Nutshell: Yummy food, good prices, a perfect food adventure.
Shout out to STL Black Restaurant Week for putting this place on my radar! After several days of seeing tantalizing photos of their dishes...I had to make the trek from South City. I stopped in around 7pm on a Friday to order to-go. I was the only person there. I ordered one of the Restaurant Week specials, a Jollof Wrap with chicken with a side of plantains. I went with mild spice level because I'm a wuss. While I waited, I took in the space...if it wasn't covid-time, I'd have really enjoyed eating in. It's colorful and has just enough seating. The lady that took my order was pleasant and checked on me several times with the status of my order, overall about 15 minutes or so. I had a 30 min drive back home and was salivating from the spice-filled aroma filling my car. The wrap was really big and the flavors just mmmmf! So good! It's packed with the spiced up rice, lettuce, peppers and onions, and a dressing that I will be getting on literally everything I order from them moving forward. I can't even explain what the dressing was, but it made the mmmf 10 times more intense. The only thing I didn't care for was the texture of the chicken. The burrito could stand on it's own, so I'd probably just leave it out next time. Now my favorite part, the plantains... OH THE PLANTAINS! Perfectly fried and delicious. My total ran about $10, mind you that was a special for restaurant week. Normal menu total would be closer to $14. The menu price is absolutely reasonable for the amount and quality of food. All in all, I would 100% make the drive again and would recommend House of Jollof to everyone.
