I made a reservation well in advance to celebrate my birthday at this vintage hotel, which boasts fascinating architecture. The property is exceptionally clean, and when you enter, there's a fresh and inviting scent. Its location is ideal--just a block away from State Street, a must-visit spot in Santa Barbara. While most of the staff were friendly, there are a few issues worth noting:
1. Parking: The hotel charges a $35 valet fee for parking, and finding street parking nearby is nearly impossible.
2. Amenities: Despite offering coffee in the room, no bottled water was provided to make it, which felt a bit stingy. Be prepared to shop for essentials. I asked for extra sugar and after ten minutes the housekeeper brought one package to me lol
3. Room Noise: If possible, request a room on the third floor. The building is old, and the soundproofing is poor--you can hear every footstep from the room above and even sneezes from neighboring rooms.
Lastly, double-check your bill before leaving. I was overcharged by $664. Although my reservation confirmed a rate of $223 per night, I was billed $489 per night instead. The manager blamed the system for charging a "holiday rate," which wasn't accurate--the rate online was $279. This error made me lose trust in their billing practices. Always ask for an itemized receipt and verify the charges carefully.
P.S. there was a spider in my bed on the second night and those are the mold in the bathroom.
