We were so looking forward to eating at Huckleberry for a full dinner, but plans got changed late in our New Paltz adventure, and we had to settle for drinks and appetizers instead. No worries, our experience here was still awesome, and we look forward to coming back for a longer meal (preferably out on the adorable patio) before the summer's over!
Huckleberry is a hidden gem eatery located literally off the beaten path of New Paltz's main drag, and the cuisine is New American with a farm to table flair - just what we like, honestly! They also have an incredible selection of locally made beers and other spirits, and even though I didn't drink, I had my eye on an interesting sounding lemon lime sour beer.. yum! I loved that they offered a list of mocktails along with the alcoholic offerings, and my grapefruit and seltzer based drink was awesome - the perfect blend of tart, sweet, tangy, and refreshing on a warm July evening!
The restaurant itself is unique, in that there are a few different places to dine, but all have their own atmosphere and vibe. The aforementioned outdoor patio is a large space with millennial friendly twinkle lights, an alfresco bar, and plenty of seating; the first floor bar is warm and well lit, reminiscent of a gastropub bar; and the upstairs is a more intimate space with great views of the sunset over the mountains, candles on every table, and shabby-chic chandeliers hanging above. No matter where you go, you'll have a fun time, as the casual-homey aesthetic permeates throughout the entire restaurant.
I wish we had more time to order entrees! Everything on the menu, from a house made Banh Mi sandwich to a Poached Salmon entree with gazpacho looked amazing, but we settled for a shared plate of White Bean Hummus. It was very simple, but well prepared, with a variety of pickled veggies (the beans were INCREDIBLE), and warm pita bread, which was sooooo addictive! I wish there had been more! We were obsessed, honestly.
Service could have been a tad more attentive - I felt like we spent half of the time trying to find our server between the levels of the restaurant, and running up and down a narrow flight of stairs isn't the most ideal way to spend date night, but when we got her attention, she was friendly and personable. I hope we can come back here for a full meal soon!
