My wife and I recently endured an extremely disappointing stay at Hotel Zurbriggen in Zermatt.
Our journey commenced on an unfortunate note when our train was delayed due to the dreadful weather. Admittedly, this is not the hotel's fault. However, there were distinct announcements at the train station regarding the delay of several trains. Mysteriously, the hotel shuttle driver made no effort to obtain this information and simply departed without waiting for us. We then sent a message to the hotel when we arrived, but the response from the front desk was agonizingly sluggish. This left us in a state of uncertainty and frustration.
As we awaited the driver in the cold and rainy weather, it was an extremely uncomfortable ordeal. We were left shivering. To add to our woes, when we finally had no alternative but to take a public bus to reach the hotel, we then received their response.
There was still an approximately four-minute walk after we got off from the bus. Due to the weather and having our suitcases with us, it took us longer. Upon our arrival, there was no apology from the front desk staff, as if nothing had ever happened.
Moreover, we had booked a mountain-view room, anticipating a serene and natural landscape. Instead, we were met with a view of a construction site. The sight completely shattered our expectations. People do not travel across the globe to see this in Switzerland!
We requested to be transferred to another room if possible, but were unsurprisingly refused. Apparently, it could only be done if we agreed to pay about 100 CHF more to upgrade. It should be noted that this is not a budget hotel.
The staff presented us with a QR code in the room, which we could scan to request breakfast to be delivered to our room the next morning. We requested it for 06:45 as we were planning to go on a hike. However, by 7 o'clock, we still had not received our breakfast. After waiting in vain, I called the front desk. The hotel staff asked us to go downstairs to eat. Only when we insisted that we had reserved breakfast did the hotel finally deliver it to our room.
Such a service experience has left us deeply disappointed. We chose to reserve breakfast delivery to the room to enjoy a more convenient and comfortable morning. The hotel failed to fulfill its promise on time, which not only wasted our time but also caused unnecessary disruptions to our schedule.
We did not finish our breakfast, barely touched it. We planned to go out for the view first and then return for it. By the time we got back, everything had already been cleared away. How efficient! The staff did not even ask and just removed everything.
By the way, the construction site workers began working at half past seven. For those who desire to relax in a hotel, this is not the place for you. Overall, I would strongly caution against staying at Hotel Zurbriggen.
Most aspects were unacceptable. I expect a much higher level of service and attention to detail from a hotel that has a 4.9-star rating on Google. We hope the hotel will take our incident seriously, improve and refine the service process to ensure that similar situations do not occur for other guests.
We do not wish to receive a response from the hotel or to be compensated. The above is all genuine feedback from me. It is the worst hotel we have stayed at during our Swiss trip.
