This Hidden Gem in Northern Italy Is Called 'Little Rome'

Palazzo Maffei – Art & Sunset in the Heart of Verona 🎨🌇 Palazzo Maffei is a beautifully curated art gallery showcasing an eclectic and impressive collection from the owner’s private family archive. From classical sculptures to surrealist paintings and modern design. The location is unbeatable, situated right on Piazza delle Erbe, with the added bonus of a rooftop terrace offering one of the best panoramic views of Verona. Insider tip: Go about 30 minutes before sunset — there’s often a small queue for the rooftop, but it’s worth the wait. Watching the golden light spill over the piazza and rooftops is truly unforgettable. 💛 Highly recommended for both art lovers and those looking for a unique city view!

Casa Maffei was a beautiful surprise in the middle of Verona’s historic center. The museum itself is well curated, with stunning architecture and a mix of classical and modern art that gives a sense of how layered Verona’s history is. It was peaceful, not crowded at all — a great stop if you’re looking for something beyond the main tourist sites. The view from the terrace on the roof is beautiful and offers a unique look at the piazza. Highly recommend if you’re exploring Verona and want a dose of art and elegance in a quieter setting. Get the audio tour on your phone for a few extra euros!

Amazing and very intimate museum. You can really feel the history of the building and tell a lot of care was put into curating the collection. A very wide ranging mix of artwork from almost every era. Definitely a must visit in Verona.

Absolutely wonderful! A must and a true delight. The palazzo itself is quite stunning, with its facade, its elliptic spiral staircase and the trompe l'oeil ceiling in the museum lobby, to mention just a few of its details. This museum has just become one of my favourites, similar in some ways to the Peggy Guggenheim musem in Venezia. The artwork is from the stunningly refreshing and eclectic collection of Luigi Carlon. What made this museum so remarkable and meaningful for both my husband and myself, was the orginality of the curation, executed superlatively by Gabriella Belli. Juxtaposing modern with antique works so that the dialogue between them was just beyond audible - for example, Giorgio de Chirico's Gladiators with an ancient warrior's helmet alongside. On side tables, fanciful arrangements of objects from widely differing eras and styles that must converse when the museum closes, like the toys in Tom Thumb and Toy Story. This museum made our last day in Verona memorable, made the modern Piazza Erbe sing with images from its storied past. I'm lucky that my phone battery died when I'd already taken pictures of everything!

We visited the exhibition at Palazzo Maffei and admired several masterpieces, along with the building’s stunning architecture and the beautiful views from the rooftop terrace overlooking Piazza Erbe and the surrounding Verona. The exhibition itself was well curated and pleasantly compact—no risk of art fatigue here. We even got to see the famous The Great Wave of Kanagawa of Katsushika Hokusai The palace’s spiral staircase is magnificent! The entrance fee is reasonable, the facilities are clean, and there’s free secure storage for bags. This art museum is definitely worth a visit!

Google
One of the most impressive places in all of Verona, which is already full of amazing sites. The museum is one of the most special and unique you will visit. Classical paintings and sculptures and around the corner Picasso and the surrealist Magritte. An abundance of art combined in a super interesting way. Wonderful. Until October 2025 you can amaze yourself because the museum displays the work - The Great Wave - one of the most important and impressive in Japanese art... Don't miss it! And you're not done yet... Go up to the roof terrace and admire the amazing views of amazing Verona.

Absolutely beautiful palace that's now a museum, so much art definitely if you are visiting Verona you need to visit this especially if you like art and history. Entire place is so beautiful that pictures don't do it justice. One thing if you can go early in the morning, opening hours to be precise and you will be there almost alone and have the entire place for yourself to enjoy the paintings and sculptures, you can see Great Wave of Kanagawa here as well, make sure you to climb to the roof to see the view of the city. Also I have to say people working here are so polite and kind that they just bright up the place even more. This was definitely my favorite place I've visited this weekend.

What a stunning gallery. A wonderful mix of art from different eras and styles set in a stunning building. One of the nicer galleries I’ve been to and up there with the best in the world. Come early, and be sure to check out the terrace for a beautiful view of Verona.
