"New York City has some stellar thrift stores, most of which benefit charities. The finest are run by the social service organization Housing Works, which provides assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS. Celebrities have been spotted dropping off their lightly-used clothes, accessories, and home goods, which are then put out for sale. Of the dozen or so locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Crosby Street shop stands out for its selection as well as the added perk of the adjacent Housing Works Bookstore Cafe."

"Housing Works, Soho by Julia Guo. One of the best Housing Works stores in the city, the Soho location lives up to all the flagship stores surrounding it. The selection here is more curated than other Housing works, and the stock turn around is fairly quick. Always worth a browse to find vintage treasures at a steal."

Where to Go Shopping in NYC | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Soho location of Housing Works, a beloved local thrift chainlet (there are other outposts Uptown, in Chelsea, and in Park Slope) is where you have the best chance of finding real bargain treasure. Like any thrift store, there's plenty of stuff that ranges from just OK to downright junky, but the shop is also known as a dumping ground for local fashionistas who are trying to make space in their closets. So you just might find a pair of good-as-new Maryam Nassir Zadeh mules, or a faux fur teddy coat. Remember: Take your time, and don't be disappointed if you don't find anything on your first visit." - Andrea Whittle

A bit pricey for a thrift store but I always find something I like for a price I love. For instance today's find: $15 for leather belts in excellent condition. Brand names Micheal Kors and Coach. Brand new with tags Stainless Steel water bottles that looked like leftovers from a giveaway for 2 bucks a pop.

Hey, you interested in overpriced "brand name" junk? This is the place to go. This is just one example, but they're selling this bag for 150, the zipper is broken on both sides, the bag is ripping, and it's moldy. Found the same bag on ebay in near perfect condition with all zippers functional, WITHOUT someone's custom label on it for cheaper. When this bag doesn't sell, they'll just throw it out like garbage, as stated by past employees. They're absolutely insane. Every store is like this, but let this one be a prime example. I don't support housing works anymore, finding out they dump items they don't sell, and don't even donate them or give them to employees. Donate/sell to the shops that actually sell them affordable like crossroads, goodwill, beacons or Buffalo exchange, as they will actually donate the stuff when they can't sell them.

sometimes i stop here after picking up paperbacks at the next-door Housing Works bookstore (also awesome). this location is super small versus other locations, but the interior is well-maintained and really clean. most items are either decor or women’s merchandise. there’s a small mens section in the back. randomly, i snagged a cool Fall hoody. haven’t made a donation drop here yet—but like most HW locations…the staff make it real easy. prices on things tend to be higher than a normal thrift store. things are a bit more curated and in better shape at Housing Works, in general. my advice donate stuff your not using. seriously

Great place to donate your slightly used items - clothing or household items are needed. Just take them to the desk in the back of the store. Definitely support this place as it's a great cause and so close to Soho. The workers are always friendly, the place is clean and you can find unique pieces.

All the Housing Works are hit or miss. This one is the second smallest of the stores (the West Village location is very tiny) but punches above its weight. Next door is the awesome Housing Works used book store… an absolute must if you like that kind of thing.

I get quality clothing for a very good price at this establishment and the money I spend goes to a worthy cause. You just have to know brands, workmanship and how much the item is worth when new. The clothing is always clean, there is a fitting room to try the clothes on and the service staff are pleasant and helpful.

Great place! There are so many good finds but the shoes range from ok to beaten up. There is a section of table where and the clothes are in good conditions many people should donate their clothes.

One of my favorite thrift shops in the city. They have great stuff, and you never know what weird stuff you'll find. They also do excellent events in their bookstore just a couple doors over from their Crosby store.
