The location of the Howe Sound Inn & Brewing is absolutely fantastic. Sitting on the restaurant patio, you are treated to stunning views of The Chief and the surrounding mountains, it really is a breathtaking spot and sets a great tone for the stay.
The hotel room itself was clean, comfortable, and offered nice amenities, but I can only give the room three stars. Throughout the night, there was a loud, unsettling noise coming from the ducts under the ceiling. It sounded like water running at different intensities, and it was constant, making it really difficult to get a good night's sleep. Hard to pinpoint exactly where it was coming from, but it definitely impacted the experience.
The front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming, which helped create a positive first impression. However, the continental breakfast left a lot to be desired. There was no coffee or tea offered with the buffet-style setup, and unfortunately, the donut I picked had mold on it. Definitely not the way you want to start your day.
On a much brighter note, the restaurant meal was excellent. We ordered the crispy wings and the pulled pork sandwich, and both were fantastic. I also really enjoyed their sour beer, fresh, crisp, and exactly what I was hoping for. The only major disappointment was that the restaurant and pub closed at 9:00 PM. We brought a large group over around 8:45 PM, expecting to enjoy some pub food and drinks, but found the doors closing just as we arrived. It would be helpful if the hours were extended or more clearly communicated, especially given the inn’s strong appeal to visitors and groups.
Overall, Howe Sound Inn & Brewing is a good place to eat and stay if you are visiting Squamish. The location alone is worth it, and the food and beer are excellent. With a bit more attention to guest comfort and small service details, it could easily become a top-tier experience.
