Hotell Hilda

The staff were life-savers! They are all so friendly. All speak English very well. Check in is different from an American chain so plan ahead to be in hotel restaurant by 20:00, it make easy arrangements. The rim was so quaint and beautiful. Breakfast was so traditional. I loved it. I've missed Kalmar and it was good to make a visit back and stay at this lovely place. Wi-Fi is very slow and weak, but I didn't need much

Good location in the city, even if not perfectly central. Several restaurants around the hotel which has itself a restaurant. The reception ladies (same as bar) were nice. Room was good, interesting to see the old heating system inside. Had a good night sleep. Breakfast was good. The price is a bit high as there are no real extras, not even tea and kettle or fridge in room. The breakfast buffet area is tight. Noise at 8 in the morning in the interior courtyard. The paintings in the room can be a bit spooky or unsettling especially for kids (black and white, girl looking over the corner, old people in the bed with eyes closed looking perhaps dead).

Rooms are really nice and clean. Hotel staff is very cooperative. We arrived late at night so keys were left in self service box but instructions were really well written. I couldn’t thank the woman who helped us in person. Breakfast is also delicious!

Small in a good way. Our room was very quiet (good for our jet lagged arrival), even on the Saturday night when there was a crowd in the adjoining pizza place. Do try the pizza here, as well as the included breakfast. Do note: you'll enter and check in through the pizza place. They'll know exactly what to do. There's a side entrance hotel guests can use after hours or when it's busy. As the hotel is in an older building, it's not wheelchair accessible. There are steps and stone walkways on the way in.

We stayed one night in a standard room at Hildas. The room was cozy but still modern. Each room seemed to be differently themed. ||The staff was super friendly and relaxed. Breakfast was lighter than you're used to in sweden. But still good and sensible in a smaller hotel. ||The room was a bit small and was also a bit warm. Something was a bit off with the ventilation.

We found Hotell Hilda to be the best accommodations of our 21 day driving adventure through Scandinavia. Hotell Hilda is a charming old place within easy walking distance to the "Gamla Stan" (old city) district of Kalmar. The castle, Kalmar Slott, is also an easy walk from Hilda. The service and breakfast buffet were both excellent. The selection of gluten free and lactose free items was very nice too as my wife has celiacs and it made it easy for her. ||Johan, the restaurant manager, which is attached to the hotel and is excellent, was very personable and helpful. We found the owner, Richard and his wife, Hilda, (the hotel's namesake) to be be equally warm and welcoming. ||The place is not a 5-star resort if that's what you're looking for, but it is a charming old jewel, family owned and clean, warm and friendly. Our room, #1, was fairly spacious with a nice sitting area and many widows that you could open in the evening for a nice breeze. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Hotell Hilda!

The Hotel Hilda is a good choice for Kalmar - a very reasonable walk from the town center and castle and this also made it very easy to drive in and out of town - it would make a great base for the area. We wished we had some more time - we only had the one night, but should have made it at least two with the town being so nice, the amazing castle, Oland right across the bridge, the glassworks between Kalmar and Vaxjo etc... And the restaurant looks really nice - they close a bit early, so we didn't make it back in time, but they were firing up the grill as we were heading out to explore town, and it smelled great. Breakfast was nice - especially having it out in the garden with the wonderful weather. ||We really liked our room - it was upstairs, and large with a nice breeze from the windows. Pretty simple, but comfortable, clean, and quiet. We didn't have any issues checking in - we got to town a bit late, so checked in after visiting (closing) the castle, and everyone at Hotel Hilda was very friendly and accommodating when we arrived. We parked on the street with no issues.

The 2 things I first judge a hotel on are the staff and the cleanliness. The staff is outstanding and the bathroom and bedroom immaculate. Our rooms were up a steep flight of stairs and overlooking the street. They were noisy with the windows open and a bit stuffy if they were closed. That would be the only negatives regarding the hotel but wouldn’t stop me from returning. Next time I’d ask for a room farther from the street. Still, It was an easy walk from here to Kalmar Slott and the harbor. Thank you Eva for making our visit so much fun!
