5 hot spring resorts within Taiwan's East Coast that will rejuvenate your senses - SilverKris

"A family-friendly bed-and-breakfast at the foot of a mountain, featuring a spacious courtyard, outdoor swimming pool, and a lively outdoor waterpark with fountains, slides, and swings to entertain children while parents relax in large outdoor hot springs. Rooms are clean and comfortable (some include in-room hot spring tubs), and the on-site restaurant serves homestay-style meals, making it a practical choice for families seeking both fun and relaxation." - Syahirah Mazlan and ORION RAY-JONES

Spacious and clean rooms. We stayed in the Villa, which looked pretty new. The poor reviews are for the older rooms. Loved the bathrooms with the hot springs baths. The hot springs pool was also very relaxing and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious, not much to do around the hotel, but it was nice stop for us between Hualien and Kenting.

We had a sweet holiday weekend at the Hoya Resort. The entire resort is wrapped in a pretty water garden. It's equipped with an outdoor swimming pool which I enjoyed very much -- in the winter. Near it, there are various outdoor hot spring pools, a steam room, and a sauna. The Taiwanese food in the resort restaurant is good. We dined in throughout our stay. We very much appreciated the courteous and well-trained staff's hospitality. We think they are sweet and very decent, their non-extravagant gestures providing such natural human to human connection.

Hoya has three sections: the hotel, the old cabins, and the new villas. We stayed in the villas, which were brand new in Dec 2023. Some of the staff has basic English. My partner is a native speaker, so we did not have language issues. The hotel is about a 5 minute drive from the train station and town. They have a free shuttle, though a taxi is only about NT$150. ||I'll get the bad part out now. My main issue with our room is the shower hot water. As I said, the villas are brand new and maybe they will have this fixed by the time you get there. We ran out of hot water several times and when we had hot water the temperature was not too stable. This was the only negative about Hoya. ||There are a few minor annoyances about the villa room we had. The bedroom needs nightstands. We took a side table from the other room and used a chair for nightstands. There are no usb ports, so be sure to have your own adapters. There is not much storage space for the size of the room and only a small closet/hanger area.||The in-room spa worked fine, but took a long time (maybe 6-8 minutes) to get the hot water. The owner said that in the evening after a certain time, they flush the pipe with clean water to reduce corrosion, so I think that is what happened to us. Once the water flushed and we got hot springs water, there was not a problem.||Hoya has public hot springs plus in-room soaking tubs. If you want a public pool experience, Hoya is a good choice. Butterfly Valley Resort is another. You can use the pools even if not staying at Hoya. There are also steam and dry saunas available near the cold plunge pool (it's easy to miss them in the line of private rooms there). Hoya has a cold pool, a warm pool (35C) and middle pool (38C) and a hot pool (41C). The temperatures varied by about 1C. There is also a kiddie pool and a swimming pool. The saunas were not especially hot (maybe low 80's C).||The public hot springs area has a changing and shower rooms plus a handful of lockers. The path from the hot springs entrance to the changing rooms could use a hand rail and is not easy for someone with mobility issues.||Hoya has a dinner service, which you need to reserve with them ahead of time. We ate there one night and it was good. It is a few limited choices.||The breakfast buffet is quite nice, with a few western choices and standard Taiwanese choices too. You might want to ask if tour buses are coming through and get to the buffet early if so. There were 2 busses there one morning and it was overfull when we arrived for breakfast. We had to wait a bit for them to clear out and the staff to re-stock the buffet.||Villas are two floors. There is no elevator. The stairs are pretty manageable, as long as you can handle the luggage.||The wall heater is pointed right at the beds. It can be a little annoying when it goes on and off. There is a function on the remote called swing, which will adjust the louvers up and down. If you would just them in the upper position, it doesn’t blow right on the bed. You can use the Google Translate app and snap a picture of the remote to see what all the buttons do.||I think they expect you to take off your shoes outside the Villa rooms, but they don’t provide a bench or seating, or place to put your shoes outside the room. When we looked at the cabins across the street, they had benches and shoe storage outside the rooms.||The villa floors are a wood grain tile, so they do get cold. You will want to have your own indoor slippers. The provided slippers are small for a western men’s foot.

One of our rest stops for our Tour De Taiwan trip and I am amazed by the hospitality of the customer service including the CEO who hosted us as a group. ||Great facilities and nice spa you must enjoy. Excellent breakfast and dinner and certainly helps us in our rest and recovery for next day ride. ||Laundry - washing machine water dispensing machine available at a minimum charge and please take care of the little dog when you are there ;)

A little out of town but probably nice if you are into the spa and relaxation side. Felt a little run down. Breakfast was pretty basic. Room was average. Spa was nice but I think the temperature sensor of the main pool was off because it was lukewarm saying 37C or so... Price was a little much for what it was.

Nice place and great rest point for our cycling trip round Taiwan. Excellent hospitality from the host and service team. Great dinner and breakfast for our recovery. Love the spa and room. There is washing machine available at a complimentary TWD30 per wash.

Hoya is our goto hot spring near Ruisui. The water has some sediment and is thus slightly muddy in color. The baths (rotenburo) are large in size and there is also a kiddie pool as well as a lap pool. For bicyclists, the hoya hot springs is a 12-15 minute easy bike ride from the Ruisui station. The old hotel rooms are basic but serve their function, and the new rooms are pricier but very nice indeed. Both are a stone's throw from the hot spring. Ruisui is also known for their pineapples as well as pomelos... Enjoy!

The hotel room was excellent. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet. The hot pools were clean and wonderfully relaxing, especially the moulded lounge chairs in the 36C pool with the massaging jets. All the different jets were fantastic after a long day of climbing cyclcing!! The breakfast was fantastic for cycling- lots of scrambled eggs, 2 different veggie dishes with chicken and tofu, rice, soup and other condiments. The only disappointing thing was dinner which was a small amount of fish, cold steamed broccoli/carrots with steamed rice--very little for $300!
