Houmas House Estate and Gardens

We explored the grounds and gardens in late Feb before things were blooming. But the low foliage showed the house and sculptures to good effect. And there were some buds and early blooms. The paved paths made it easy to get around, especially for mobility impaired folks. This is a GREAT location for photographers, especially for folks doing nature work. The full tour including the house interior is kind of pricey. The gift shop is extensive with very interesting prints. There is lots of other things from trinkets to major fixtures.

We are staying here for 2 nights in B4, w a patio. Room is fantastic, we have eaten here 2 days-bar is great and restaurant reminds me of King Charles b n b in north Scotland and the restaurant that is part of the Broadmoor up above Colorado Springs-very happy w the Manhattans and food. we love the grounds,the tour of the house was very good, but the museum -2 hours we spent in there, very well done and the history - loved it, loved it all. We have travelled to over 50 countries- we thoroughly enjoyed this

We had a wonderful day here. The tour of the house was educational and enjoyable. The house is filled with original items which is such a rarity for such a location as this. One of the members of our group was is in their 80's and the staff was so helpful, letting them use the elevator in the house to get to the second floor and getting us a golf cart with driver to take us around the garden and to the carriage house restaurant. The carriage house restaurant was wonderful for dinner, a lively dining area yet somehow not overwhelming. The staff were attentive and professional.

Extremely Disappointed — Not the Experience We Expected My fiancée and I stayed here over Valentine’s weekend, spending close to $1,000 for one night, expecting a special and memorable experience. Unfortunately, what we received was quite the opposite. The bar service was shockingly unprofessional. When I politely asked for a specific liquor, the bartender simply shook her head and gave me a dismissive look, as if my request was an inconvenience. There was no explanation, no courtesy — just attitude. It set a negative tone right away. The guided tour was even more upsetting. As we approached, the guide greeted us by asking where we were from. When we answered “Hammond,” he responded with, “Oh, that explains it.” We were taken aback and unsure what that was meant to imply, but it immediately felt disrespectful. During the tour, my fiancée needed to step away briefly to use the restroom. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism and discretion, the guide called her out in front of the group in a way that was not playful, but embarrassing and dismissive. It was uncomfortable for everyone present and left her in tears. It felt as though a simple human need was treated as a personal inconvenience to him. We could not help but wonder how elderly guests or families with children would be treated if they required similar accommodations. After the experience, we contacted ownership directly to express our concerns and give them the opportunity to respond. Unfortunately, we have received no response. We chose this property to celebrate a special occasion and left feeling embarrassed and disrespected. We truly hope management takes customer service and guest treatment more seriously in the future.

I was out exploring Ascension Parish with my longtime Navy friend and made Houmas House and the Great River Road Museum our historic/educational stop as we always do on our visits. I’ve been learning about things I never knew on this side of the Mississippi over the past 3 years since moving here. I was well-acquainted with the Acadian and prairie side of the Atchafalaya Basin and want to learn more of the roots in my chosen new home. Sharing it with a great friend is the bonus. We stopped and explored the museum and house that was chock full of interesting artifacts and historical accounting. It was interesting to see how many of the original family names still permeate the place names and roads. I discovered some interesting facts about a friend’s family history. I’ve just begun to explore the River Road and its hidden gems. It’s changed so much since 1989 when I first traversed its path. Sadly necessary history (good or bad but needs recounted) is slowly being lost to the ravages of weather and industry, so exploring these gems and the small towns like the historic Donaldsonville (which we visited the day prior) are worth a stop to slow down and pause to reflect on where we’ve been juxtaposed to how far we’ve come and where we’re headed. These places should make you feel something so that we remember and never fall into that mindset again. Humanity is better than its dark past and sadly our shaky present. But only together can we all rise for a better tomorrow.

An incredible place to say the least. Everything was great; the house, the tour, the gardens, the wild turkeys, the swans, and the enormous live oak tree next to the pond. Take your time seeing everything. They have a large gift shop as well.

We had time to tour while waiting for an evening flight and found Houmas House (actually a plantation) along the banks of the Mississippi River. It was once a sugar cane plantation, but is now an excellent museum that is well worth your time visiting. The gardens and grounds were amazing. The house tour was excellent and helped give a good perspective on plantation life. The tour is well your time and the entrance fee.

Very beautiful grounds to walk around. I was shocked by the high prices though. A 30min house tour and self guided garden tour for one adult and one 10 year old cost us $54! I did a much better plantation tour last year with multiple buildings for under $10! I guess it is because it is privately owned. Overall, I am glad my 10 year old enjoyed it almost as much as I did.

What an absolutely phenomenal place to stay. Beautiful grounds, delicious food, great service. We will be back, just amazing. Hotel rivals the Ritz's we have stayed in and just a great price. Enjoy! And definitely plan to stay here. SO MUCH BETTER than staying in downtown New Orleans if that is your choice

We went last Saturday for a birthday party. Absolutely beautiful! We had an incredible tuna tartare as a starter, then the chicken with rosemary sauce, it was delicious, I wish it had more sauce because it was absolutely exquisite. My husband ordered a red velvet cheesecake and he said it was very good. This place is a gem! Best service, great food and amazing environment.

Spent a couple days here to attend a weeding and enjoyed the grounds, restaurants, and River Road. Very unique lodging. Great place to host a small or larger event. Dixie restaurant open for breakfast buffet that is 5 star and lunch. Carriage house restaurant is a fancy or fancy casual and food is very good. Bar is very unique. Historic property from early 1800s. It has a museum but we didn't get time to visit. Lodging is small connected houses approximately one hundred meters from the restaurants and museum. Very nicely appointed and comfortable. Not inexpensive at about $350 per night. Riverboats dock here on Friday and Sunday.

Beautiful plantation home with guided house tours. Gardens are lush. Nice gift shop. Museum next door that we did not have time to do.

So nice to find a fully accessible wheelchair tourist place. Beautifully landscaped and the employees were so accommodating. We ate at the buffet which was a beautiful setting with the employees being helpful and accommodating. We did not do the house tour cause I did not think my mom could do the time but I was told it was handicapped accessible with elevator. With our meal purchase we were able to tour the grounds free which was perfect for my mom. The ladies in the gift shop were very nice and helpful. I fully recommend a visit. Worth the time to stop and enjoy. Thank you to everyone at Houmas.

Dinner at The Carriage House was a wonderful dining experience Our server Hunter did an outstanding job with great recommendations, prompt and attentive service and very personable. Looking forward to going back soon.

Pretty ! We popped In for a quick minute , saw the grounds and walked the bridge . Grounds are very well maintained . The sky bridge leads across the street to the Mississippi River

Houmas House is definitely worth the visit. The grounds are beautiful and equally as impressive as the house. All of the employees ... from the grounds people to the housekeepers and restaurant staff were super friendly and helpful. We stayed at the cottages on the grounds and ate at Latil's. We had a five course meal that was one of the best meals I have eaten. The owner of the house, who did not identify himself as the owner, actually gave the group in front of mine a tour of the house. I only knew he was the owner after I did some Google research. We did not visit the museum on the grounds but it looked like it would have been worth it. You won't be disappointed with a stop at the Houmas House

Amazing. So many photo opportunities! Historical site with restaurants and national beauty.

We had a wonderful stay for 3 days and 2 nights. The food was beyond our expectations, the cottages were comfortable and all the amenities were there, the grounds were beautiful and fun to explore. We will definitely be back.

Did the tour with Jennifer. She was a wealth of knowledge and we learned so much about the history of the house and the surrounding area. Highly recommend going on the tour and seeing the museum as well. Had a nice lunch at the Dixie Cafe and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Houmas House!

Two things to tour here. The Museum was a great surprise. Well done. Variety of featured informative exhibits. And all of the furniture was absolutely jaw dropping.The gardens are beautiful with sculptures and swans and peacocks. The Houma house itself was gorgeous. Our tour guide was well versed in the history of the house and very funny.

We enjoyed the tour and the grounds were beautiful. We did feel it was a bit over priced for the one hour tour. 25.00 would have been nice There was 10.00 tax added to the 70 for two, so we paid 80.00. Over all a very enjoyable visit.

This is one of my favorite local plantations. Not only are the tours great but the property itself is gorgeous and it has a very cool bar (Turtle bar) and restaurants : The Carriage House (lunch, dinner, kid friendly, reservation's recommended), Latil's Landing (fine dining, reservations required), Dixie Cafe (breakfast, lunch, dinner, kid friendly, buffet, no reservations needed) I personally love getting a couple drinks at Turtle bar and walking around or/and taking a tour (they let you take your drinks in the tour!) This property is beautiful. There's a bridge you can walk across to see the Mississippi River as well, which I recommend! There's also an inn that you can stay in, and really enjoy the property for an extended time. If you don't stay here, they are open 7days a week!

My stars are strictly for the gardens, as the tour left a lot to be desired. While informative, as my second plantation tour since moving to the east/south, you would expect more information regarding slavery. As an African American, I expected to be educated not only on the lives of sugar barons, but also regarding the lives and general day to day of the people who's backs they became rich upon. Needless to say, I do not think that I will be visiting again, but I did enjoy the grounds immensely and our tour guide was lovely.

This plantation is amazing. I have been to see it three different times. I saw it at Christmas time in December when it was all decorated and it was just beautiful. You need to do the tour of inside the house and all of its stories, it was just breathtaking..

This was a very delightful place to visit! The mansion tour was interesting and informative. There were many fascinating artifacts to see during the tour. The grounds/gardens were beautiful and peaceful. I had lunch in the Carriage House Restaurant, which had an elegant atmosphere. The food was delicious. Lastly, I passed through the Great River Road Museum located on the grounds. The museum is very large and well put together. During the summer (when I went), I recommend visiting the grounds/gardens in the morning before the weather gets too hot. Have your camera ready because there are a LOT of great photo opportunities both outside inside the mansion!

What a beautiful place! The trees and gardens always seem to enhance a historic plantation building in Louisiana. And the history of the various owners, the house's main source of income (sugar) and the amazing additions to the house made this visit special. Our guide Darren was very knowledgeable and attentive and answered our group's questions.

During our first night and first experience in New Orleans we got some "touristy" things out of the way early. Bourbon Street is fun, but it's not exactly the scene I'm looking for anymore. We did a food tour in the French district the following day, and it was good. After the tour we took a break at our hotel, doing some research we decided to get out of the city. We wanted to experience a scenic drive and a plantation estate. Houmas House offered both. Nice receptionist who rung us up for the 4:30 mansion tour. Gave us good directions of the property and how to get to the meeting point for the tour. John did our mansion tour and he was very friendly and personable. After the tour we walked around and took pictures on the property. It was a really good time. Chickens, ducks, geese and peacocks roam the property and bunnies are settled in at the pet cemetery. The trees are gorgeous and rustic. Very very cool property. We also had dinner here and I reviewed their restaurant on site.

After moving away from Ascension Parish nearly 25 years ago, I wanted to share memories from my childhood with my husband when we returned home this Christmas. Houmas House did not disappoint!! It was better than I remembered. It is obvious the current owner Kevin has invested time and resources into the house and grounds, not to mention the addition of the amazing museum and restaurants! We have toured homes around the world and to see this jewel a few miles from my childhood home was incredible. It was also heartwarming to hear that the beautiful murals in the main foyer are the work of Craig Black, the caretaker from the '80s that is a very accomplished artist. Ruby was our tour guide today, very informative and personable. She gave the perfect mix of past and present to the tour. We look forward to stopping in on our next visit home.

An extremely well maintained and beautiful plantation. Full of exotic wildlife. (make sure to say hello to the peacock)! The house tour concerns the history of the specific building and its architecture. You aren't going to get much surrounding history of the area or how the civil war affected it from the house tour. The River Road museum by the gift shop is a must see, and has more historical information from the time of the Oumas tribe to present day about the history of the area.

I recently took a trip to Louisiana. Before we even left our home we looked at top things to do in Louisiana. This plantation was one of them. After doing the tour I would have rather skipped and saved some money. First I believe that this plantation was overpriced. It was about $95 for two adults and one child. For only the house and gardens. Also the restaurants were really pricey. We did not get a map like most of the other plantations. So it is very confusing to get around. When we did our house tour we felt weird and pretty bad. The owner lives in the mansion that you tour. It made me feel very uncomfortable that we were going to go in the room of the owner. Yes! We went into the owners bedroom! Our tour guide was not great. She would get very side tracked while talking about the rooms. Also she talked about another plantation and I don't feel like that is appropriate to talk about another successful business during a tour or even inside of the plantation. I don't think that there was enough information about the slavery on the land. I don't think that you should have to be charged more money to go see another museum. Inside the house had a different era in every room. Sometimes the room had mixed eras as well. We would have preferred a more natural and restored exhibit. You could tell that all of the money they make is put into the gardens. It is very up-kept but the house needs some repairs. Talking about your dogs is not something that is historical. I feel like it would have been more appropriate to talk a little bit more about the history of the plantation or even a little bit more about the house. I don't really think that coming here would benefit you in learning ways. I feel like there are more beautiful plantations you could go to that replicate the era.

My sister and I just had lunch here at the carriage house. Hunter was our server which was awesome. He has a brother here Parker that also works with them. We had a bisque curry, pumpkin crawfish, corn soup, which was to die for. Then we also had a roasted beet salad. Then we decided to have the diver scallops, which was a scallops that was seared with a humus beehive, honey sauce, the bomb. then we had the Cajun shrimp, avocado toast folks. You got to try it. We also had a bottle of champagne with me and a brandy Alexander. We are now sitting in the courtyard having to cosmopolitans in front of a water fountain that is just unbelievable. If you're ever in this area, please please come and experience this plantation.

Came today to celebrate my mothers birthday. The tour with Darren was great. He was full of lots of extra knowledge, when we asked questions. He was funny and had a great personality. And he was also awesome at taking our photos. And lunch at the Carriage House was a special treat. And most importantly as a wheelchair user it was %100 accessible. The house has an elevator and the grounds are all paved.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. So much history and the property was filled with stories.

I immediately need to state for the money, it was not worth it! Over the holiday, one of my children had an assignment on Native Americans and we were in town visiting family. So we decided to take day trip to one of the museums outside of New Orleans. And like I said, I specifically visited because I was looking for information on the original inhabitants, and the website alluded to there being an exhibit; this "museum" had no representation of the Choctaw Indians, which is quite sad. What they do represent are the Oumas Tribe, which is found immediately as you walk in the door and no where else. Additionally, the history on Louisiana Slavery was minimal; there was something being built in a small room in the rear of the room; we saw mannequins laid out on the floor and a small exhibit titled 'Slave Auctions in New Orleans'. In the main room, walls of information about the many plantations along the Mississippi River but nothing that cant be googled. This museum houses lots of maps. Honestly, I would describe this museum as white-washing and I'll leave it at that.

Excellent food and service. Wonderful way to celebrate 39 years of marriage. The grounds are beautiful to walk and enjoy.

A frustrating example of egregious historical revisionism. I went to both the museum & the house. Not every museum has to focus entirely on slavery, but all have a duty to address that people were enslaved there. Theirs were intertwined with the lives of their enslavers. We were brought into a gentleman's parlor. Did enslaved women and girls work in and enter the room? We were shown the kitchen as well. who worked in the kitchen? You don't have to tell us in great detail about the individuals but why can't you even say it, just in passing? I have read about &chose to come here fully informed of the content of the tour, and the fact that it does not cover slavery. I am aware. Just because this is not advertised does not excuse it. Historically revisionist&irresponsible to fill a historical house with kitschy dog paintings&random decor. The hallway depicting a mural of sugar fields is not only unattractive but also in very bad taste. Having odd memorabilia of caricatured Black people all over the house holding up fire pokers and decorating the resident's desk is extremely disrespectful. Why is there no room on the property for even ONE placard, room or statue about what life was like for the other 700+ residents?? Telling other reviewers&myself that we should go to other plantations instead is not a professional response. Sure, we can go to those other places. Sure, I believe those places are far more deserving of our money than Houmas House. But the 700+ enslaved human beings who lived and died on this plantation did not live and die on those. Why is there not even 1memorial to the Black people who lived here? I can't imagine being able to lay my head down and rest easy every night on a property where human beings were assaulted, raped, and separated from their families for generations:( now it is used for weddings and smiling family photos...tragic really. Very disappointed in humans and very sad today. Edit: I DID go to the museum. Things were misspelled. The information felt impersonal. The wax figures were unsettling and hokey. Their relationship was intertwined with the HOUSE not a side museum. Why can the tour guides not even SAY briefly that enslaved people worked in the kitchen she showed us? Why charge more money for the separate museum? Why is there no placard on the house property itself sharing people's names? This is shameful. You are allowing ignorant people to pay for the house tour alone. You know half of these people are not going to the museum. Don't be absurd. They're there for the pretty house, not the reality of it. And you help them buy into that racist, ignorant fantasy.

Probably the best plantation in Louisiana considering the houses, tour guide quality, museum, many dining choices, fantastic gardens with ancient huge oaks, and gift store. The bridge view at the Mississippi River at sunset was incredible. The tiny turtle bar is fantastic in a 200 year old tower. Most highly recommended.

Great experience walking the beautiful grounds. The Carriage House did not disappoint.

We did Oak Alley yesterday and really enjoyed it, but we enjoyed this even more! The house and grounds are amazing! If you are looking for period authenticity you will prefer Oak Alley. Houmas House just seemed more fun and accessible. While everything was not exactly period appropriate you were allowed to touch and take photos. The guide was friendly and super knowledgeable. I will admit to being a little disappointed she wasn't in a more accurate period costume, but it was still terrific!!! The grou ds are just amazing to wander! I highly recommend stopping in at the Carriage House restaurant too. The food was amazing!!!! It is also very affordable. Do t just head to the Cafe buffet. You will be missing out. The dining room is gorgeous!! We are gluten free and staff was super.

Great way to spend a day or a weekend!! The ground are beautiful & so peaceful!! We dined on a Sunday afternoon. The food, service, drinks, & ambience was amazing!

This was the last bucket list item for my grandmother and I to visit along River Road and we really did save the best for last! Some of our favorite things... -the silver Abraham Lincoln and the story! -The silver..... that was POLISHED! -the gardens.... Oh the garden! -The oaks, and the picture before -The piano -Our tour guide Ruby was wonderful! Her knowledge of the home was interesting and flowed well. She was also so hospitable and let my grandmother sit while she walked through the house. Thank you to Ruby and the Houmas House team and thank you to the owner who has opened his home to allow our family to experience its rich history!

The estate and grounds are are beautiful. There is no arguing that. However, I was disappointed and outraged that there was no mention of the contributions that black slaves made to the running of the estate. It is unlikely that Houma would be standing today without the contribution of Black people. In addition, there was barely any mention of how the property was acquired From indigenous peoples, except for a brief mention that it was purchased from them. I think it is the responsibility of establishments such as Houmas to tell and reveal the full history in all of its details no matter how painful it is. We owe this to Black Americans, and we owe this to the indigenous peoples of the United States. The museum was closed on the day that I went because of a wedding. It is quite possible that they make mention of these people and their contributions in the museum, but it was not mentioned on the tour.

Fantastic plantation tour. The tour guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and the tour took about an hour but you get to walk the gardens around the plantations. I was surprised and pleased at how meticulous the landscaping was. The café had some great food and at the end of our chore we stopped at the turtle bar and had some fabulous cocktails

Went for the plantation experience. Stayed for lunch. Soups were really salty. Otherwise our meal was very nice in a very elegant surrounding.

"The Sugar Palace" It was quite a distance driving here but we were glad to experience the life on a sugarcane plantation in the 1800's. The estate is located between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Houmas House lives up to its "Sugar Palace" name... the property has lavish gardens (there were a lot of ponds and fountains), a restored Greek revival mansion, several restaurants and even an Inn. After checking in the gift shop we followed the pathway to the Turtle Bar as instructed. We took a 10:00a tour as we were welcomed by a period-dressed tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the historic mansion. Our guided tour started at the 16-room estate. There were plenty of artwork, china and artifacts and a crazy collection of antiques! We were the only three in the 10:00a tour so felt like it was a personal tour. The tour was entertaining as well as educational. She shared stories of the Great Sugar Barons who built this mansion and the sugar empire and also the culture of the Deep South in the antebellum era (antebellum period is the years after the War of 1812 (1812-15) and before the Civil War (1861-65). Interesting that slavery was briefly mentioned a couple times during the tour. The absence of evidence of slave residence is regrettable. There were no slave cabins on site. The tour instead concentrated on the lifestyles of the Great Sugar Barons of this plantation. The gardens are beautiful and we were able to walk around on a self-guided tour after touring inside the mansion. We didn't eat here but there are five dining places to enjoy in the estate. The gift shop is huge with plenty of souvenirs to cookbooks to high-end gifts and art. The gardens can also be rented for weddings and special occasions. The 1964 thriller film Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (starring Bette Davis) was filmed in Houmas House. Guided tours are 1-hour long. They have tours every day and begin at the sound of the bell in the Turtle Bar Gardens. Bring your Pass to the gift shop for entry. This was our first attraction on Day #2 of our City Pass. I cannot begin to describe this destination better than what their website: Houmas House Historic Plantation is the Crown Jewel of Louisiana's River Road! Guided mansion tours are offered daily and offer a glimpse of plantation life. Guides in period dress use the artifacts, furniture, artwork and stories of past owners to explain how this manor home grew into the grand estate it is today. Three on-site restaurants offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring the finest Louisiana cuisine. Thirty-eight acres of formal gardens provide a leisurely self-guided tour with walking paths and sitting nooks throughout. Last but not least, a large gift shop is a perfect place for gifts ranging from souvenirs to cookbooks to high-end gifts and art. Insanely beautiful.

Very interesting tour. Many things from daily life from years ago. Very well preserved. The garden was beautiful and so well-maintained. Susanna was a fantastic guide. She is so knowledgeable and really fun.

This was the best mansion tour we had during our cruise. Darren was our tour guide and he was excellent. I would highly recommend this visit.

Susanna gave a great tour. This is a beautiful home with gorgeous gardens. The bar and restaurant were awesome. They allow pets to go on the tour which is awesome! There is also a walking bridge to the river...gorgeous views. Definitely worth the drive from Nola!

I booked this tour through Viator while I was at the airport waiting for my flight to NOLA. We ate at the restaurant on site first. The food was delicious, and I was impressed ith the unique dishes. I had risotto with chicken. Although the chicken was a bit dry, it went well with the risotto. The tour was excellent. Due to the fact the plantation is privately owned, you actually got to touch things, which was something I'm not used to at a museum. Although not everything was original to the home itself, I liked that the owner has collected things from the same time period for people to see. The owner actually still lives on the property too. The gardens were beautiful and well kept.

It's undeniable that the house & gardens are beautiful, and offer some wonderful photographic opportunities, particularly the majestic Burnside oak. I was taken aback, however, when our tour guide introduced himself and, almost in the same breath, said that slavery would not be the focus of the tour, or even discussed. It just doesn't sit right with me that this establishment, which once held more than 800 slaves in the 1850s & 1860s -- making it "the center of the largest slave holding in Louisiana," per the National Park Service -- does not want to even broach this aspect of its history. The Houmas House's website does not make this clear in its "Mansion" tour description. (In fact, if you're looking for mention of slavery on the website, you'll have to go digging for it under the About section, where you'll find one reference to the number of slaves held (150) that grossly differs from that reported by the NPS.) Our guide, though obviously very knowledgeable about the particulars of the mansion's decor and previous owners, came across as robotic and indifferent to our enjoyment of the interior spaces we were being shown. He rushed from one room to another without soliciting questions. When we paused in any of the rooms to take a few photos after he'd finished speaking, he would move on to the next room and continue his talking points even though we weren't physically present in the room with him. (Please note that we were the only two people on the tour.) It was almost comical. Beyond all that, the check-in staff & gift shop cashier weren't very welcoming, despite there being very few visitors that Monday afternoon. Edit to address Mr. Kevin's response: We did not visit the Great River Road Museum, as our itinerary did not allow time for it. If that is indeed the case, that it discusses slavery in depth, perhaps your tour guides (and your website tour descriptions) should make that clear, instead of having your visitors show up, only to tell them, "We're not discussing slavery." Also, I'm curious why your reply didn't address the other things I mentioned in my review, such as the robotic, rushed nature of the tour or the unfriendliness of the staff.

This place is the bomb for lunch or dinner. Ask for Hunter and Parker who are servers and so sweet and attentive. If you get the chance to have lunch and walk the grounds I highly recommend this place. Off the chart good.

What a great tour Ruby! We were there yesterday had lunch then took a tour. She is the type of person you want working for the Plantation. Super informative and great sense of humor. I hope the owner sees this and values excellent employees however in this case .... she's family.

My co-workers and I went on an over night stay at the Houmas House. I heard wonderful things about this historic setting, but nothing could have prepared me for the nostalgic beauty I was about to enter. First we walked the beautiful gardens, then we took a tour of the plantation home. The tour guide was exceptional and and extremely knowledgeable about the history and artifacts on display. Our dinner was fabulous. The cottages where each of us stayed (we were 5 in our group), were all different and cozy. The current owner has done a wonderful restoration of the home and grounds. If you are thinking of visiting, do not hesitate in making your reservations and further, do yourself a favor and stay overnight!

We recently toured the Houmas house. Our tour guide was Susanna. I am happy to say that her tour was inciteful, informative and gracious. Her focus on the history of the house, the various owners, and the positive impact it and they played in the history of the area and our country was quite refreshing! A fascinating tour and a most excellent guide!!

We really enjoyed our tour of Houmas House. The house and grounds are beautiful and rich in history. Our tour guide, Evelyn, was extremely knowledgeable and fun.
