager, however, is very kind, and offered to refund us the nights we did not stay.
-Dead bugs literally all over the pool.
-Not the hotel's fault at all, but holbox is the buggiest, most moquito-riddled place I've ever visited.
-There are only dirt roads in Holbox. While this is very cool in theory, if it rains you are screwed. The island was practically flooded and it was extremely difficult to get around.
-Beds are not comfortable. There are no duvets.
-Staff is extremely loud- yelling, laughing, at 6am; which made sleeping past then impossible.
-Lastly, our entire room smelled like sewage.
TL;DR: Listen, we all love camping. Camping is fun, so long as you *know* you're going to be camping, and are not paying over $300 for a luxury hotel experience. Would never stay again, would never recommend to anyone. Also, bed bugs.
