My friends and I had a lovely stay at House on the Hill from 28 to 30 December, 2019. It is, as its name suggests, literally a house perched on a hill. Only better. It commands a spectacular view. Lavender plants line the driveway and bid a charming welcome. For three city dwellers from Singapore, it is a sweet haven of tranquility. ||||We loved the beautifully landscaped garden just beyond the living and dining room. A resident kookaburra stakes his place as king resident here amidst a dazzling display of flowers. In the evenings it was a treat to sit outside and read in full view of the garden. ||||What impressed us the most was the warmth and hospitality of our hosts, Judith and Paul. They made it a point to interact with us, took an interest in our travel plan, and offered helpful tips on weather forecasts and places to visit. They taught us the names of the flowers in the garden. Now whenever I see the agapanthus, I will remember Paul and Judith. They even retrieved the laundry we left to dry on the clotheslines in the yard when it rained and we were out galavanting. ||||We had all our breakfast and dinners at House on the Hill, and enjoyed the delicious home-cooked meals. There was a delectable mince pie we particularly liked and Judith kept another serving for us for dinner the next day. How very sweet and thoughtful! ||||Staying at House on the Hill was memorable and marked the start of a truly wonderful visit to Tasmania. God willing, we shall return.
