I stayed in a solo room. There was definitely value for money at $58 AUD per day. Room wasn’t too bad, shower while it had its quirks, was ok. Slight turn of the handle one way and it was too hot. Other way too cold. My two biggest gripes. ||1) The dryer is not great. Takes two cycles to get your laundry dry (one cycle is 45m)||2) I returned after a day out of my room to find it not locked. As in anyone could have pushed the door open without a card.||Nothing was taken however, not the best experience to find potentially everything could have been taken.

Honestly all the bad reviews, in my opinion, were people paying three star rates with five star expectations; the rooms are basic but clean (rather large tbh), with towels and flannels. They’re warm and very secure. Wish my room have come with a kettle like others said they had but that’s an absolute minor. Cannot get a better location; straight off the ferry, easy walk to Cuba street, the stadium and the arenas. We left our car on street parking, as free from 8pm- 8am. Others also had their car there and had no trouble. Will be staying here again on my next trip to Wellington

The hotel was dirty filthy actually the rooms have a stink odor the furnishings look like they are from your dead grandma's house. I found junkie needles and blood in the closet in my room. The staff were men and not friendly the place is dark and just feels yucky. The only good thing about this place was the one guy that allowed me to change rooms. Thank you to him. I would never come back here. And please don't bring your kids here seems like a place lost people stay to get high . Gross.

It is in an old building whose foyer could do with a facelift. The rooms are alright but the bathrooms are showing their age. For the purpose of being a backpackers, it does the job nicely. The staff are not bad. The location is the real winner - the railway station and a supermarket are literally over the road, as is Parliament if you are in town for something political.

The position is excellent, it located just opposite to the train station. 2mins walk from there. The room is booked is with others, the bed are poor. Every single move one the bed make noise even I just move a little. But the common area is great, it is huge and there is a TV room.

Good stay. Big hostel with a large commun space. We stayed two nights in a private room that was spacious and with everything we needed. Location is perfect, near the trainstation and 15’ walking to the center. Only bad point: the insulation. It wasn’t cold in the room but we were able to hear all the noise from outside. At the end, it was overall a good stay and a good value for money.

Genuine Retro hotel. Super-clean and comfortable single rooms at a very affordable price. Well heated. Lashings of hot water for showers.|Beds are excellent. I slept extra well. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Got the private double room with private bathroom for a layover between wellington and picton. Was perfect for what we needed. Easy check in, friendly, clean.

Yelp
It's not nearly as nice as the places outside of big cities we stayed in, but this made sense for a city hotel/hostel. The outside is impressive, but the inside is pretty dingy and run-down. The room contained 2 bunked beds and a desk. There were 3 inner doors off a shared little atrium area with a door from the main hall. The doors went to 2 guest rooms and a shared bathroom with an impressive freestanding bathtub. You need a key to get into the building at night. It's nice there's security, although it didn't seem hard to tailgate in. The "free wifi" only means an hour, but it was per device, so it was sufficient. There's an elevator, although it's ancient. There are lockers for storing bags, and it was maybe $4-6 NZD to store bags for several hours. The place is completely unimpressive, but it gets 3 stars because of the location, which is very convenient: it's right across the street from the Bluebridge Ferry terminal, and right down the street from all of the government buildings. It's maybe a 20-30-minute walk to Te Papa. It's very walkable to places to eat. There was a decent amount of metered street parking around and available.

Yelp
This hotel/hostel is a decent place for people who are travelling by train into Wellington and are looking for low cost accommodations. The main train station. (Wellington terminal) is across the street from this hotel so it is convenient if you are arriving into Wellington by train. The first night I was in the 20 bed dorm for only night and found the room to be very crowded but the bed was comfortable and I slept well (so no complaints). I switched to a single room with a shared bathroom for the last 2 nights and I liked that a lot better. It was small, clean room with a tv and it was quiet and I slept well so I was definitely satisfied with it. The hotel is no frills and I was looking for a place to sleep that I could afford so it fit the bill for me. If you are looking for luxury and something more modern this probably not ideal for you. I liked the retro art deco design although for some might feel it is outdated and worn. Customer service at the front desk was overall pretty good. There are 2 computers in the common area which were free to use and they had internet access (they slow but functional). A bar and small cafe that serves food downstairs and fast food restaurants are very nearby. A good place for those on a budget and want a place by the train station and not interested in frills.
