5 Best Day Trips From Montreal: Québec City, Ottawa, the Eastern Townships, Mont Tremblant, and Hudson | Condé Nast Traveler

"Embrace a unique element of Québec culture with a visit to the Maison de la Littérature, a gorgeous building—half historic church, half new modernist-style addition. The brilliant white interior with mile-high ceilings makes a naturally edifying setting for hearing lectures, seeing exhibitions, or browsing French books. The space is entirely dedicated Québec literature, with a fully stocked library and fantastic work tables for writing, reading, and taking a load off." - Todd Plummer, Isa Tousignant

How to Visit Québec City on a Budget in 2025

"I enjoyed visiting La Maison de la Littérature, a funky French library housed in a converted church; it’s free to enter and pairs well with a stop at the Morrin Centre across the street for a quirky, cultural afternoon." - Matthew Kepnes

Maybe part of it is still under construction but the space is a bit tiny. I liked the stylish things were decorated but the seating isn't very comfy. Also I wasn't able to find any power outlets to charge my laptop from the table.

Such a beautiful library. Quiet. Clean. Helpful staff. Very tiny English collection. Extremely pleasant visit if you like to spend time at libraries. Thank you !

Today, I finally had the chance to visit a place that had been on my Bucket List for quite some time, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations! I vividly remember reading an article about this place when it was being transformed into a Cultural center back in 2011. What impressed me the most was how they were able to preserve the double tall window of the cathedral and the exterior, while also infusing modern design elements. The interior exudes a sense of tranquility and boasts a remarkably sleek and immaculate design. It is a haven for those seeking solace or a quiet place to study. Undoubtedly, this place is a true gem!

Visiting the library, which was once a majestic church, is a captivating experience that seamlessly melds the reverence of history with the innovation of the modern age. The architectural fusion is nothing short of breathtaking, with the grandeur of its magestic windows and high vaulted ceilings coexisting harmoniously alongside sleek, contemporary furnishings. The result is an enchanting atmosphere that beckons visitors to linger amidst the juxtaposition of old and new. This unique transformation has breathed new life into the space, creating a haven where the serenity of a sacred past converges with the vibrancy of a modern library, making it an utterly delightful place to lose oneself in the world of books.

Another wonderful library to check out in Québec! It is converted from a church and the architecture is stunning. It's very clean and there are a variety of book collections there. Another must see!

Gorgeous place, a must stop for any architecture fans. The church was converted into a public library in 2015. It’s a calm an quiet place to take a moment during your trip in the city.

They call it modern french libraries, converting some churches to library. What a great and serene atmosphere to read and study, even to take refuge from the heat of summer. Downstairs there is a cafeteria.

A fabulous place to work out of and so many books (including locally written) in French to help with learning. My suggestion is the comics section! The staff are so kind!
