Hotel Zócalo Centro

"How did it strike you on arrival? The entrance, just off the hustle and bustle of Zócalo, Mexico City's central square, is inviting and functional, with a traditional reception desk and a small café. Nice. What’s the crowd like? The clientele is a mix of casually dressed international business and leisure travelers. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The rooms are small but comfortable. With pretty views of, say, an early twentieth-century building, yours will likely be a quiet refuge after a day of crowded sightseeing. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Beds are also small but comfortable; expect a tight squeeze for two. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? There is no minibar, but rather a coffee-maker and a few cookies (in addition to a different Mexican candy on your pillow each night). Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The bathrooms are standard but have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? The Wi-Fi is good and most importantly, gratis. Room service: Worth it?Resist the urge to order room service; the rooftop restaurant, Balcón del Zócalo, is what makes a stay here truly special. It has one of the best views of Zócalo and the guacamole is prepared tableside. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Watching the buzz of Mexico's huge main square from above, while sipping margaritas and nibbling on traditional Mexican cuisine. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The location can't be beat: Step outside the hotel and you're in the heart of the city. Bottom line: worth it, and why?If you want a nice, safe hotel in the middle of the action (and you've got money to burn), this is for you." - Susannah Rigg

My stay at the Amigo Hotel took place May 05, 2017. I paid a total of 132.68 for four days or 'I mean it was a bargain. First, the first out point on this trip was that it was not easy for the taxi driver to find the address of the hotel. He was guided and if not bad memory by Waze Social GPS Maps & Traffic. The point is that we arrived and as soon as we were checked, the room was shown to us. The room was flowered tile, had a soft bed with two pillows, blanket, two bottles of a liter of water, but, this, for the first day because on the second day, they give you water, but only if you order it. In the bathroom: shower and tub, good sized mirror for shaving and / or plucking eyebrows, soap, shampoo, skin lotion, enough towels and plenty of hot water. the hotel only had two windows: one window in the bathroom that was inaccessible and the other in the bedroom and overlooking the street. This caused us much trouble because "the ambulantaje" or rather in Nahuatl the "tiangista" businessmen who suddenly sit on the street and start promoting what they sell, shouting.businessmen also as the hotel is next to a super market that is supplied with merchandise at dawn did not allow our rest. On the other hand, I liked the customer service and the breakfast that was very authentic. Hotel Amigo is surrounded by history so it was very easy to visit some museums, clubs and some prestigious shops such as the Palacio de Hierro which by the way the liter of water is very cheap and of good quality-all this walking distances. Customer service at the hotel was super.

The stars were no doubt earned by checking enough boxes but without much notice of its overall quality and comfort. It is well located, near the Cathedral and the Zocalo metro station, but mostly pedestrian Moneda street is bustling during the day and creepy quiet at night when the shops are shuttered and street vendors gone. There are no convenient cafes or restaurants. The building across the street is a Government office and we were woken to the sound of a noisy demonstration.||The room was very small, perhaps 10 feet square, with no hanging space and little luggage capacity. We were only given two towels, but the bathroom had no hooks, towel rods or shelves anyway. No bath mats on the floor. No hot water in the sink; the shower was fine. No cups or plastic glasses for the sink. Wifi erratic. Breakfast was basic. The cost was low, demonstrating the old saying, "you get etc..." but the next time, we'll happily move up.

Never again disgusting. The main reason I stayed at Hotel Amigo Zocalo is it was very close to the Zocalo and it offered a shuttle service to and from the airport. This was a total joke, I called the hotel to book the shuttle and they gave me a number to call who it turned out was Amigo tours same company. When I called they could not find my reservation I called the hotel back who gave me the reservation code and they still could not find it after about 11/2 hrs on the phone they finally got it straightened up. When I got to the airport there was a lady there with a sign from Amigos tours, She was waiting for some other people also after about 20 min of waiting there she asked us to follow here with all our bags we walked about ½ a mile and waited there for another 45 minutes for the shuttle. The shuttle was so disorganized they didn’t know if they were coming or going. When we got about a block from the hotel the driver pulled my bags out and I had to walk about a block with everything was very uncomfortable. The rooms in the hotel were disgusting there was blood in my sink, freezing cold water in the shower (no hot water at all), you have to go back to the lobby to get towels as there were no towels in the room, bed mattresses had plastic on them and very thick hard pillows, the window wouldn’t lock, I was worried to leave my things. The walls are like paper thin you can hear people talking in the lobby like you were in the lobby, didn’t sleep at all that night and had to catch an early flight out. Thank god the shuttle was on time and went straight to the airport. Big warning to anyone who is thinking of staying here the pictures on the site is very deceiving.

Location is great for the Zocolo but the accommodation is one star. Room was clean but as mentioned previously very very noisy all night long. Hard bed, very poor decoration. Booked for two nights but might only stay one if we can see everything today.

Prior to booking I did my research checking reviews on here and the location, I expected a basic hotel but very well located.||I have to say I personally was impressed because what the hotel may lack in amenities and luxuries it more than makes up for in location and service! ||||Lovely, helpful people on reception whom I tipped several times just because I was impressed they always remembered me, my room number and just assisted me with everything they could! ||||Breakfast is basic but for the price anything I think is great but it’s still nice and changes daily, on top of that it’s served on a lovely terrace overlooking the historic zocalo.||||I will definitely be returning but most likely book direct as on this trip it was actually my UK travel agent that initial messed up the booking upon arrival 😱||||Muchas gracias hotel amigo zocalo I look forward to seeing you when I return!

It was a comfortable stay. They were accommodating to 2 extra family members that tagged along with us. The breakfast was delicious. The only thing I didn't like was that we had leave our room key every time we left the building.

We stayed there for three nights to explore Mexico City. It’s located next to the main square, what makes it easy to just walk through the city center. Our room was a bit small, but it was clean and well equipped. Nice rooftop breakfast area :) There’s a busy street just in front of the hotel which offer various shops.

The noisiest hotel ever. They make noise 24/7. It's unbearable. The elevator looks like a death trap. The rooms smell like dust, they're tiny, there are mosquitos, there's no sun light coming in at all. Breakfast is included but it starts at 8 am when you're already gone to work. And they have a sign that says that it's a family hotel and you should keep it down but there's music playing all day, banging on walls or something and people talking very loudly all the time.
