House of Finn Juhl Hakuba (Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A ski resort near Nagano may sound like an unlikely spot for a hotel dedicated to a Danish modernist architect, but there’s a longstanding relationship between the two. The furniture company Onecollection produces Finn Juhl’s designs in Japanese workshops, and its cofounders seized a chance opportunity to snap up an old ski lodge in Hakuba and reimagine it in his name. The result is a sleek six-room boutique hotel, House of Finn Juhl, with a striking blend of Japanese and Scandinavian elements. Suites are named after Juhl’s signature pieces — the Chieftain Chair, the Poet Sofa, and so on — and though each is unique, all are minimalist and cozy with futuristic lighting systems, organic bath products, and soft damask linens by Georg Jensen. An elegant bar and lounge face views of the Japanese Alps." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed here during March and had mixed feelings. Location is great, near to alot of eateries and rental shops. The rooms themselves were actually really nice as the furniture is all by Finn Juhl —minimal aesthetic, clean, quiet, and comfortable, which I definitely appreciated. It’s a great place if you're just looking for a peaceful night's sleep with gorgeous furniture pieces. What we like about this place is that they have a proper drying area for skies and snowboards, and as a bonus, they have an open bar with free flow of alcohol. That said, the host/service side of things left a lot to be desired. The vibe was pretty cold and not very welcoming, which unfortunately made the stay feel less enjoyable overall. It’s always nice to feel like someone actually wants you there, and that just wasn’t the case here. So if you're after a place with good rooms but don’t mind a lack of warmth or hospitality, this might still work for you. Personally, I’d probably look elsewhere next time.

I only can describe WOW!! The service is over beyond with lovely Yoshi & Yuki! 1: Hospitality service OVER the top! 2: I was traveling alone, I truly felt like in a family boutique home, with being taking cared, and got quality me time. 3: The design, perfect lighting, luxury towels totally fit with the vibe. Can open the window fresh air for a good sleep. 4: The lounge bar, cheese platter, breakfast (western style) was the big cherry on the cake. I stayed in the Poem room, this was a very nice poem story trip! Memories continues with the HOFJ coffee mugs back at home ❤️! Thank you House of Finn Juhl, take care and see you next time!

This has to be one of the nicest, most thoughtful places I’ve ever stayed. The design is minimal, yet thought out and beautiful, the rooms are fantastic, the beds SO comfortable and the service is second-to-none. From offering complimentary drop off and pick up from local ski fields to putting on a beautiful breakfast each morning, The House Of Finn Juhl has exceeded my expectations and then some. Arigato Gozaimasu to Yuka, Motoharu and Yoshi for making us feel so cared for during our stay. We can’t wait to come back to Hakuba and stay here again one day.

Yoshi and Yuka are the best and went above and beyond to make our stay very enjoyable! I highly recommend this accommodation. The rooms are large, clean and the house is super cozy. The common areas are great places to relax, the breakfast is delicious and the free wine and sake are an added bonus.

Hakuba made it onto my Japan trip this time because I’ve always wanted to come see this place, and thank god I decided to do it. As an interior designer and a design lover, this place truly fulfilled my trip to Hakuba. The selection of furniture and the lighting create a warmth that’s perfect for a cold day. Yuka, her husband (I’m sorry I couldn’t remember your name!), and Yoshi are all incredibly kind and helpful people. There are four separate common areas for you to enjoy, and I definitely recommend coming with friends—the bar and communal area in the basement offer free-flow drinks anytime.

Amazing place to stay, we had a great time. The staff is super friendly and the couple that manages the property will go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable in your stay. The room, dining room, lounge, ski room EVERYTHING really is amazing. Every little detail has been thought off. The furniture in the property is from famous Danish designer Finn juhl; practically you will be staying on a high end hotel\shoowroom of this brand. Great location as well! Situated in echo land you have several restaurants, shops around. Can’t wait to go back!

House of Finn Juhl is an unexpected jewel, more a cozy inn/B&B than a hotel. If you love simple, gorgeous mid-century modern ambiance this is the place for you—Finn Juhl’s Danish aesthetic combined with Japanese coutesy and service. Small, comfortable rooms. Impeccably clean. The owners/managers, Yuka and Harry, are sweet, wonderful and super-accommodating. Breakfast delicious. Short walk to great Echoland restaurants but ask Yuka to book for you well in advance.

The photos don’t do justice to how well the place is furnished and looked after. The house is run by a beautiful husband and wife team who went above and beyond to accommodate us, shuttling us around Hakuba to the ski resorts and providing breakfast and evening snacks. The bar area in the basement is also a very cool spot to hang out with free beer and wine and lots of well decorated places to drink it. Can’t recommend this place enough.
