This hotel is in an excellent location and the rooms are spotless. The showers and toilets are shared but very clean. It is a very good value hotel. The stairs aren't for the faint hearted! We arrived with a small child and a grandmother in the middle of the madness of the music festival. We were not really the target market for this hotel as it is over pub. However the staff could not have been nicer! We were treated very well and would definitely stay here again. Very good value! Also have to mention the waitress;she made my 6 year old's holiday by giving him chocolate for breakfast. Actually the breakfast is really good too - excellent coffee ( with refills). So thumbs up!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Weisses Kreuz in St Gallen. My husband attended a medical congress at the Olma Messen. It was in close proximity to this hotel - he was able to walk to the venue. The room was spotless and very comfortable. We had our own shower but shared a toilet with 2 other rooms, which was not a problem. The hotel is in an excellent location, right on the doorstep to the Old city. The breakfast was very good and the owner and his staff could not have been more accommodating. The floors were creaky, but this is an old building, so can be expected. The accommodation was excellent value for money.

I stayed in this hotel with a friend for three nights. For a shorter stay it was a pleasant experience. It is quite basic but it has a few good things, which makes it a worthy pick. The location is remarkably good. The breakfast is decent but included. The staff is friendly. The beds are very comfortable (even though they don't look like it).

The bed and the room was good. Everything was clean. There are two downsides: the windows are old, therefore you hear every noise from the street (annoying with Saturday night party people) and you need to go through the small bar at the hotel entrance to get to the rooms. Which is no problem in normal times, but they did not really care about corona measures, which makes it unsafe also for hotel guests.

The hotel rooms are quite large, but have no en-suite toilets, which w didn't realise when we booked. The price is relatively reasonable for the fact that it is switzerland. THe location is convenient - in the city centre and therefore all the major sights and shopping areas are walkable. The staff were friendly and we liked the breakfast. It is a bit old and needs some refurbishing - especially to bring the bathrooms into the rooms!

The price was extremely good considering it's Switzerland and that it was in the exact center of the city! It was very clean, spacious enough and the furnishing was very nice and modern enough, including an unneeded giant TV in the room. The included breakfast was of good quality and they provided a good amount of food.||||There are just the common inconveniences of not having the bathroom in the room but... you know it when you book it! Also, the stairs are quite steep, but I prefer it this way than made to fit lazy modern people taste.

Excellent all round from staff, meals and rooms. Rooms large and well equipped overlooked gardens at rear of hotel. Meals , breakfast good with cereals and yoghurts, cheese and colds meats as well as some cooked food plus coffees, teas and fruit juices.||Evening meal choice of 3 mains which you choose in the morning and took card 1,2 or 3 what you wanted, starters and sweets local but very good, drinks reasonable and staff friendly and attentive. WI Fi free and available throughout the hotel well done.||Sauna in the basement, much enjoyed and sure I benefitted. Went another day to find all men naked put this shy Englishman was put off.

This was truly a horror. I paid 190 CHF in total for two nights in a double room. It was a veritable dump. The bed was made up of two thin single mattresses on a low-set frame with extremely old/discolored pillows from Ikea under the pillow case. The walls of the room were paper thin. Next door we could hear the guy snoring all night and got 3 hours sleep the second night before we had to leave at 08:40. We had even been woken up by that guy's work colleague who came to collect him at 06:30 and knocked on our door instead so I suspect they are doing long stays for construction workers. The 'bathrooms' which are shared were another horror. It's clear this hotel is raking in the cash day in day out and not re-investing a penny into the rooms to make it better. This is not even 50 CHF worth. And not even the central location can rescue it.

Yelp
I have been traveling about once a month to St. Gallen for the past 1.5 years for part-time MBA courses. I am usually there from 3 to 5 nights and Weisses Kreuz is 100% my hotel / hostel of choice for my stays (in fact, I'm even booked for all the dates I know in the next 9 months to make sure I get a room). Why is it my hotel of choice in St. Gallen? Well, there are a few reasons: (1) Switzerland (St. Gallen included) is freaking expensive (!!!) and Weisses Kreuz is the cheapest overnight in the city. (2) it's Clean!!! I have a really big phobia of dirty hotel rooms and am extremely grossed out by any remnants of previous guests in my room. The rooms are very simple, but clean - no old dirty carpeting, only floors they can wash every day and simple white sheets and towels. Don't expect any extra frills (besides the big new flat screen TVs in each room) but it is for sure adequate. Also, they have hair dryers at the front desk if you ask. (3) Super FRIENDLY and accommodating staff / owners! I cannot say enough about the staff! The first time I went there it was August and I was on the top floor. I arrived on a Sunday and when I realized how hot the room was, I asked for a fan (not typical to have a fan or A/C in Europe). The owner's wife actually went home and brought me a fan from their house since all the stores were closed and they didn't have any extras. There was also another time where my room was hot, all the fans were given out, so the owner went and bought another fan during the day to make sure it was in my room when I came home from class. They have never made me feel like my requests are bothersome or annoying, they just always try to accommodate. (4) Nice breakfast. The breakfast is simple, but nice. Fresh bread, fresh croissant, yogurt, cereal, meats & cheeses, orange juice and coffee or tea. You can even have a cappuccino or espresso. Nice way to start the day. Now they negative side: - Noise: Ground floor is a bar, plus it's on a "party street" in SG: The weekends can be extremely loud, extremely late! If you are a light sleeper or cannot sleep with earplugs in, then I would not recommend staying on Thurs to Saturday night. Although, the rooms facing the backside, if you request one, are a bit quieter, but still not absoutely quiet. - Toilets are in the hallway (unless you're in the suite). There is one toilet per floor, which is OK since there are max 4 rooms per floor. However, you are sharing a toilet! - Most rooms do not have a shower, but there is at least 1 room with a shower inside of it. The showers are also one per floor. However, they are separate from the toilet and I've never had a problem with having to wait to shower. Both are typically very clean and are cleaned once a day. Except, it does depend on who else is sharing these facilities - I've also had "dirty" neighbors too. :-( - Basic: If you're looking to have a "fancy" room or hotel feel, this is not the place for you. It feels a bit in between a hostel and a hotel. To summarize, if you're looking to save money on accommodations and aren't looking for anything fancy, then this is the place for you. For the price in the area, it's a great value and I am happy to have found it!
