We stayed at Hotell Bondeheimen on the 1st day of our trip in Norway (22nd December) and then flew out to other cities ending our trip a week later back in Oslo, in Hotell Bondeheimen(on 28th December) ||We accidentally left our passport pouch that also contained all our currency (500 euros and 6000 NOK) in our room’s SAFE at the hotel. As soon as we discovered this (within a few hours of our checkout), we panicked and called the hotel. We explained the situation to the gentleman who picked up the phone, Yvegen (not sure whether this spelling is correct, but it was pronounced like this), who said he was sending someone to retrieve our stuff. We called back, by then he had the pouch in his hand, he opened it and confirmed that the passports and Euros were there. The hotel kept the pouch in their safe and promised the return of all the contents when we would revisit the hotel near the end of our trip, in 6 days time. They also let us know that the hotel was shutting down for Christmas for 3 days and everything would be kept safely. ||After such an assurance, anyone would expect and trust a decent hotel to keep one’s valuables safe. As we had trusted the hotel completely, explained our situation to them and our pouch was retrieved straight from the rooms safe by the housekeeping manager, we expected all its contents to be returned to us. However, when we received our pouch, we opened it to check it at the reception itself and were horrified to see that the 6000 NOK was missing. This was such a big amount for us and this loss really shook us up. ||Naturally, we were quite worried but the hotel did nothing to placate our fears, instead, they proved to be one of the most unhelpful set of staff I have ever encountered. Not only did they continually change their stories and contradict themselves, they did not let us speak to the people in charge or the ones that had handled our items. Camille manning front desk on 28th night said it was too late to do anything and they had cameras everywhere so we could request for help in the morning. On 29th morning, Yvegen denied ever having spoken to us, which was impossible as we had no way of knowing the name of a staff member if he had not mentioned it and when we spoke to him, we recorded it. The assistant reception manager Emil said that they couldn’t do anything; even though there are a lot of cameras on each floor, they couldn’t even check the security footage as it is not permitted by law and told us to go lodge a police complaint. They couldn’t call the reception manager or the housekeeping manager because they were on a holiday and “could not be disturbed”.||It was a Sunday and we had to fly out of Norway within a few hours, we contacted the police who said that the likelihood of any footage being checked was very low and our best bet was to get the hotel to cooperate for a quick resolution. We approached the front desk again and requested them to contact the person who had supposedly retrieved the pouch, but we were met with the same resistance.||||A small mention that in the freezing December temperatures of Oslo even the heating in the room was not working, when we told this to Camille at the front desk she said hotel is packed, no room we could be shifted to and said we can use a heater in the room. so the rooms do need maintenence|| ||ALL IN ALL, WE WERE FLEECED OF A VERY BIG SUM OF 6000 NOK, WHICH WASN’T JUST LEFT LYING AROUND in the ROOM BUT, WAS IN THE HOTEL SAFE IN A BAG.
