"Seeing wild wolves in Yellowstone National Park is nearly impossible without a guide; amateur wolf watchers in any case need high-powered binoculars and tolerance for cold, as the best observation season is winter, when wolf fur stands out against the snow. But at Howlers Inn Bed & Breakfast & Wolf Sanctuary, just outside Bozeman, guests year-round can observe a captive-bred pack from their bedroom window, and even pet a wolf through the chain-link fence of the inn’s four-acre sanctuary. Owners Chris and Mary Martha Bahn originally opened the federally licensed shelter in 1993 for a single rescued wolf that was unable to return to the wild. Built to fund the shelter as it accommodated more animals to live as a pack, the cozy log B&B sits on 42 acres in Bridger Canyon amid boulder-strewn meadows backed by pine-covered hills. Two wolf enclosures, with a seasonal pond and creek, are currently home to five spayed or neutered timber and Alaskan tundra wolves, born in captivity, whose owners could no longer keep them. The Bahns do not breed or exhibit the animals for profit, but they're happy to discuss wolf conservation as well as the controversial issues of game farm breeding and hunting. Guests are welcome to photograph the human-habituated animals during their stay."

This has been an incredibly unique and wonderful experience - the Inn is beautiful and our room had all we could ask for. The hosts are very accommodating and friendly. Being able to observe and spend time with the wolves has been amazing. The animals are clearly well cared for and my family and I enjoyed watching them in their spacious enclosures. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who loves wolves and wants to enjoy a relaxing time in Bozeman. Thank you!

We were told about this wolf sanctuary by friends who stayed two years ago, they said if you can make it there it’ll be worth your time. They were right, while we only stayed one night, due to a tight itinerary on our part, it was a great experience. Michael was our innkeeper and he was great, the inn was clean and well furnished with every amenity. We spent hours watching the wolves, amazing animals that had second chances because of the sanctuary owners. Breakfast was continental, just enough to get us going. We recommend making the trip.

It is the wolves that make this place unique. The bedrooms are huge, luxurious and beautifully equipped. The shared areas are spacious and very comfortable, encouraging interaction between guests, which is nice. The setting is idyllic, with glorious views in every direction. With the delightful towns of Bozeman & Livingstone both a short drive away and Yellowstone easy to reach. Tom & Charlene were very welcoming, and then we were well looked after over the weekend by Neil. Breakfast is plentiful and well presented. Not sure what else to say - except the wolves are wonderful. It is an honour to meet them in near natural surroundings like this.

Absolutely loved my stay and everything about this place. The location and scenery are stunning. I stayed in the guest house for 4 nights which had everything needed including a kitchen. The main inn is just beautiful with multiple observation decks (perfect place to have coffee in the morning). Seeing the wolves was a unique and amazing experience. Tom, Charlene and Michael were all very welcoming. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
We had an amazing experience here. It is very obvious that the host loves this place so much and especially the wolves. The house is beautiful and clean and the beds are comfortable and gave us the best sleep we’d had in a while. But the wolves were the best part. They come right up to you and wanted to play. I can’t wait until we come back!

Google
Loved our stay at howlers inn. Our room was very clean and spacious. The shared areas were very nice to hangout in especially playing pool while there's wolves right outside the windows! Seeing the wolves was by far the best part though. We got to walk area the perimeter and have the wolves walk with us which was so cool. Definitely recommending this amazing place to everyone. 10/10 would come back

We stayed at the Howlers in for two nights in August and can't wait to go back. The property is beautiful, the hosts are truly amazing, and the wolves... WOLVES!!! As others have said, you could probably sit and watch them all day and listen to them all night. The sun sets over the Bridgers each evening and on clear days you can see at least two other mountain ranges.||The Inn is a short drive from Bozeman. We enjoyed bringing back our evening meals and eating on the deck or in the dining room (kitchen) while watching the wolves. In the other direction, Yellowstone is close enough for a day trip if that's your goal. Plenty of hiking near by in the greater Bozeman area as well.||Can't wait to get back to the Howlers Inn!

This was one of the coolest places I have ever stayed. Being able to wake up and watch/hear the wolves was truly amazing. Check In - We were greeted by Michael when we arrived and he was genuinely friendly and began showing us the property and our room. He told us plenty about the place and the wolves. Room - We stayed in the Western room which overlooked the wolves which was awesome. Everything was very clean and the room was spacious and comfortable. Location - 15 min to Bozeman made it easy to go into town for food. The property itself and the surrounding area were beautiful. Wolves - So cool to sit and watch them interact, and walking around their enclosure. They truly seem happy and well taken care of. All in all, I would 100% stay here again. My only complaint, and it's super hard to address so I get it, were the flies. Sitting on the deck watching the wolves was hampered by the sheer number of flies/bugs swarming around during the warm days. I would highly recommend bringing some sort of repellant if you plan to sit outside for long. I can't say enough great things about this place. Don't look to stay anywhere else if you are in the area.

Yelp
This place is amazing! We had the good fortune of staying in the room that overlooks the wolf enclosure, and the weather was favorable enough that we could sleep with the bathroom window open so that we could hear them howl. It was amazing to be in such close proximity to them! The area is great, too--about 10 minutes from some excellent trails and rock climbing, 1 1/2 hrs from the North entrance of Yellowstone, 20 min from Livingston, and 15 min from downtown Bozeman. It's also just 3 miles from the Grizzly Encounter, which is also worth visiting! The hosts are friendly and informative, the breakfast options they leave out are healthy and nourishing, and the property is immaculate and majestic. I would recommend a stay here to anyone looking for an experience with wildlife under secure conditions.

Yelp
My husband and I had the pleasure to stay in the Western room for two nights! Very comfortable bed, inviting western decor, and best of all we heard the wolves howling out our window. The hosts were knowledgeable and friendly, great breakfast in the morning while sitting out on the deck enjoying the breathtaking views and wolves! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back

Yelp
Don't stay at the Howlers Inn. This is a horrible operation run by unreliable hosts. We were turned away at the door even with our dates confirmed in email from 6 months prior. The hosts were unapologetic for their poor planning and poor communication; in fact, they made it out to seem like our mistake, even after reading the email - sent by themselves - showing that we had a reservation for that night & the next. With no accommodation for their mistake, with nothing impressive about the living space - for man or wolf alike - and with no room at the Inn, we were sent to find a manger that would respect our reservation & house us for our stay in Montana. So again, don't bother staying at the Howlers Inn - you may get scammed & not even get the chance, even afreserving months in advance.

Yelp
An incredible place, staffed by amazing people. If you're looking for a bed and breakfast, it has everything you could want - great rooms, a fantastic environment, wonderful owners and a stellar breakfast. But the treasure, of course, is the wolves. Truly a special place.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights in the Aspen room. The hosts were lovely & the breakfasts were delicious. Our 9 year old loved the pool table & we were able to watch a movie on their projector screen on the lower level. The wolves were so cool! We sat out on the porch & watched them multiple times; it's good to know that the money we spent goes to help these beautiful animals. The room itself was a good size, with two Queen beds & a full bathroom with a huge bathtub. The beds were comfortable, with lots of pillows & extra blankets just in case - but we didn't need them. We visited in late August.

Yelp
Stayed here in July and had a fantastic experience. Our room (Southwest) overlooked the wolf enclosures so we could watch them from our window, and hear all the cool howling at night. The room was very comfortable, there were all sorts of amenities (sauna, game room, movie theatre downstairs) and learning all about the wolves was fascinating. We lucked out in that there were two wolf cubs while we were there who we got to play with. Something I will never forget! Charlene and Thomas were wonderful, very hospitable and great about sharing their knowledge of wolves and hiking in the Bozeman area.

Yelp
We went there during our August US tour and were first amazed by the site. The location is GREAT: quiet, fresh air, nice view. Room was perfectly clean, beds comfortable. Next, the staff is friendly and is providing a warm welcome. Breakfast is delicious and gives a good starting point for the day. Oh, I forgot to mention what made me go to Howlers Inn in the first place: the Wolves! We'll come back for sure

Yelp
I have never felt more unwelcomed in my entire life. The website says its family friendly but it is 100% not family friendly! The look on their faces when we walked in with two young children were of utter disgust. Remind you during the reservation we advised two children would be with us. They then proceed to force us into the guest house, which was reserverd by another person in our party and is more expensive and did not include breakfast. While touring the property the host even had the audacity to point out that our 3 year old left behind a fingerprint. A fingerprint!!! After we noticed the unwelcoming attitude from both of the host we asked if they would like for us to leave, no harm no foul. They then insisted they were fine with the children being there, which was a lie. Throughout the week staying there we mad sure our kids never went back into the main lodge unless it was to go in the front door then to the porch door (about 10 feet) where the observation deck is for their pet wolves. (Yes pets, this is not a wolf sanctuary) Well low and behold a guest spilled something on the floor. I along with with numerous other guest in our party were approached by the hosts attempting to blame the children for the spill. The male host was absolutely rude when asking about it. Even stating someone was going to have to pay for the cleaning. Also during the stay both host were very hovering and did not respect guest's privacy. I guess you could say if you want to stay with the Carol Baskin and Howard Baskin of the Wolf World this is your place!

Yelp
We visited the Howlers Inn in August 2017 and stayed in the Aspen room. I don't even know where to begin to sing the praises of this unique place. Charlene greeted us as it was Aurelie and Nate's day off and she was so warm and friendly. Aurelie and Nate were there for breakfast the next two mornings and they we friendly and extremely accommodating to my gluten free needs. I always appreciate this. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was ready nice and early! The Inn is a gorgeous place, the grounds are spectacular and the house is so warm and beautiful. There's a sauna, a place to exercise with some weights and mini trampoline, a hot tub, a large movie screen TV downstairs, DVDs, a living room type area on the first floor, and the rooms upstairs. Outdoors there are decks, a covered porch with seating and the enclosures for the wolves. The wolves a breathtaking, truly. We were fortunate enough to hear them howling and get some videos of them howling together. All in all our stay here was simply incredible and I look forward to going back in the future and staying for a longer, more relaxed visit.

Yelp
I loved everything about Howler's Inn. As we were a family of 3 traveling with a teenager, we chose to stay in the guest house which cost a little more and only included breakfast if we paid an extra $10 pp/per day. We opted to make our own breakfast, which was incredibly easy as the Howler's Inn provided everything we could possibly need! They had coffee beans, a coffee grinder, plastic sandwich bags, and every pot and pan we could want. On July 4th we used their outdoor grill, too, which was a treat. Everything about this bed and breakfast is charming--from the wide open views to the adorable couple who owns it to the log cabin feel with extremely comfortable beds. I want to come back in another season and stay for longer! Though there is a living room in the guest house, there is also a rec room in the main house that includes a pool table, a sauna, board games, and a place to watch movies. And I haven't even mentioned the wolves yet! I could watch them for hours! It was a slice of heaven. Don't hesitate to book this very special place.

Yelp
Be forewarned: superlatives ahead. If you don't care for superlatives of a positive nature, you may want to skip this review. We just returned from an overnight stay at the Inn and I'm ready to go back. Right now. The lodge is beautiful. It has a rustic feel to it, but it is modern, clean, and welcoming. My immediate impression was that it could easily be home. Set in the mountains east of Bozeman, it feels in perfect harmony with its surroundings. Views in all directions are gorgeous. The sense of peace and calm is pervasive. I think my blood pressure dropped eight points just parking the car. The hosts, Auriele and Nate were wonderful. Easy going and so easy to talk to, they made us feel like we had known them forever. They were always available but they were never intrusive. They let our experience at their inn, be ours...but were readily available for any questions or needs we had. We stayed in the Southwest room, overlooking two enclosures that are home to the Inn's four wolves. Shasta, Koa, Chinook and Tahoe, the gorgeous Wolves of Howler's Inn, were the last things we saw at sunset and the first things we saw at dawn. We spent nearly the entire stay watching them interact with each other. Wolves are highly intelligent, social animals, fascinating to observe. and the time we spent with them passed much too quickly. Our room was beautiful, tastefully decorated and comfortable. After a day spent in the mountains, we retired early and slept well..although I admit I woke several times...listening for any howling of wolves outside our windows For breakfast, Auriele prepared caramel apple French Toast and it was delicious. (It may have ruined me for French toast prepared by anyone else.) We dined with two other guests that were visiting Montana for the first time. The conversation was friendly and relaxed and it was fun listening to their excitement about exploring the area. Again, it felt like we were conversing with people we had known forever. I think this is the nature, and the magic, of Howler's Inn. Our stay was an amazing experience. From the time spent with the wolves to the simple elegance of the Inn and the tranquility of the mountain setting, topped off by customer service so good that it that it almost redefines the term, every moment we spent there was a treasure. There is no doubt we will visit again. For me, it can't be soon enough.

Yelp
We spent our 32nd anniversary here - it was an incredible - relaxing - and a magical experience. Our hosts (Chris and Mary Martha) were terrific - welcoming us into their home and family; making us feel very comfortable. The wolves were the icing on the cake - seeing the love and passion that Chris and his family have for these animals made my heart sing. They took the time to talk about the wolves and wrote a detail story about each wolf that is on the sanctuary that was in our room for our reading pleasure. The bed and breakfast is in a wonderful location - outside of town but yet close enough to drive in for dinner. The hard work Mary Martha puts into the business amazed me - she not only cooks INCREDIBLE breakfasts - but the upkeep of the Inn and the upkeep of the wolves is a lot of work!! Mary Martha's passion for this place is obvious and truly was appreciated by myself and my husband!! It's a place like no other B&B we have ever stayed - a jewel - a place that will always be in our memory banks as one of the top places we were blessed to have spent some of our time.

Yelp
What an amazing place! My wife and always stay at bed and breakfasts wherever we go and we found this place online with the added bonus there was a wolf sanctuary! We arrived and we're warmly greeted by the hosts, who gave us the grand tour of their B & B. After the tour, my wife and I took our son to see the wolves! It was very cool to see them roam their pastures and interact with each other. The rooms are very clean, warm and well appointed. The other guests were nice and had open conversations, as did the owners. There are numerous amenities here including a hot tub, sauna, full selection of DVDs and Netflix for viewing, and an abundance of nearby outdoor activities. My wife and I live in Montana, and we have wolves in and around our own property, but seeing them this close was amazing. The breakfast and service was amazing! We will return!

Yelp
We stayed at an off peak time so had the whole place to ourselves. The wolves were fun to watch and we got to see the owners interact with them. So many amenities and the breakfast was 5 star quality. Perfectly distanced from interstate, ski hill and Nordic center.

Yelp
Went out of my way to stop here on my way back to California. It's spectacular. The wolves are amazing. The food is fantastic. The perfect out of the way spot to get out of the way. I can't wait to come back.

Virginia W.

Yelp
Just stayed there one very snowy day at end of January & agree with all the praise heaped on this wondrous B&B experience, thanks to warm-hearted hosting of Chris & Mary-Martha, esp. M-M's tasty breakfasts. Of course, the wolves stand out as a whole extra course! Highly recommend.

Yelp
This place was AMAZING!! Do not miss this place if you love wolves!! They have several wolves in a couple acres that are fenced in. To listen to them howl at night or in the morning is a spiritual experience. From here you can Drive into Bozeman, Livingston, or even Yellowstone. The room we had was large and comfortable. Food was great. We dream of revisiting on our next trip through Montana

Yelp
I stayed for the second time last week. Chris and Mary Martha are superb hosts who are attentive to your every need. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable with some spectacular views of the mountains. Our room was directly over the wolves. It was so wonderful to see them playing and to hear them howl! Breakfast was always very good. You're right in the middle of everything between Bozeman and Livingston. Yellowstone is about an hour and a half away and Bridger Bowl is minutes away if you like to ski.

Yelp
I'm not a "B and B" sort of person but my daughter was interested in the wolf rescue aspect of it. I can't say enough about our two nights there. Wonderful home on a hill, very friendly hosts who were more than willing to share information about the area and places to see. The wolves were right outside the window and so much fun to watch and listen to. Hot tub and movies were a bonus. Delicious breakfasts! Wonderful location close to Montana State and a beautiful drive to Yellowstone. Highly recommended.

Giles S.

Yelp
There are 4 wolves behind Lundy fences. The owner is uncertain if they are Alaskan Wolves or Canadian Greys. Yellowstone was rewilded by Canadian wolves so it's a fair bet they are Canadians. She wouldn't tell me how they were acquires. The property is a beautiful and extremely isolated location. I got here at dusk and the rather proprietress made me tour the B&B up and down the stairs several times before I could break free to see the wolves in the dusk. (Fortunately I had a flash). I'm leaving at 6am to fish trout with the Bozeman Anglers Society [heartily recommended], but the Howler's Inn owner doesn't know what time dawn was or if I'd be able to see the wolves again in the morning light. To be fair, I think she was angry at me because I cancelled the second evening of my booking. I only did this because she raised the rate for the second night, claiming that the shoulder months ended on April 30 and the Summer rates began on May 1st. It is April 30th 7:50pm and it is snowing here. It's good to know that tomorrow is summer. :)

Yelp
We spent one wonderful night and breakfast with Chris and Mary Martha as our hosts. It was clear from the moment we met for the first time that they were focused on their guests comfort and experience. Great breakfast, always fun meeting other guests and learning of other neat trips and places to see. Seeing the wolves that live in their side yard is also a treat. Thumbs up! Great business you have Chris and Mary Martha!

Mark N.

Yelp
Our family have been coming to the Howlers Inn for over 6 years now and it is always a magical experience. Chris and Mary Martha are terrific hosts and make you feel very welcome, not to mention the amazing breakfasts! Of course, the wolves are majestic and nowhere else could you get this close to wolves, we can't say enough positive things, if you are thinking about booking just do it, you won't be disappointed.
