These Hotels Are Making Remarkable Contributions to Their Local Communities, and Travelers Are Taking Notice

"Opened in December 2021, the hotel in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane had the hallmarks of a modern boutique: sleek, minimalist décor with pops of color, a rooftop bar serving creative, Spanish-influenced gin and tonics, and a guest app recommending nearby shops (including a chic menswear store a block away). It distinguishes itself most notably through the Youth Xcellence Program, an initiative for high school students pursuing hospitality: Hotel X has hosted 15 students for full-day immersions, advanced some into paid work experience in human resources, sales, and marketing, and plans a third phase of in-depth, paid vocational training conducted on site. The property is part of IHG’s Vignette Collection, which aims to blend responsibility, community, and locality for the next generation of luxury travelers." - Chadner Navarro Chadner Navarro Chadner Navarro is a writer and editor who specializes in travel, food, design, and culture. Hotel X Brisbane Fortitude Vly (Brisbane, Queensland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Fortitude Valley may sound like the name of a cowboy film or a remote western outpost; in fact it’s a hip and vibrant suburb of Brisbane, full of upscale shops and restaurants, and home to Hotel X Brisbane Fortitude Valley, an unmistakably modern concrete-and-glass structure that towers over its mid-rise surroundings. Aesthetically, it’s got all the panache of a one-off boutique hotel whose rakish style is its calling card. As it happens, it’s a member of IHG’s Vignette Collection, the edgier, more design-oriented arm of the InterContinental Hotels Group empire." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel was beautiful and the room itself was great. Unfortunately I had quite a few problems while staying only 2 nights here. Being a local my long distance partner surprised me by purchasing a hotel room here for a weekend. First arriving it had said the car park was full and I was fortunate enough to find somewhere else to park and not pay so much in parking. Checking in they asked for my card although my partners was on file and asked to use mine for the $200 deposit. I had asked my partner about their charges and they received a random $20 fee which the manager couldn’t even able to tell us what it was for. My partner also surprised me with some expensive prosecco which ended up being charged on mine then theirs on file. I had to call to have trays taken multiple times waiting hours through my day and no one arriving. I ended up needing to pay for parking on my last night and paid $40 but in leaving the car park was charged another $50, $90 for 1 night in the car park I called and discussed at length the issue and not having my deposit returned despite leaving the room as I found it. It’s been several days with no refund on my deposit or my extra parking charge now amounting to several hundred dollars to almost $1000 for a $650 night stay but have been charged since. As lovely as the hotel itself was I will not be returning to an establishment who charges without explanation and fails to return the mistaken funds in an orderly time.

For the price point we were disappointed. While the sound proofing was good the bed was soft, the room small & for a king room the facilities were average. The staff were lack lustre (particularly given a room here is upwards of $500/night) we had problems with the room & restaurant charges & seemingly no one was able to assist, the manager was consistently “unavailable” & we are still waiting for a resolution (after a number of calls) more than 30 days later - completely unacceptable for a hotel that claims to be of this calibre. The rooftop bar & restaurant were lovely but the compete disconnect between the two has tainted the experience. We absolutely won’t be staying here again.

Decent hotel let badly down by poor breakfast service. The hotel was very busy so the first two mornings there was a buffet service. The first morning was so badly organised with items not in the right position, paper cups for coffee etc. The second morning things were better organised but the third morning they went to an a la carte service which I presume is their standard service. They were clearly understaffed as things took an age and I walked out as my tea never came despite me chasing up. The food was excellent however. The roof top bar was excellent with great views. I ate here one night but wouldn’t recommend as it was dark and you couldn’t see your food. My room and bathroom were nice however friends in a twin room said it was squashed.

Had such a great experience here on the weekend. Was greeted by such lovely staff, along with a very clean, spacious room. They gave us a early check in to our room, which was the cherry on top. The pool/rooftop is beautiful, and the bar served delicious cocktails. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Brisbane and after a stunning hotel!!

Stayed at Hotel X Brisbane and was very impressed. The rooms are modern, stylish and full of clever, well-thought-out touches – from funky design features to high-quality amenities that made the stay really comfortable. But the real standout was the service. The front desk staff were polite, friendly and extremely accommodating throughout my stay. As an IHG One member, I was offered a late check-out, which made all the difference ahead of a long-haul evening flight – a much-appreciated chance to freshen up and relax. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cool, comfortable and guest-focused stay in Brisbane.

Check in was an absolute delight with a glass of Verve on arrival. 🥂🥂I think there was a promotion at the time.|Staff were attentive & very friendly upon check-in.||The premises is in a great location, within walking distance to Brunswick St Mall for a bit of nightlife or a nice stroll to shopping & the foodie scene on James Street or you can head up the hill (not too strenuous) & grab an elevator down to Howard Smith Wharves for a chilled arvo/night enjoying all that’s on offer.||The room was nicely decorated and very spacious. The bed and pillows were just what you want to fall into of a night to enjoy a great sleep. Karl Lagerfield amenities in the bathroom, what more could you possibly need!!||Did I mention their Rooftop Bar ”Iris”….this place is awesome!!!! With a DJ busting out some great tunes & food that is so delicious you don’t need to dine anywhere else.||Would definitely recommend staying here & we will return on our next visit to Brisbane.

We had a two week stay here for work and it was really nice. Rooms were clean, modern equipment like automated light settings, curtains and TV that supported chromecasting from the phone. Shower was very nice, staff were all friendly and it's only a 10 minute walk from fortitude valley station so central to the area. Would request to stay here again if travelling for work or visiting the area.

Bathrooms are not as clean as they look in the photos. Lots of mould and grime build up in the shower. considering the room prices I would Expect better. The balcony rooms are only On level 1 which has a lot of road noise & no view. Overall was not happy with this hotel, based on the reviews and price I was shocked. I’ve never left a bad review before but this hotel has really frustrated me! The sheets smelt damp and musky like they hadn’t been dried properly. Just overall not good enough. Close to James st which is good.
