We stopped at this hotel for some tea, during our long bus travel. IT was quite cold outside with snow all around. ||||Coming inside and having very hot tea / coffee was much needed break for us and we enjoyed it a lot. The hotel provided us the complimentary cakes and we loved it a lot. IT was quite tasty. The cookies were tasty too. I still remember the taste of heart shaped biscuit. mmmm yummy.....||||Seating was quite good. We sat by the side of window so that we can have a beautiful view of snow-clad ambience, houses, road etc., while having the nice hot coffee.||||We loved the overall ambience, the hotel and most importantly their service and hospitality.||||We had enough photo opportunities inside the hotel and outside in its vicinity.||||The toilets were clean.||||Highly recommended halt.

Stayed three days in late May on business. Seems typical of smaller Scandinavian hotels, except that it is located in I guess what would be the western equivalent of a community centre.||Check-in was done for me - was handed the key by my local hosts - check-out was fast and efficient. Rooms were small but clean. Bathroom (shower only) was basic but clean.||Buffet breakfast (included) in adjoining restaurant was adequate.||For winter travelers there is a car park with block heater plug-ins. Standard fare for those who live where they are used, but perhaps not so for others.||The restaurant also does an evening buffet and the kitchen doubles as the local pizza take-out. Pizzas were good - pretty typical selection. Beer is available, as well as a small selection of other drinks. Large screen TV for sports events shared with local enthusiasts.||As with most hotels in Scandinavia, there is an indoor sauna, and this one also has an outdoor sauna with plunge tub. I didn't use either.||My only real complaint is that the bedroom window coverings, in my room at least on the north side were ineffective in keeping out the light and heat of the midnight sun. Didn't sleep well as a result, but to be expected that far north, I suppose.||Neat and tidy - apparently one of the best in town, and no complaints.

I was in a 4-day long drive, so I just stopped for a night. The most important thing was to find a place to stay with my dog, with late check-in and breakfast. The room was nice and large with modern furnitures, the bathroom also looked new. The breakfast was simple but enough, the staff were nice. I got what I expected.

Not only was the hotel lacking in service and hospitality but also the hygienic circumstances were terrible. The tables in the dining and breakfast area were dirty and the floors were covered in dust and crumbs. Not to forget about the pizza crust lying on the floor and the hair in the joghurt I had for breakfast. Additionally, the mattresses were uncomfortably soft. The only positive aspect worth mentioning was the "tea station" in the rooms.

We didn't stay in Hotel Smedjan proper. Our rooms were in a block across the road from Hotel Smedjan building. It seemed to have just been renovated. The rooms were a good size, beds were comfortable, there was a shared kitchen you could use, WiFi was great, parking was out the front, we had breakfast at the hotel which was fresh and had a good range of choices.

OK, it's not the Ritz, but you are in Pajala! The food in the restaurant is poor and you can only get frozen pizzas after 8PM, but the beer is cold and the friendly owner really does his best. The raw material does not give him much to work with! The sauna with the wood burning stove and the wood burning hot tub out back are FANTASTIC and there is no extra charge! It is the best thing about Pajala! Have a sauna. Eat the weird pizza (taco sauce on pizza? really?). Drink a few beers. Mix with the rustic locals. Watch a football game on the big screen tv. Chat with the owner. Pajala isn't so bad.....

Yesterday I had the unplesant experience to stay one night at Smedjan in Pajala, never gain.||However, there was no other choice late in the evening.||||The total "milieu" remaines about a film from the former East Europe by entrance.||The rooms are rather large but the quality of the equipment is very low.||Moreover the bathroom, the towels seems to be from the 1950's..........................||- but there was not more than ONE small one pr. person.||||The brakfast satarted very early with the taired personell from Asia.||So was the bread looking as well, - perhaps transported from China.||||In general a real clean up seems needed. As a medical doctor who was traveling together in our company the hygenic standard is below the admitted level!!!!!!!||||The languages skills of the staff was realy low.||By the check out the dialogue was not plesant.||Moreover the ratio between QUality and Price, 1390 SEK for a spartanic room in former East European comminist setting is totally out of order.||A warning for other gueste.||||PS - luckly we did not used the Thai/Chinees "restaurant".........................||However the beer was rather warm and the coffe more cold than hot.||||A very nice area as the Tornedalen deserve better accomdation possibilities.||||Have a nice summer.||||Best European regards,||||||Thomas

This is a nice, low-key hotel along the main highway. A wonderful breakfast buffet is included. When the hotel is full, you may be able to get a room in the hotel's additional (new) rooms on the other side of the highway (called "City Bed").
