Mixed Experience – Friendly Staff but Several Issues
I recently stayed at Zen Hotel Torremolinos and had a very mixed experience.
On the positive side:
Around 75% of the staff were friendly, helpful, and did their best to listen and assist whenever possible. Housekeeping came every day to make the bed and change the towels — though they did not change the bedsheets during our stay, which was disappointing. The general cleanliness of the room and common areas was good.
The pool area is also nice and well-maintained. However, it closes at 8 PM, which feels too early, especially in the summer. It would be much better if guests could access the pool or at least sit around it in the evenings to enjoy the atmosphere both day and night.
Unfortunately, several issues affected our stay negatively:
For two days, there were power outages during the daytime for several hours, which meant no AC during hot weather. Our food in the minibar was spoiled and had to be thrown away.
When I politely asked the receptionist about the situation, her response was, “It’s not our problem. We contacted the electricity provider for a solution.” She showed no apology or empathy, which was disappointing.
The Wi-Fi barely worked throughout the stay — constantly connecting and disconnecting, which made even sending messages difficult.
The power outlet near the bed was broken and was never fixed.
The room was much smaller than advertised in the online photos, with no side table or coffee table. Although we were offered a water boiler upon request, there were no cups, tea, or coffee provided — a small gesture that would have gone a long way.
The walls were very thin, and we could clearly hear guests in neighboring rooms, especially when they were using the bathroom. The bathroom air vent was also extremely loud, sounding like a train.
These negative aspects affected our stay negatively, especially considering we were only there for five days.
The hotel has potential — mainly due to its cleanliness and the kind staff members — but it really needs to improve on the service, communication, and basic amenities to offer guests the quality they expect.
