The Best Hotels in Edinburgh (2025) | Condé Nast Traveler

"If you like velvety opulence and maximalist attitude, I found House of Gods a gleeful den of decadence: neon signage against Gucci‑heron wallpaper, compact yet characterful rooms inspired by Orient Express compartments, a bedside gadget to summon a butler, milk and cookies, or prosecco, and the option to have an in‑room mixologist prepare cocktails based on songs you like—while two adjacent bars, Lilith’s Lounge and the Casablanca Club, dial the decadence even higher." - Rosie Conroy

House of Gods (Edinburgh, UK) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not the most modest name in hotel history, but House of Gods Royal Mile sets itself apart from Edinburgh’s often-traditional hotel scene with a decadent, maximalist approach to design, as well as a focus on nightlife that’s unlike anything else in town. Its accommodations are smallish, for the most part, but this is a hotel that prizes glamour over practicality — the sort of place, for example, to feature three bars and zero restaurants." - Tablet Hotels

The whole House of Gods experience was brilliant. Complementary prosecco on arrival, easy check in and a stunning room, complete with mini bar. Yes the room is small. But, it was for one night, the bed was comfy, the mirror changed into a telly, the waterfall shower gave instant hot water. |There were tons of light switches to change the mood of the room and the soft furnishings were opulant |We had cocktails in the bar and they were amazing (and strong)|Don't let anybody the negative reviews out you off. This was a great city break and the staff were all friendly, attentive and on point. Made our wee Xmas overnighter quite special

1/5 – Very Disappointing Stay We stayed at the House of Gods Hotel in Edinburgh and unfortunately had a very poor experience from start to finish. The room was extremely small and so dark that it was difficult to get ready. On top of that, there was a strange smell of urine in the room, which made the stay uncomfortable and ultimately caused us to leave early in the morning. Because of this, we couldn’t even stomach the breakfast. Our package included the advertised “ring the bell anytime and the butler will bring milk and cookies.” In reality, there was no bell, no butler, and instead we were told to message via WhatsApp. It felt misleading compared to what was promised. This stay was given to us as a wedding gift, and someone genuinely thought they were treating us to a luxury experience. We actually feel bad that they spent their hard‑earned money on something that turned out to be so disappointing. Breakfast was another issue. There’s no option to eat anywhere except in the bed, which means the bed ends up covered in trays and food. Not ideal if you want to relax and stay in bed for a few hours afterwards. There were a few positives: the staff were genuinely friendly, and the cocktails were great. However, the room design let everything down. The shower floods the entire bathroom, making it impossible to use the toilet after drying off. Another odd detail was the lack of a real window—just a tiled “window” that people could walk past. At least you couldn’t see in, and there was a curtain if needed, but it still felt strange and claustrophobic. Overall, the concept might be fun in theory, but the execution was poor, and the basics of comfort and cleanliness just weren’t there.

I was treated to an overnight stay by my fiancé for my 50th birthday celebration. ||I was super excited to be staying in House of Gods! Everything was kept a surprise until the morning of my birthday. I can honestly say that I haven't experienced anything like it before!  The hotel was somewhat gothic, luxurious, opulent and really glamorous. ||Stunning room with 4 poster bed, beautiful furnishings and fixtures. Yes the room is compact but it certainly had the Wow factor.  ||Included for us was Treat me Like your Famous package. If you can't feel like your a famous star on your 50th then when can you!   Every single piece of service and detail was spot on. The service was above and beyond anything I expected or imagined.||The minute we arrived we got such a warm welcome, a glass of Prosecco which we enjoyed in the stunning cocktail bar. Whilst our luggage and jackets were taken to our room. We then were taken through our options for room service cocktails, booked for cocktails in the lounge and also breakfast hamper choices. ||The room was decorated with gold petals, balloons, there was a bottle of Prosecco on ice and the most decadent chocolate selection.||We had the butler cocktail service to the room which was amazing, so special ans the Millionaires cocktail was delicious. ||We enjoyed a further few cocktails down in the lounge. The selection was amazing, spoiled for choice.  The Rum Rum Rudolph was a favourite.   When we returned in the evening we had a nightcap and retired to our room.||Tv had Netflix  amazon etc We pressed for service and hot fresh baked cookies arrived, glasses of milk and other sweet treats. ||Our breakfast hamper was delightful, really lovely products and presented beautifully. The mimosas went down a treat. ||Super comfortable bed really luxurious bedding, pillows etc we didn't want to leave!||The staff went above and beyond and the whole experience from start to finish was one I shall never forget. Utterly perfect and out of this world. Thank you House of (oh my) God's

I sometimes go to this bar to enjoy a cocktail and or a glass or bottle of wine. Great atmosphere, excellent customer service and reasonable prices. A great place to relax and soak in the atmosphere of a bustling and busy nightspot in Edinburgh. Highly recommend

This is an interesting one as we sort of knew what we were getting before we arrive but…….the rooms are much smaller than expected. You can barely fit two people in the room and if you are over 6ft forget it lol! Quirky comes to mind but again I think it’s beyond quirky.|When we first looked at this hotel it was £390 for two nights but ended up paying £263 without breakfast . At £390 I would have felt robbed! Even at £263 I would question if value for money.|That said staff were lovely and accommodating. A 4 might be pushing it.|Would I be back…….sorry folks but absolutely not. Not for me.

Overall disappointing stay, we booked here as I have previously stayed in the Glasgow branch and was impressed by the rooms and service. However, the Edinburgh hotel is lacking in facilities and rooms are considerably smaller in size. The cabin rooms are literally a bed and a walkway to the bed. The bathroom is a toilet with the shower practically hanging over the loo, everything gets soaked when in it. It feels quite claustrophobic for 2 adults. Breakfast is a yogurt and granola with a coffee and some juice, in comparison to Glasgow where you have choice of cooked breakfast. Staff are friendly and helpful, however it was not a luxury experience and wouldn’t recommend it unless you get the suite, which is disappointing considering the price and marketing of the hotel.

The location is excellent, however the bedroom is one of the smallest I have ever experienced. The dark decor allows for the cleanliness to be poor and simply adds to the claustrophobic experience. Having to slide down between the side of the bed and the wall so you don't disturb your partner to go to the bathroom is not what I expect from a £400 per night room. ||The bathroom (or should I say wetroom, which to be fair is what it was named by the host) had a toilet that was loose from the wall, but also had an innovative idea. If you wanted to shower and brush your teeth in the wash hand basin at the same time, it is easily achieved in this postage stamp of a room.||I did not feel decadent here, I felt ripped off.||The staff that I did interact with were pleasant enough and you can't blame them for the rooms.||Breakfast in the room was a challenge because you could only eat it perched on your bed, there was no room for anything else.||Finding glass in the shower topped it off as probably the worst hotel experience I've had and I've stayed in a lot of poor hotels. My comments are probably exaggerated by the price tag and expectations that are set by both that and the marketing content.||I'm clearly not the right customer for this hotel.

Came here for my 30th as I have had my eye on it for a while. Positives Friendly staff and nice drinks, the bed is comfortable and you can watch Netflix, Prime, etc. You can contact staff on WhatsApp and they are very fast and responsive. Unfortunately, that is all that was good about it. The rooms are ridiculously small. We had to take turns getting ready to go out; one of us would sit on the bed while the other got ready. There is no wardrobe, only a small drawer under the bed. They fill your room with balloons, for which there is no space. It is so dark, making it hard to get ready and find your things. God forbid you go shopping and bring things back with you, as there is nowhere to put them. The room gets very cluttered very quickly. The bathroom again is tiny and after using the shower, a disgusting cat pee smell came up from the drains. I told the staff about this, to which they said they would drain our bathroom when we were out and that they "knew exactly what it was." There is no window for fresh air; the whole hotel in general is stuffy. The air conditioning, however, did work fine. The beds have regular pillows and also big, fancy cushions and a thick throw over the top. I would be interested to know how often those get cleaned and replaced. Another slightly annoying thing was that I found out I was pregnant after booking (the booking was nonrefundable). So, we let them know prior to coming if it was okay to switch out my drinks to mocktails, to which they were absolutely fine with. However, when we got there, every drink they brought as part of the package was alcoholic and had to be switched out. Not a major deal, but we did tell them so it was a little annoying. So unfortunately, I would not recommend. I really wished we had stayed somewhere else as it did taint the trip. For the price my partner paid, it is 100% not luxury and I’m gutted he spent that much. As friendly as the staff are, you are not treated the way a real luxury hotel would treat you.
