Lovely views. Everything you needed was in room. The staff were very friendly and helpful.||We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and would definitely recommend it. Unfortunately we didn’t have a renovated room and it was a bit dated but it still had everything we needed. It had a small balcony with a beautiful view. ||There is a funicular down from the Train Station to near the waterfront which is so useful. Unfortunately we didn’t know that when we arrived and carried our cases down loads of steps! ||We loved Lugano, it is a beautiful, clean city. ||We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This is a great hotel right on the waterfront in Lugano. It’s worth getting a room with a balcony if you can - all rooms face the water but sitting out on the balcony with a drink at the end of the day is special. A really good breakfast included. The rooms are not large but very serviceable and all amenities are available. A great restaurant on the ground floor and the piazza just 2 mins walk. A wonderful place to stay.

Incredible place to stay in Lugano. The hotel is right on the water with a gorgeous view. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Safe hotel. Great breakfast in the morning! It's delicious, and you're able to look over the water as you eat. Cute rooftop area for lounging. Would highly recommend.

We stayed at the Hotel Walter for one night but it was well worth it. The view of Lake Lugano from our room balcony was breathtaking as you're situated right on the waterfront. The room was well appointed and they had best pillows we'd come across after staying in several 4-5 star hotels across Switzerland. We enjoyed the breakfast and the staff kept the buffet fully stocked.

This hotel went beyond our expectations. Switzerland is expensive, but this hotel was worth it right from|The helpful staff at checkin, to the lovely architecture, tasty breakfast and unbelievable view from the balcony. Pay the extra francs to stay here and you won’t be disappointed.

"I recently stayed at Walter Au Lac and had a disappointing experience. Our room was infested with bugs, and the air conditioning wasn't working. When we brought this to the hotel's attention via email , we didn't get a satisfactory response. The hotel's response to our complaints was dismissive, blaming it on 'windows and doors letting bugs in.' There was a huge spider I personally encountered in the shower which was nowhere near a window or door. However, one staff member did try to make things right, working with us until 2 am to resolve the issue. They even admitted that the room hadn't been adequately cleaned. Despite this effort, the hotel's overall performance fell short of expectations especially for the amount of money we paid for our stay (600 Swiss francs). I hope the hotel takes steps to improve their cleanliness and responsiveness to guest concerns and not just make excuses." They also control the A/C thermostat and we were not able to use it. In their email they states the season was cool outside and a/c was not needed, that we could open windows and door (and let more bugs in). Hôtel is a joke.

Horrible Experience at a Beautiful Hotel - Would Not Recommend I recently stayed at what was supposed to be the "best room in the hotel," and unfortunately, my experience was nothing short of a nightmare. I was expecting a luxurious stay in a beautiful location, but instead, I encountered deplorable conditions that ruined my entire trip. Upon entering the room, I was immediately greeted with a horrifying sight: bugs everywhere. The walls, ceiling, and even the bed were infested with insects, and to top it off, there was a huge spider in the shower. It was not only unpleasant, but it also felt unsafe. To make matters worse, the air conditioning was not working, which made the already uncomfortable environment even worse. Ernesto, the only employee working that night, tried his best to resolve the situation. He spent hours in the room attempting to control the bug problem and even admitted that the room had not been properly cleaned and that the conditions were unacceptable. He assured us that the hotel would compensate us for this horrible experience. However, this was where the hotel's customer service failed us further. Despite the severity of the issue, when we contacted the hotel about the bugs and sent pictures, their response was dismissive. They claimed that because we were on a certain floor, bugs might have been able to enter the room, and they focused entirely on asking for medical receipts for the bedbug bites we received during our stay. The fact that we paid Fr.600 for one night and had to endure such a traumatic experience is simply unacceptable. Ernesto was in our room until almost 2 AM trying to fix the situation, but we needed to leave for the airport at 6 AM. We didn't get any rest, which made the entire ordeal even more frustrating. It's a shame because the hotel has so much potential-gorgeous location, beautiful views-but the lack of proper maintenance and the failure of the hotel staff to assist guests when needed ruined what could have been a wonderful stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless they make significant improvements to their cleanliness, customer service, and maintenance. It was an overall horrible experience, and I truly hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously.

Google
Loved Lugano however found some reception staff unfriendly and rude We would like to commend the young dark haired girl at reception who was very nice but the others! Breakfast room pleasant with lots of choice and staff attentive Room although it had the best view of the lake it felt like it was uneven and the floors creaked terribly

Yelp
Get a LAKE VIEW room on one of the more newly renovated floor (I was on 4th floor) and you won't be disappointed! Best lake view hotel where room is under $200/night in Lugano. If you have a lot more dough to spend & you want Peninsula Hotel type service Splendid is the hotel for you. If you want family-run, quaint hotel this is the hotel for you. I also liked how it was 5 minutes walk from train station (including cable car ride) and right down the street from water sport activities and the ferry. It was utterly convenient. The view from the breakfast room, sitting room (offering free nespresso) or room is just unparalleled. I will say as an American, when I first checked I didn't find the woman nice when I asked for suggestions but then I realized culturally it comes off this way as I forgot how northern Italians are - but she warmed up and I had a good experience. I also had tried out a 4 star hotel that is extremely "overrated" on TripAdvisor and Expedia (Hotel Dante) and I'm sure if the guests of that hotel checked out this one, they would prefer this 3 star a lot better. PS (old Yelp review from 2011 the hotel def has air conditioning! And it kept room cool... the place def has been renovated in the past 2 years. Also previous Yelp review my room had a fridge!)

Yelp
This is not a place to stay during one of the sweltering summer heat waves that periodically grip Lugano. Without air-conditioning, the tiny rooms can be miserable. At other times of the year, the clean budget furnishings can be more comfortable, but in general, this is a bed for the night when everywhere else in town has filled up. This happens often in Lugano, one of the more beautiful resorts of Europe. The hotel's location, on the lake just off the Piazza della Riforma, could not be better. The road is a bit noisy until late at night, but unless you are a very light sleeper, you will make it through. So if you come with low expectations, you will not regret staying here. Note: the hotel takes a long winter holiday from January into March, so check their website before coming.

Yelp
I spent 3 nights at this hotel in September 2016. The best feature of the hotel, of course, is it's location- right on the lake, the views are amazing! The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful: one of them called several local restaurants for me to find out which one had my favorite dish! The rooms, at least mine, was very basic and functional. Keep in mind: you have to ask reception to turn on the air conditioner. The sun in the morning is bright and the room gets pretty hot. Minibar has no refrigerator. If looking for a firm pillows- good luck! Breakfast is basic: cold cuts, croissants, cereal, fruits, yogurt, juices and coffee. Since most guests don't really sit in their rooms, you can overlook minor inconveniences. Very central location close to everything. I do recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Nice, cute hotel directly at the lake. The rooms are small, but clean. The hotel is at a great location.
