Renovated historic hotel in a great location. Outstanding tile work throughout building. Cafe service in lobby is a nice add. Easy to start the day with a latte. General manager was attentive and very helpful

Google
We loved our stay at Hotel Virginia Santa Barbara! The location is ideal — right in the heart of downtown and an easy walk to the beach, shops, and great restaurants. The hotel itself has so much charm and character, with a beautiful blend of historic touches and modern comfort. Our room was very clean, stylish, and comfortable, and the staff was welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We also appreciated the thoughtful amenities and overall relaxed vibe of the property. A perfect spot for exploring Santa Barbara — we would absolutely stay here again!

Stayed for a long weekend April 25-28. We enjoyed our stay here; the location is excellent for walking both to the harbor and many restaurants at all price points. Our third floor room was spacious, quiet, clean, and the pillows were very good. There is a Keurig in the room, and Starbucks Coffee is available for purchase in the lobby. When we arrived I was a little put off by the small size and congestion in the lobby, and there is only one elevator. The elevator, however, was not a problem. All interactions with the front desk staff were excellent. Would stay here again.

Google
Stayed at Hotel Virginia Santa Barbara and had a great experience. Kayla was especially helpful—she went out of her way to assist with room selection at check-in and made sure everything was smooth at check-out as well. Her service stood out and really elevated the whole stay. Excellent service all around—would definitely come back.

If you want to stay close to state street but avoid the majority of the late night noise this is the place to be. I had a terrible experience at another hotel directly on state street and would never return again. Luckily, much better experience with Hotel Virginia. If you have the Marriott app you can check in before you arrive and pick your room. An upper floor away from the Main Street will help because the building is very old and the windows are literally ancient (and very dirty) and let in all the outside noise. Beyond that, the rooms have been upgraded nicely and are very clean. The bed was comfy and I loved the lather products in the bathroom. In room coffee was atrocious as keurigs always are and I suggest giving dawn cafe down the street a visit instead. Valet was always attentive and available but we rarely saw someone at the front desk. Not an issue for us but something to note. If we come back to Santa Barbara for a quick trip again and need access to state street this will be our place to stay for location and affordability!

Google
Quiet, very comfortable room where we got an excellent night's sleep thanks to (1) thick walls and floors (2) very good air con that didn't dry us out or make odd noises (3) thick pillows (4) overall clean soothing atmosphere (5) convenience to State Street where we took a wonderful long afternoon walk. We also appreciated that the euro-modern shower pan was properly slanted (no water seeping out of the stall), that the shower head was high enough on the wall that we tall people didn't have to crouch down, and that all light fixtures, outlets and tv screen in the room were in good repair. Beautiful views out the windows, location is just as good as the pricier hotels a block or two away. Front desk personnel were few, but alert and didn't disappear into the back office on breaks.

Google
I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful hotel during my visit with friends and I was not disappointed. The customer service provided exceeded my expectations. The staff were welcoming and attentive, from valet to housekeeping. The front desk staff were amazing and made the check in process quick while informing me of things to do in the area. During my stay, my questions were met with smiles and much enthusiasm which made my stay that much better. The outdoor seating area was a nice touch to gather with my friends during our stay.

Google
My family and I stayed here for a quick weekend getaway during the Super Bowl. What a wonderful property this is! The location is what sold us as we were walking distance to everything and a 15 minute drive to the Zoo and Botanical Gardens (Redwoods are a must). We enjoyed our stay and the premium toiletries were really nice. The only reason for the 4 star review with service is there were a few times there wasn't anyone to assist at the front desk, but the Valet / Doorman were really kind and always opened the door for us and assisted with what we needed. Would stay here again 10 out of 10 times we visit SB!

Yelp
This is a boutique hotel that is close to everything. Just walking distance to the beach. We checked in quite late. The lady who checked us in was kind and very helpful. It wasn't a quick one because she was the only one around (or so it seemed like it). However, there was not a problem. The room was quite small, although it was updated. The room we had was on the ground floor. We had to come out of the hotel to go around the entrance to another building. The ceiling was quite low, and I felt quite claustrophobic. The bed was comfortable enough for a night's rest. It was a good experience, but I don't think I'll be back again.

Yelp
If you have to stay here, do not get room 309 or anywhere near that side of the wall. The noise level from outside is ridiculous. Had I known, I would have not stayed here or at least on that side. This is my second time staying here. I did not have this problem the first time. I will definitely be getting my refund tomorrow morning. And they should also notify the guest of the noise level.

Yelp
I made a reservation well in advance to celebrate my birthday at this vintage hotel, which boasts fascinating architecture. The property is exceptionally clean, and when you enter, there's a fresh and inviting scent. Its location is ideal--just a block away from State Street, a must-visit spot in Santa Barbara. While most of the staff were friendly, there are a few issues worth noting: 1. Parking: The hotel charges a $35 valet fee for parking, and finding street parking nearby is nearly impossible. 2. Amenities: Despite offering coffee in the room, no bottled water was provided to make it, which felt a bit stingy. Be prepared to shop for essentials. I asked for extra sugar and after ten minutes the housekeeper brought one package to me lol 3. Room Noise: If possible, request a room on the third floor. The building is old, and the soundproofing is poor--you can hear every footstep from the room above and even sneezes from neighboring rooms. Lastly, double-check your bill before leaving. I was overcharged by $664. Although my reservation confirmed a rate of $223 per night, I was billed $489 per night instead. The manager blamed the system for charging a "holiday rate," which wasn't accurate--the rate online was $279. This error made me lose trust in their billing practices. Always ask for an itemized receipt and verify the charges carefully. P.S. there was a spider in my bed on the second night and those are the mold in the bathroom.

Yelp
This place is absolutely beautiful! The rooms are small but it's like being in a cute 1950's hotel or a hotel in Europe. Except for their valet parking, they don't have on-site parking. They also don't have complimentary breakfast. We got 2 breakfast burritos and a coffee from their "restaurant"/bar which were delicious but cost $45. Other than that, the only issue was hearing pedestrians and cars outside. I would definitely come here again.

Yelp
Stayed here for a mini getaway and we were able to get our room early during weekday and the staff here were nice. They only offer valet parking but you can get in and out easily since the property is small. Highly recommend people to download their app and become members to enjoy some perks. They do not have any restaurant here only a small bar...but the location of this place is so well, easy walk to state streets for some good eats and ice cream and beach is about 15 min walk...very present stay!

Leah S.

Yelp
Staff: excellent Food: pretty subpar options and taste Valet: excellent Location: perfect Cleanliness: excellent Rooms: small Beds: terrible. Sunken mattresses, sleepless night, noisy, back aches. Hilton, you make enough money; replace the mattresses.

Yelp
My review for the hotel is mostly based on location which is great! Right next to state st with restaurants all around. Also an 8 minute walk from the beach which was awesome. We only drove once during our weekend there which was very convenient especially having our baby with us. There is a $35 valet fee per day.The hotel staff were friendly. Our room was clean and a decent size. Overall, hotel wasn't the best but because of the location, we would def stay there again.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall this hotel is nice. The rooms are well taken care of with nice modern decor. Valet is $30/night. Pretty standard but the lot is close and the attendants are awesome. The location here is rad as it's right off State St and you can walk to a ton of good restaurants and shopping. The ONLY downfall for me was the amount of light coming through the door. Had to lay a towel on the floor to block some of it. I would definitely stay here again.

Marissa A.

Yelp
Walls are super thin. We could hear every noise in the hallway and on the surrounding streets. We could even hear people in the room above us showering. Other than that room was very nice and clean

Yelp
Okay where do I even begin! We had a vehicle to park but had to go look for parking. The valet wasn't around when we stopped on the busy street and the parking lot to the side was blocked so we needed to find alternative parking. This meant wheeling our suitcases for a few blocks to the hotel. The front desk attendant made some excuses for this but didn't apologize for the inconvenience. We were shuffled into an annex building with a long hallway. The room seemed to be below ground level because there was little light and lots of street noise. There were no closets in the room and even though they tell you the bar is opened for coffee until 10 pm, it's a lie. No coffee either. Just an attendant who tells you there is a stinky machine in your room that makes coffee. Gee thanks! I don't know about you but if you're like us trying to get an itty bitty vacation and willing to pay the price then avoid this hotel. Staying at a hotel in 2024 is not cheap so service needs to be decent at minimum. This is our second time here. The last time was in 2019. Won't be returning.

Rachelle L.

Yelp
When we entered the lobby it was stuffy, warm, and had an odd smell. We were given room 106 and the room was nicely cleaned. However on multiple spots on the wall there appeared to be water damage. The wall seemed to bubble up and when I touched that portion of the wall it collapsed in and felt crunchy. There was also a spot by the bed where the wall paper was peeled off. The bathroom was large but when I stepped in the bath tub it made a creaking sound each time I moved. It felt like the bathtub was poorly installed. With taxes and fees we paid over $500 for one night. I do not recommend.

Yelp
The hotel is lovely. As is the location. Good bedding, good towels, terrible paper thin toilet paper though. But the front desk staff (ladies) aren't very pleasant and could care less if we were guests there or not and we have been here for 4 nights. The ladies in the morning for coffee were sometimes nice and the bar at night isn't fully stocked so that's awkward. But the valet are amazing. And we're so sweet, everyone of them. I'd consider staying here again on our next trip. We'll see.

Yelp
Quaint lobby area. Smelled a little off-putting. Got assigned room 107 with a king bed. To get to those rooms/ hallway, you had to go through an unmarked door that was on the first floor near the bathrooms and ice machine. Going through this entrance felt like the "ugly stepchild" of rooms that was hidden away from everything else lol. Unfortunately our windows had an eye-level view of the parking lot. The room was cozy but had everything my bf and I needed for a quick overnight stay. Pros: - location is walking distance to many eateries/ bars/ shops - complimentary bike rentals (had to inquire about it since it wasn't initially mentioned- only found out from Yelp) - comfy bed - fast wifi - modern/ newly renovated - street parking readily available Negatives: - big, brown stain on the carpet (pictured) - sink drain smelled bad, like it needed to be thoroughly cleaned - very weak shower pressure (there was a rain shower head but it was only utilizing maybe 4 of the holes) - reading lights on bed frame didn't work - they only had 5 bikes that were available to checkout, and it was first come first serve with no time limit Overall I think this was a decent hotel and we enjoyed our stay nonetheless.

Yelp
This hotel is in a really good location especially when riding the train up to Santa Barbara. Im a Hilton Honor member and I love love the decor of there boutique line. As soon as you walk in the smell of this hotel is very pleasant. It's a 15 min walk to the pier/ beach and steps away from State street. The rooms are a good size and the bathroom is super cute. When staying here they also offer 2 bikes to ride around the city. This place is prime location. I would of loved to given this place a 5 but there shower-head wasn't giving me the water pressure it needed for a nice relaxing shower. In order to shower I had to hold a button on the shower head THE WHOLE TIME!. It was extremely frustrated, especially after a full day and night of hitting the town all I wanted to do is shower. I called the front desk at around 10pm and they had no maintenance onsite. The front desk guy offered to come in my room and "try and fix it" but I declined. He also offered me another room but after unpacking and settling in it was literally a no go. They really need to make sure all things are working in the room before. Especially the important stuff. On the bright side in the morning I walked down to Brisa cafe ( in the lobby) and the younger lady there was really sweet. And she did me a huge favor. She literally deserves 5 stars!!! I don't recall her name. But this world needs more people like her!!!! Thank you so much!

Yelp
I've stayed here twice - the location is great and the rooms are nice. Both times though the attendant for the bar took a long break and therefore there was no one to provide a coffee or a drink from their lobby bar. Insanity - haven't experienced that at any other Hilton.

Yelp
Stayed here for a few nights with my significant other and we absolutely loved it! Parking was a little difficult for us and we had to drive around for a bit for parking the first day then just ended up paying for valet the other two nights to relieve stress. The hotel itself seemed newly renovated and is very clean & quiet. Very aesthetically pleasing- our room was very clean, fresh bedding, bathroom, shower. Small fridge available in the room as well. The location was amazing and the perfect walking distance to all these cute local shops, cafes and restaurants. Everyone was super friendly & happy hour runs late at most places. Would love to come back here in the summer and stay a little longer! Definitely recommend

Yelp
It's a small quaint hotel. The location is perfect cause it's right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. All the shops, restaurants, bars an a movie theater are all extremely walkable. Go down a few blocks it'll extend to the pier. Hotel room my wife and I checked into was good overall. Everything was clean and tidy. Decor of it gave off a nice beach and somewhat rustic vibe due to the bricks. However our bathroom did smell a bit stinky. Probably sewage. Also the shower floor was not properly installed so it leaked a lot of water if it wasn't closed. Rate wasn't too bad, although we did check-in on a weekday. $30 for parking is kinda steep but it is what it is.

Yelp
Basic, rooms are decent and clean. But service is lacking and food options are minimal.

Yelp
This hotel doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you step inside it's beautiful! It was pretty quiet during our stay and we hardly ran into other guests. The location was also perfect... just steps away from State St and a short walk down to the water. Some cons: -Not sure how it works with other hotels in the area, but this one charges an additional $30 per day if you use their lot. We decided not to do that and used the street parking. -When I booked via booking.com I was under the impression that a hot breakfast was included in our stay. I'm not sure if they've recently changed that, but no one at front desk made any mention of breakfast. I was kind of annoyed about that, especially since they do have a posted menu when you walk over to the bar/kitchen area. However, the menu had prices listed so I'm still uncertain about how that works. We never saw anyone eating breakfast. -Our room had a Keurig, but all the pods were decaf. We don't drink decaf. All in all, we would stay here again if we visit SB in the future!

Yelp
What a find!!Very clean, comfy beds. Big shower. Valet pkg $30/day but what a nice Valet Rode provided bikes all around, to dinner and up and down State St. Friendly accommodating staff and bartender super sweet. She let us sample different wines to make out selection. Will definitely be back to stay!
google avatar

Maddi K.

Yelp
Very pleased with my stay at the newly remodeled and rebranded Hotel Virginia. The best part about this hotel would have to be the location. You are right on main street and everywhere is walking distance away. The hotel and the rooms are nicely designed and decorated. Santa Barbara style decor with a modern twist. However, you can tell the hotel is old and still needs some updating on some things. For instance, the only elevator in the hotel was not working. Luckily it's only 3 stories, but it was annoying having to take the stairs every time. Overall it's a good hotel for the price, and if you want to be super close to state street, this is the place for you!
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Wanted to love this place, but do like it. It's centrally located and one block from lots of restaurants, shops and Axe Throwing (seriously). The hotel is smaller but historic and cute from the outside. Staff are friendly and the valet is super helpful with restaurant and local area advice. You can even sign out bikes to ride around the area. Though parking is $30. Ahhh but...depending on which room you get you can have to walk thru a mini alley outside to the other bank of rooms. 3x the staff had the door held open and so we walked into that hallway without needed key cards to our room. Good amount of street noise if room faces Haley street as ours did. Given that this is right on the Main Street that can be a bit off putting. Alas there was a fire alarm triggered at 3am when we were there. Turned out to be a malfunction but you try getting up at 3am shuffling outside for 15-20m and not sure if it's a fire and not told where to go, if it was a false alarm or actually anything. Accidents happen but communication would've helped. All in all nice place, aim for the main building and oh check if your room has a closet (ours did not).

John A.

Yelp
Absolutely a wonderful hotel located in a great area if you want to stay near the downtown area and within walking distance of the beach! The room was very clean and comfortable! One of the most comfortable beds that I've slept in at a hotel. We arrived early in the day and staff were able to get us a room right away! The entire facility was very clean! The three valet drivers we dealt with during our stay were incredibly friendly! One front desk person was not very friendly and not very helpful however I am still giving a five star review because the rest of the staff was extremely friendly! Will definitely stay here again!

C G.

Yelp
Kayla and Evelyn are the best! This hotel was good before it was refurbished, but is really nice even now. No continental breakfast but opportunities to order online to eat there or take to your room. You are literally one block from State street! We parked at the hotel and didn't need to move our car at all. Everything was only minutes away.

Tessa M.

Yelp
Most of the staff are so amazing except for one or two at the front desk that didn't even look up and recognize our presence. A friendly smile would have been nice! Also the older cafe person was never there and people had to wait for her to appear but as soon as she finished all the orders she would disappear into the back for long periods of time. Need someone to be up front at all times or people will take their business elsewhere to the many nearby coffee and breakfast choices. Now on to what was great. Our room was very quiet, the location is perfect being close to State St and only a 15-20 minute walk to the beach. They have a lovely balcony you can hang out on. Rooms were decent and the valet guys were AWESOME always opening the door and very personable. Will definitely stay here again!

Karen A.

Yelp
Love this hotel. Great staff, great central location, very clean, comfortable beds...and you can get a great latte in the morning!
google avatar

Ted Y.

Yelp
So the as is very misleading. It says it is a new hotel but it's really a holiday that was remodeled poorly. The flat screen was hung crooked and not centered. We were on first floor and it was loud from street noise and plumbing Staff was very nice and valet was great. But the $30 a night seemed steep because no tourists were around. The location is Excellant.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Long time Hilton member and traveller. This hotel lists for $7-800 a night. Unbelievable. Its a nice modern look and feel but they have system issues. Check in is 4pm and check out at 11am, feels like you waste the first day. Arrived with a group of people at the same time and no rooms ready for anyone. Seems odd. Rooms are nice but very small, have had cruise ship cabins that are bigger! Service and facilities below most hiltons, no gym, pool, and no restaurant(microwave type menu items)
google avatar

King Q.

Yelp
Arrive to your staff is very warming and very helpful. Welcomed me with warm smiles and very accommodating. It's a small quaint hotel with lots of character. The staff was very knowledgeable of surrounding areas and attractions for us to enjoy. They have bikes to utilize while staying there and very close to a walkable strip of restaurants and shopping
google avatar

Ina P.

Yelp
Just half block away from main district. So u can just walk anywhere for dining. The place is really old and tiny elevator. Windows r soooo old as well. And they didn't have a breakfast since they were on remodeling. But bed was comfortable, bath was clean. ( recently remodeled so everything was pretty new. ) I really enjoyed. But I wonder for sensitive sleeper might wake up often since the building is old so you pretty much can hear everything from outside
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Great stay. The room was clean, design was great, service was great. I was hear for two nights to work w client on the area. I loved the design elements in the room. Bed was comfy There was some street noise overnight with loud people leaving the bars on State Street.

Lindsay P.

Yelp
Meh, a bit underwhelming - for a Hilton Tapestry. Best part was the location, you can pretty much walk everywhere. Parking wasn't great and neither was the valet situation. We were unfortunately stuck in what looked like the annex of the hotel - ground floor room in the corner. Could hear everything on the street, and the ground floor windows were all mostly blocked, so little light got into the room. Kind of a bummer....

Gizzle G.

Yelp
We came SB to celebrate my partner's birthday. We had a large party and we felt right at home. General Manager Frank Domo is so gracious. His energy is infectious. We cannot wait to come back SB, we will definitely be staying at Hotel Virginia again. P.S Joseph at the valet was great as well.

Mark R.

Yelp
Stayed overnight at the Hilton Hotel Virginia Santa Barbara with my wife. Terrible experience. I had just purchased a new BMW convertible that day and drove directly to the hotel to sleep overnight and then drive home the next day to our house in La Jolla. I had read reviews about this hotel alleging the valets had taken a car for a joyride, but my wife really wanted to try this hotel. When I dropped off the car with Tony outside the hotel, I mentioned these rumors, told him the car was brand new and please ensure no one drives it other than to park it in a safe spot in the hotel's private valet parking lot. When we checked out in the morning and had the valet retrieve our car, he drove it up to us at the front of the hotel. When we dropped it off it was immaculate, literally a brand new car. After the valet service at Hilton Hotel Virginia Santa Barbara, the car was filthy as if it was parked under a dirty sprinkler system all night, and had sizeable bird crap right on the brand new black cloth roof. This kind of possible petty maliciousness at worse, and careless service at best, is not anywhere near acceptable from the Hilton brand. At a minimum we would never stay the Hilton Hotel Virginia Santa Barbara again. Beware!

nadine C.

Yelp
Vale drivers were horrible, do not come here. One of the vale guys hit 3 cars on his first day and they still kept him around
google avatar

Genesis C.

Yelp
Great location. Amazing staff, valet guys are super friendly. Yes, parking is $30, but it's better to pay than leave the car on the street with homeless around. I have to agree with some reviews, not sure if they're still remodeling because of the smell, just open the windows (they don't open more than 2") and have the AC Fan so the new air can circulate.
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
This was a good value for the quality and location. Really comfortable rooms that are quite stylish. This hotel is just off State Street - perfect for exploring downtown Santa Barbara. It's also just a few blocks from the beach. Valet parking service was quick and convenient. The beds and pillows were really comfortable. It's in a historic building with a lot of charm. The water was shut off for 3 hours just as our son was getting ready to step into the shower. Luckily it didn't happen when he had shampoo in his hair! Emergencies do happen and sometimes things like that can't be avoided. Still, we left a little grumpy after what had been a great stay up to that point.
google avatar

Yelp
I used to come here when it was a Holiday Inn Express. They since were purchased by Hilton. This visit is the nightmare from hell. The room is missing the air conditioner control. The box is missing from the wall. The they have a fan in the room that does not provide enough cooling. The tv also does not work. I felt deception also since when staff came in the room there were totally surprised at this. I was hoping for a call from the hotel manager but that has not happened. First time I wished I booked at motel 6

Dalia G.

Yelp
This place was nice! I loved that it was brand new and we got to break it in. There were some inconveniences due to the recent grand opening. Overall, it was a nice get away and great stay. Loved how convenient it was to walk all over downtown. Hopefully next time I come back everything will be in order.

Debra S.

Yelp
Great location in downtown Santa Barbara. Rooms and beds are every cozy. They have a small kitchen there too which I wasn't aware of and mistakenly Door Dashed my breakfast. Not next time. Will definitely order one of their smoothies Part of the Hilton chain so you gain Honors points. My stay was for business, thus I was alone. Looks like a nice spot for couples too. My favorite SB winery (Frequency) is in walking distance too which is a plus. Front desk and valet staff is very helpful and friendly. Will come back each time I'm in town.

A. G.

Yelp
Our room was small but well decorated and well appointed; the people, very much including the valet guys, were friendly and helpful; the location was perfect for our needs/wants -- walkable to all the great restaurants in the Funk Zone, and to the waterfront. Speaking of, we found out that the two bikes in the lobby are there for the renting (with the first few hours being free), so we took them to the nearby waterfront path and had a great time biking along the water.

Yelp
we stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights for a short family trip and we all absolutely loved it. everything was so clean and organized. the rooms are also so gorgeous. my mom didn't want to leave! it is close to downtown so everything (including the beach) was walking distance. this was our first time in the area, and the guy at the front desk (jay) was SO helpful. he gave us a ton of suggestions and helped us with any questions my family had. he was also extremely welcoming and kind. we had such a great stay that my family is planning another quick trip here in the next few months!

Lilian L.

Yelp
The hotel was clean and check in staff was friendly and informative. Other than that, we did not like it. First, it was misleading that Hilton website labeled it as "new" when in fact it was newly acquired and remodeled. So when you first stepped in the lobby, you would get that yucky smell from old buildings. The room was so small that when you open the door, people outside in the hallway could see your bed. Usually I would put out pajama on bed and change at bedside. But then I realized my husband just stepped out and did not want someone see me naked when he returned and open the room door. And there was only one chair next to the tiny table. My husband and I could not both sit there and work on our computers. This is a room with king size bed that 2 chairs should be the minimal. The shower area and bathroom countertop are also tiny. On the next morning, I needed bottle water to brew coffee. When I went to the front desk, there was a lady there checking out and had some issues with using her points. I patiently waited. After 20 minutes when I saw they were not talking, I politely asked the front desk staff if I could just get bottles of water. He (FRRO) rudely said that he was still helping another customer. So I left. When I checked out later, being a diamond member, we were supposed to get $15 credit each person for a total of $30. Instead of giving me the credit, FRRO charged it to my credit card on file. Luckily, I always asked for a printed copy and found his mistake. Then he put the blame on the computer system of not doing it right. Earlier, he just recognized that I was a diamond member and yet he failed to do the proper the thing.
