House of Opium Museum is a very informative and well-curated stop in the Golden Triangle, especially if you want to understand the region’s history beyond the usual photo points. The museum has a large collection of exhibits, including historical artifacts, tools, pipes, photographs, and detailed displays that explain the opium trade and its wider impact. It is more extensive than expected, and there is also a second floor with even more to see, which makes the visit feel complete and worthwhile.
A really nice detail is that at the beginning you can choose a postcard, and at the end of your visit you can stamp it with your preferred museum stamps—so you leave with a free souvenir. There is also a souvenir shop offering many items, from magnets and candles to other gift products. Overall, this is a meaningful, educational, and surprisingly engaging museum that I would definitely recommend when visiting Chiang Saen / the Golden Triangle.
