The Best Hotels in Edinburgh (2025) | Condé Nast Traveler

"If you like velvety opulence and maximalist attitude, I found House of Gods a gleeful den of decadence: neon signage against Gucci‑heron wallpaper, compact yet characterful rooms inspired by Orient Express compartments, a bedside gadget to summon a butler, milk and cookies, or prosecco, and the option to have an in‑room mixologist prepare cocktails based on songs you like—while two adjacent bars, Lilith’s Lounge and the Casablanca Club, dial the decadence even higher." - Rosie Conroy

House of Gods (Edinburgh, UK) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not the most modest name in hotel history, but House of Gods Royal Mile sets itself apart from Edinburgh’s often-traditional hotel scene with a decadent, maximalist approach to design, as well as a focus on nightlife that’s unlike anything else in town. Its accommodations are smallish, for the most part, but this is a hotel that prizes glamour over practicality — the sort of place, for example, to feature three bars and zero restaurants." - Tablet Hotels

We booked the treat me like I'm famous experience as part of our stay as it was for a wedding anniversary. The room itself did give the vibe of being a railway carriage but it was very small. That's fine as obviously it fits with the theme but it meant there wasn't a lot of room to move about. In theory the balloons on the bed is a nice touch but there is then nowhere to put them. We found hairs on the cushions and so had to go into the bar while they changed the bedding, really something that should be checked for when the bed is made up but they were quick. The bathroom is a wet room but is so small that when we had a shower the next morning the whole floor was wet as there's not enough of a tilt to the floor to drain off. The TV also stopped working properly which wasn't a major problem but would've been nice if it had worked all night, might have been an issue with the WiFi as it was the apps we were trying to watch. The cocktails are lovely at the bar and the extras like the mimosa with breakfast is a nice treat. The breakfast hamper was o.k, we only had the croissants so maybe give people a choice of what they want in them, additionally there is nowhere to eat so you're sat on the bed with nothing but a napkin to use. All in all we enjoyed it but it wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be and I dont think I'd stay again though I would go for drinks. I would recommend staying in one of the larger rooms. Staff were lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough.

We visited this hotel as part of my wife's 50th birthday celebrations and we were made extremely welcome on booking in and enjoyed our complimentary glasses of Prosecco. I am not a big Prosecco fan but enjoyed the welcome and our first impressions were extremely positive.|The decor is stunning, dark wood walls with lush burgundy drapes. We loved the winding corridors, dark and atmospheric which led to our room.|The room, sorry, was a bit disappointing. The four poster bed was stunning but the room was so small there was barely any room for anything else.if you sleep on the far side like what i do you have to squeeze round the side of the bed. It is extremely cozy though and with the drapes round the bed closed makes it pitch black with really adds to the atmosphere. There is little to no storage for clothes/toiletries.|The bathroom was small as well but as I don't spend much time in the bathroom, not a big issue.|The highlight is the cocktails, they were magnificent. They all looked terrific but expensive so we only had 2 each. I would say they are worth it though, we enjoyed them immensely, so much so that next time we are in Edinburgh we will be popping in for a few more off the menu. |We loved the cookies and milk at the end of the night, although when it is advertised as a butler delivering them I expected the whole suit and tails, not just staff dressed casually. This is perhaps my too high expectations as my wife didn't seem to mind.|The breakfast was disappointing, we had to chase them up as it hadn't arrived at the time arranged. 1 croissant each was a bit cheap we thought, 2 would be perfect. My coffee was lukewarm while my wife's was late to arrive but hot at least. We both enjoyed the yogurt with granola and biscuits though. |Overall, I feel it is worth a visit but it is a one and done for me and not more than a one night stay recommended. ||Highlights: ||Decor |Four poster bed|Corridors |Cocktails|Staff attentive ||Lowlights:||Very small rooms |Breakfast hamper

Location was excellent. A short walk from The Royal Mile and Victoria Street. Also, just 5 minutes from Waverly station by car which made arrival and departure via uber stress free. ||Staff was very kind and made check-in / check-out a breeze.||Room was very small and had we been staying for more than one night we would have needed to make a change to have more space, seating, and natural light. ||I enjoyed the breakfast hamper; however, we were never offered milk & cookies as stated on my booking package.

My partner and I had a terrible night stay here. Our room was tiny, smelled of mould and there was obvious mould in the room and bathroom. The bathroom was more of a wet room and when you shower everything was soaked. The smell of the room was the main issue my partner ended up sitting in reception majority of the night due to being unable breath in the actual room due to health issues and the mould smell. I’m 6 months pregnant and spent the night worrying about that side of things. There was obvious mould on the ceiling of the room and the cleanliness overall wasn’t great. ||The staff I have to say were very nice and did offer extras as an apology however there wasn’t another room option when we asked and to be honest if my partner and I had a way of getting home in the early hours we would have left and not stayed. I still can’t get over the room smelling so bad and the fact everything in the room was moist due to clear ventilation issues. We were offered 30% refund which to me personally wasn’t good enough considering the cost of a room here on a Saturday night, neither of us slept and were put in unhealthy living conditions. The breakfast in the morning which was what appeared to compare to a millar corner yoghurt, cheap watery coffee, a stale pastry, 150mls of apple juice and some shortbread for £20 PER person was absolute diabolical. I would not waste money staying here it is not worth the visit. Very disappointed.

Came here for my 30th as I have had my eye on it for a while. Positives Friendly staff and nice drinks, the bed is comfortable and you can watch Netflix, Prime, etc. You can contact staff on WhatsApp and they are very fast and responsive. Unfortunately, that is all that was good about it. The rooms are ridiculously small. We had to take turns getting ready to go out; one of us would sit on the bed while the other got ready. There is no wardrobe, only a small drawer under the bed. They fill your room with balloons, for which there is no space. It is so dark, making it hard to get ready and find your things. God forbid you go shopping and bring things back with you, as there is nowhere to put them. The room gets very cluttered very quickly. The bathroom again is tiny and after using the shower, a disgusting cat pee smell came up from the drains. I told the staff about this, to which they said they would drain our bathroom when we were out and that they "knew exactly what it was." There is no window for fresh air; the whole hotel in general is stuffy. The air conditioning, however, did work fine. The beds have regular pillows and also big, fancy cushions and a thick throw over the top. I would be interested to know how often those get cleaned and replaced. Another slightly annoying thing was that I found out I was pregnant after booking (the booking was nonrefundable). So, we let them know prior to coming if it was okay to switch out my drinks to mocktails, to which they were absolutely fine with. However, when we got there, every drink they brought as part of the package was alcoholic and had to be switched out. Not a major deal, but we did tell them so it was a little annoying. So unfortunately, I would not recommend. I really wished we had stayed somewhere else as it did taint the trip. For the price my partner paid, it is 100% not luxury and I’m gutted he spent that much. As friendly as the staff are, you are not treated the way a real luxury hotel would treat you.

Staff were fabulous especially manager Miles who went above and beyond and was extremely professional and friendly. Night receptionists was awsome even though it was only her 3rd shift. Extra touches are worth it. Good location. Cocktails great. Wonderful experience.

Lovely wee comfortable room just off the Royal Mile, staff were super helpful and friendly, and welcome drink was greatly appreciated. We partook in the evening cookies and milk offer and the breakfast basket was very generous and delish. Parking is a bit of a walk, recommend dropping bags at reception before heading to the Holyrood NCP parking lot.

My husband and I stayed here for one night and immediately wished we had booked a longer stay. The rooms are absolutely stunning, and the customer service is top-notch—so quick, helpful, and genuinely kind. If you book directly through the hotel, you’re greeted with complimentary champagne at check-in, plus a tray of milk and cookies in the evening and a breakfast basket in the morning. So many thoughtful perks at a very reasonable price. The only downside was the size of the room. We had large luggage, and the space did feel a bit cramped. If you’re traveling light, it wouldn’t be an issue, but if you have a lot of bags, I’d recommend upgrading to one of the larger rooms. Also, the windows aren’t real windows—they’re a light panel that mimics the outdoor lighting. I was a little worried that it might feel claustrophobic, but it didn’t at all. I highly recommend staying here. My husband and I will absolutely be back on our next visit to Edinburgh.
