We had the most incredible stay at Hotel Walloon for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special — from handwritten welcome notes to champagne and rose petals waiting in our room. Every detail of our stay felt personalized; the team remembered our names and made sure we had everything we needed. All of the food and drinks provided in the lobby were excellent! The cozy, intimate atmosphere of the hotel made it feel like a true retreat. We can’t imagine a more perfect place to celebrate the start of our marriage, and we hope to return for years to come! There is no place like it. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic and memorable getaway.

We stayed here for our 25th anniversary. We wanted a place where we could relax and feel pampered, and this was the perfect choice! We left behind the hustle and bustle of Washington DC and spent 3 nights in perfect tranquility at Hotel Walloon. The room had everything we needed to feel comfortable, and the staff was the best! We enjoyed the delicious food that was brought out several times a day, especially the 5 o'clock hors d'ouvres. And now that we are back home, I'm having withdrawals from the hotel's coffee machine. I really want a freshly brewed decaf skim milk cappacino in the middle of the afternoon to enjoy on my private patio with a good book and lakeside breeze!

Adorable hotel. Loved the small luxury feel that it has. Its a great place to stay to for a central location to enjoy all of the adorable lakeside towns in Northern Michigan. I will be back. The rooms are very nice with nice amenities. and loved the complimentary food station throughout the day .

We loved this hotel. The service is impeccable. The staff are friendly and wonderful (Owen, Margo, Joe, housekeeping, and all others), the 24-hour coffee/snacks are a great addition. We ate twice at the Inn restaurant (Ariel served us well), an easy walk, and each meal was spectacular. We stayed three nights, but wish it had been three weeks. We hope to visit again from Texas.

The amenities are top notch. The staff is exceptional. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and conveniently located. Parking was easy, food was delicious and always available, and the espresso machine was such a nice addition to our stay. The views of the sunset over Walloon Lake are unbeatable! We've stayed at several nice properties in northern Michigan, but this was our favorite by far. We will definitely be back.

Everything was top notch (staff, room, amenities, food) and exceeded our expectations. What a sweet little town with great offerings for families of small children, couples, large groups. Room was very comfortable and beautifully appointed, with so many special touches. Walloon Lake Inn was excellent for dinner.

This is hands down the best experience I've ever had with a hotel in my entire life. The service is beyond phenomenal. I've only heard of my grandparents experiencing such service back in a bygone age that I thought I'd never get to live. The rooms were very clean and the location is right on the water. There is wonderful coffee downstairs 24/7, but they have snacks and treats throughout the day. The only complaint was the weather but they can't do anything about that sadly. Though I didn't ask.

If you are looking for a relaxing, comfortable place to unwind this is it. I really have no words to describe the staff and atmosphere that are strong enough to describe what a phenomenal place this is. Everyone treated us with kindness and professionalism. Coffee bar and snacks were perfect. Everything was top notch. We will go back!

Yelp
I'd give it ten stars if I could! They think of every little detail and it's so cozy and welcoming. We've influenced friends and family to come back at least once a year - the Village of Walloon is growing and it's just the best.

Yelp
If you live in Michigan, and haven't stayed here during Christmas then you haven't been taking advantage of probably one of the best vacations this state has to offer. This cozy hotel, nestled near Petosky and surrounded by many wineries, is the most fabulous boutique hotel. The outdoor trees are beautifully decorated and it makes you feel like you're in a hallmark movie. As we drove up, and parked we were met by an employee who knew our names and took our bags to our room. Felt like I was in Dubai getting VIP status service again. Our check-in was swift, and we were given a tour of the downstairs which had an amazing bar with a roaring fire, and free snacks and waters. It also had a small gym, and a game room containing a billiards table. Once we finally got to the room we were so shocked. The room was massive and absolutely breath taking. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the sheets were super soft. The highlight was the outdoor patio. We got a room on the first floor. The patio came enclosed with heaters so that you can go out and look out at the lake and not freeze. During Christmas they put a Christmas tree on each patio. Very romantic and festive. Service is, by far, the number one thing about this place. The hotels beauty is obvious, but it only goes so far if the service isn't there. We loved every minute of our stay. The bartender in the evening was the best. We sat there for hours and just chatted. He was very personable, and fun to talk to. We also wanted to use the jacuzzi, so the front desk employee went, and opened it up for us even though it was freezing outside. They also let us stay 20 minutes past the hours of operation without question. There were many more things we didn't do like snow shoeing on the lake, but they offer many things for kids, families, or outdoor enthusiasts. Overall, this was probably one of the best vacations we have had. From the service to Amenities they checked every box. If you are looking for romance, or even a family get away then this place is a must. We also took advantage of the wineries in the area. They are still open in the winter. I wish I would of snapped more photos for all to see, but I was wanted to live in the moment and not technology. This place has won many awards as a top wine hotel in the country. Just make sure you call way in advance for reservations. They book up extremely early. We booked a year in advance.

Yelp
Beautiful setting Extremely attentive staff esp Susan one of the house keeping staff that was sooo nice but so was everybody else Rooms very nice we had a lake view a must for the misses most of the rooms have king beds BUT Apparently in the whole place there were only 2 ( TWO) count em in the whole place not sure of how many rooms but on the moderate to small size we would up with both of them disgusting privilege on my part Other than for the pillow debacle ( the other pillows were certainly not up to my standard‍) things were GREAT and I would not hesitate to return but of course we will be discussing pillows prior to arrival and I usually travel with some of my own as I have a bit of a neck issue And when we were there boat rentals were 1 /2 price Life is GOOD

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with a unique boutique atmosphere. Rooms are well maintained and very clean. Staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming. The only two negatives the lounge bar staff drinking while serving Breakfast very repetitive, muffins and yogurt) and limited availability. We definitely want to return !

Yelp
My wife set this entire deal up. I never heard of Walloon Lake or Hotel Walloon, but man this place is nice! Thumbs up!! On the downside it is expensive, but you totally get what you pay for. I mean it is nice enough that I don't mind paying more. They give a veterans discount in the off season (November and March) very much appreciated.

Yelp
They totally screwed us. I teach college, so we can only get away in the summer. We had booked a week in the summer of 2022, but we both got Covid and couldn't go. They would not roll over our reservation for the next summer. We had to take it within an eight-month time frame, which was useless because of my teaching commitments. They refused to budge. No other resort would treat someone like this. Caveat emptor!!

Jim O.

Yelp
Found out that they never had to close during the covid virus. Place was really clean on my prior visit, but even more so this time. Social distancing practiced. All employees were very courteous and friendly. Everything offered in the past was still available- just served a bit differently. Numerous options for curb side pick up, for food - in Boyne city 6 miles away. Even more restaurants about 20 miles away in petoskey. Above average spring weather helped a lot also. Fun place.

Yelp
Over rated. Super high rates. They don't want larger parties or kids.

Yelp
We traveled to Michigan for an impromptu weekend trip and visited Lake Walloon based on a very positive review in USA Today. We stayed at Hotel Walloon, a wonderful little hotel located right on the shores of Lake Walloon. The rooms are spotless and beautiful, the staff is attentive, and the amenities are generous. They offer free parking, a complimentary continental breakfast, and snacks/desserts at different times of the day. The hotel has a fitness room, billiards room, reading room, hot tub and fire pit. There is no swimming pool and no restaurant on the premises, but they do have a small bar that serves wine, beer and mixed drinks. The bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly and we had a good time taking to them. Our room was on the first floor lakeside and the view was outstanding. The hotel itself is close to wineries and the town of Petosky, which is worth the trip. Just a peaceful, bucolic setting that promised to be very relaxing. Oh, and Emily, Owen and Cathy were amazing and really made the experience memorable. BUT... Beware if you stay on a Saturday night. The Walloon Inn directly next door (and owned by the hotel) sometimes hosts wedding receptions and the music is loud in the hotel rooms. On the Saturday we stayed, the wedding DJ was outside and the sounds permeated our walls and made it difficult to read, watch TV or sleep for a few hours. It was much louder on the hotel grounds which diminished the relaxation of the fire pit and hot tub. The racket ultimately died down around 10PM. Since there is nothing open nearby at night, we were compelled to play pool in the billiards room for 90 minutes to escape the noise. This was unfortunate since our first 2 days (sans weddings) were perfect. (To be fair, our room was on the ground floor lakeside. We spoke to another couple on the 2nd floor and they said the noise wasn't too bad in their room.) I would recommend calling the hotel in advance to see if there are any weddings on-site before booking your stay for this reason. Otherwise, we had a great time and loved our visit to Hotel Walloon.

Yelp
As far as boutique hotels are concerned, this one is top- notch. I had never been to this area before to lodge and was very pleasantly surprised at how clean, serviceable and amicable this place and its workers are. They are some of the most polite people I've had the pleasure to meet. Very helpful in every aspect! The hotel itself is small, 35 rooms, that can range up to $800/ night! They do offer a private bar (featuring all day food services like free breakfast- scones, coffee, appetizers- shrimp, crab cakes, and a full stocked bar with a fireplace for lounging. Very cool, chill place to grab a drink and wind- down. Thoroughly enjoyed my nightcaps each night with Chris, great 'tender! Also, Chris did everything here! Helped with reservations each night a Barrel Back, made me custom cocktails I instructed, opened the hot tub, and spent time just conversing on various topics. Good on ya, mate! I will say, the only issues I had with the place was the beds and how dry it got in our room. The bed was small and lumpy, gave me back soreness and the pillows were dreadful. Had to mention how dry I was in passing to one of the custodians (she thought I was sick) and they brought me a humidifier, which was awesome of them. The people make this place! Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy the "high life" a bit if you can afford it. This location is in the middle of everything; Boyne, Petoskey, Charlevoix. Will be back.

Yelp
One word, Bravo!!!! From a serial complainer they do everything perfect. From the maintenance and design to and especially the staff outstanding. One of the coolest places you could ever stay, walk next door have a drink and great meal and coffee by the fire. This place is old world hoteliers tradecraft, runs like a Swiss time piece. Highly recommended, thanks to all!

Yelp
Too bad the hotel has such a crummy restaurant that it has to make huge orders from the decent places in town.

Yelp
This was the best hotel I've ever stayed in. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in my lifetime & even though other hotels may be bigger & have more of a modern interior/ exterior, you can't find a hotel with better hospitality & respect than this one. I chose to stay at this hotel based of off the great reviews and I'm so glad that I decided to stay here ! The hotel offers free snacks & free valet parking. There's a phone in the room with numbers to the front desk & the Barrel Back Restaurant where you can order your food to the room if you please. There is a bible in the nightstand drawer which I thought was very cool. The rooms & bathroom were very clean and just the perfect amount of space. I stayed in a king room with cottage view. Anything you need or want the hotel staff will help accommodate. I will definitely be back, I wanted to book my stay for next year before I even checked out. Just completely amazing hotel & staff. Thank you Hotel Walloon for making my stay extremely comfortable! You guys are great !!

Yelp
Have stayed there 5 times now while checking on construction of our home in the area. Had I known of this place before hand (and if it had a slightly larger pool) I'm not sure we would have bought a home up there. It is a wonderful hotel, with a wonderful staff, world class décor and breathtaking views. 5 stars all the way around.

Yelp
My husband and I have come to hotel walloon 2 years in a row now. They have an amazing promotion for law enforcement officers and we take advantage of it. The staff is always fabulous. Greeting us as soon as we arrive with our names. It is beautiful and clean. Rooms are perfect.

Yelp
Loved our recent stay at this charming hotel. It's impeccably and thoughtfully designed, adjacent to Barrel Back restaurant, basically 1 of the 2 hotel operated (and only) eating establishments in town. Luckily they are excellent and worth going to repeatedly as we did for dinner and breakfast. We look forward to returning during the summer when the lake can be thoroughly enjoyed. Pros: - the staff collectively was friendly and attentive - comfy bar/lounge area with "Franke," a very addictive barista machine and good bartenders mixing up delicious cocktails. - great views on the lake side. - a VERY soft and comfy comforter I'm going to look up and buy online. - the new design of the hotel is able to very effectively straddle quaint charm with modern comforts and amenities. - conveniently located to many of the charming cute towns like Petoskey and Charlevoix. Only a few Cons (just to be nit picky): - would have appreciated a nice token waiting in the room to commemorate our anniversary, most places of this caliber would have sent champagne or strawberries or warm cookies?? - mid-October when virtually everything in town is shut down is definitely "off-season" and we should probably have been charge off season rates. All in all... A true lovely boutique hotel rarely found in the state of Michigan, especially "up north." We will be back!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed a Friday and Saturday night and were absolutely blown away! The setting is ideal and the service is amazing. The hotel is brand-new and the rooms are gorgeous. They have every modern convenience and if you get a water side room you will not want to leave the room because the view is spectacular. The hotel is a little on the expensive side but worth every penny. A great place for that special occasion.

Beverly G.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and superior staff. From our arrival, we were met by Phil. He was awesome and very welcoming and helpful. The view of the lake is incredible. The hotel lobby makes you feel at home. The grounds are beautiful. The manager Marc is very nice. The entire staff was very courteous. Wish we could have stayed another night.

Yelp
If there were ten stars, I would give ten. Just returned from a weekend with my husband. This is by far the most luxurious and personal property I have ever stayed at, and I'm accustomed to 5 star properties. From addressing us by name the moment we pulled up(they ask what you drive when you register) to every little detail being though of ahead of time...this is a great place to luxuriate. Literally. We stayed in the lakeside king room. Gorgeous view of the lake and just a beautiful, spacious room. Anything you need, they will get it for you. 24 hour valet. Need something from the general store a couple miles away? They'll be happy to get it. Breakfast pastries, snacks, chocolates, charcuterie, and the most amazing espresso and coffee machine for all day complimentary coffee in the comfy lobby. I only wish I had more time to read in one of the cozy nooks. The hot tub - gorgeous. Fitness center - perfect and stocked with a fridge of bottled water and complimentary disposable earphones. Apple TV is available upon request. Turndown service with Kilwins chocolates. We will definitely be back sooner rather than later.

Yelp
This hotel nestled on the shore of Walloon Lake is truly a gem. The caliber of service is what you would expect in a five-star hotel in Chicago. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. Their friendliness and attentiveness is the heart of this hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful. Modern and yet merges with the surrounding lake area to create an up north feeling in a high-end boutique hotel. The reception area and adjacent lounge is inviting and begs you to sit down and relax. The Franke coffee machine was our best friend in the morning! Amazingly good coffee. The game room is well stocked and comfy. A lot of thought went into every inch of this hotel. The rooms are beautiful and have the little amenities that make staying in a hotel feel special. One of the highlights was sitting on the dock in the morning outside the hotel with our coffee and baked goods from the well-stocked continental breakfast bar. We'll return again to our new favorite hotel in Northern Michigan.

Abby L.

Yelp
Adored this beautiful boutique hotel. The service was top notch, and every single employee added to our stay. We brought our two kids, and at first I was a little nervous (little bulls in a china shop), but the staff went out of their way to make us all feel welcome. I wish we didn't live so far away!

Tracy L.

Yelp
Thank you to Hotel Walloon for accommodating me and my husband with our challenging travel plans. We are looking forward to staying when we are back in Michigan.

Katherine W.

Yelp
Everyone & everything at the hotel & inn was phenomenal during our wedding anniversary trip: the valet Jakob greeted us by name when we pulled into the hotel parking lot Friday evening and assisted us with our luggage, Kelly at the front desk greeted us by name and asked how our drive from Ann Arbor was when we checked in Friday evening, Chris at the hotel bar made us a drink by special request (that was perfect) on Friday night, Rebecca provided a lovely turn-down service on Friday night (loved the chocolates & little chap stick she left us!), hotel manager Marc greeted us at breakfast and told us about this history of the hotel on Saturday morning, Brenda did an impeccable job with housekeeping and turn-down service on Saturday, Debra provided us very helpful information on area attractions while at the front desk on Saturday... basically, every single person associated with the hotel and inn provided the highest quality service, and the food & accommodations far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be returning for our next special occasion!
