Hudson Theatre

Very nice historic theater to see a Broadway show. You can see the stage from almost everywhere with a feeling of closeness. We saw Lin-Manuel Miranda in “All About” and enjoyed the performance. Recommended venue!

Having seen several productions at Hudson Theatre, including Merrily We roll along and once upon a mattress, I decide to do an inside tour of the theater with Broadway Up Close. Built in 1903, when the Times Square area was first being developed, it’s now the longest running theater in Broadway, it was originally intended for plays but given the popularity of musicals, it’s use primarily for musicals now which is somewhat challenging because the stage is not very deep. Another fun fact is that the original owners of the theater, the Harris‘s, were on the Titanic and sadly only the wife survived. The Theater was not used for productions for many years and was then renovated for two years.

Such a beautiful theatre! I’m seen two shows here Merrily We Roll Along and Once Upon A Mattress. The stage is smaller with no orchestra pit. The orchestra plays in the back on the theatre. If you plan on getting orchestra tickets plan to sit in row 5 ish. That is the best few. I sat in room three and although it was amazing it was a little too close to see everything!

I love this theater so much! It’s one of my favorites on Broadway. The lobby is massive and allows traffic to flow freely when entering and exiting the orchestra. The stairs up to the mezzanine are wide. I never feel claustrophobic.

Love these old NY theatres! The Hudson Theatre is a nice, cozy, old theatre with great staff. They all seemed so helpful and attentive. I got a Rush ticket for Once Upon A Mattress and had a great time. This place is a gem.

The show I watched at this theatre was Once Upon a Mattress. It was a really funny old tale I would say. It was a musical show, with an orchestra. The actors’ outfits were very shiny, bright, and catchy. It’s really suitable for children. The theatre was big and very crowded. They had custom cup, merch, and a place to take photo. I sat all the way at the back of the balcony since I booked the ticket last minute, but I could still see the stage clearly. I would recommend it

I have seen multiple shows at this theater and they never disappoint. The rating is because of an issue I gad with ticketing. My tickets didn’t show up in my email and I called to have them resent. The wait was long and the recording stated it there was an unusually large call volume. It happens sometimes so I continued to wait. I dud not choose the call back as I preferred to wait. At exactly the 32 minute mark the recording again stated they were busy and said to send an email or leave a voicemail and the call disconnected. I thought it was a glitch and called back. Again at exactly 32 minutes I was disconnected. If this was going to happen you should not be allowed to be on hold only to be disconnected. The wait didn’t bother me until the second disconnect.

The Hudson Theater is truly a remarkable venue. I had the opportunity to watch Arthur Miller's 'Death of a Salesman' there, and the experience was exceptional. The atmosphere inside the theater is simply superb. One of the unique features is the lobby, which houses a mini bar where you can purchase drinks and even enjoy them while watching the play. This adds a delightful touch to the overall theater experience. In summary, the Hudson Theater provides not only outstanding performances but also a well-crafted atmosphere that enhances the enjoyment of the arts. It's a place where you can savor both the play and your favorite beverage, making it a memorable evening out.

The Hudson Theatre is a fine place to catch a show!. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in, and the ushers were lightning fast to remind people to turn their phones off- a small but highly appreciated detail that made the showing of Once Upon a Mattress focused on the actors and story instead of distractions. The seats were comfortable, and there were no audio issues at all, so everything felt good to go. The guy coughing and sniffling next to me probably should have stayed home but, that's not the theatre's fault and luckily I didn't seem to get sick. After the show, the stage door experience was polite and well-organized, even though only a few cast members came out. No issues during this show.

The Ambassador Lounge is a comfortable bar upstairs from the main theater entrance with a friendly and efficient staff, providing a great way to relax before the show and during intermission. It has a separate coat check and bathrooms. I thought it was well-worth the $60 supplement to the ticket for the show. They limit capacity, so it's best to buy a ticket for the lounge at the same time as buying tix for the show. As for the theater itself, seats are pretty standard. It's difficult to avoid stepping on toes to get to seats in the middle. Once Upon a Mattress was excellent. Sutton Foster is so darn funny!

We saw All In at the Hudson Theater on Sunday. Really nice theater, and amazing show! It was sweet, funny, and a bit "out there" all at the same time. Very limited run - see it if you can!!!

This is a very opulent theater - with three seating sections - the orchestra, center circle and then the balcony. The bathroom situation is HORRID here, because it's such a LARGE theater you would think there would be more bathrooms, especially for women. I came to see Merrily We Roll Along, and LOVED the performance. However, it's right next to the Belasco Theater and you could hear the cicada noises from Appropriate (but we did also hear some noise at the Belasco Theater too). You don't choose the show based on the theater in NYC especially this year with so many new shows, but this one is middle of the group. Comfortable seats with decent leg room (and we were nose bleeds). I will say the concessions here seemed the most exciting, with frozen drinks. Tip: Go to the basement for the women's bathroom - I thought I could use the one in the center circle, but that is only two stalls. There is a men's restroom in the balcony.

I had a great experience here seeing Merrily We Roll Along! The show itself is fantastic. Definitely a must see! The story is heartwarming and you can't beat music composed by Stephen Sondheim. Daniel Radcliffe is also one of the leads, so it's great for the Harry Potter fans! The theater itself is very beautiful. We had seats in the mezzanine and they were very sloped, which was great for eye lines. As a short person, I loved that I could see so clearly! The bar had some fun signature drinks. They serve everything in glassware, which is not the norm for theater. It definitely gave the cocktails an elevated feel! My one negative is the limited bathrooms. I would suggest jumping up as soon as the act is over to make sure you get in line before it is too long! Overall, I would definitely recommend this theater, especially while Merrily We Roll Along is there!

This is a great theater...seemingly modern for an old theater, ample room in the seat, good pitch to view the stage in Orch seating. Saw Merrily here May '24. Good air flow.. I was fortunate to sit row M which has a huge aisle in front of it, so no one for at least 6 feet in front of me. But what's the deal with the glass Voss sparkling water bottles ? August Wilson serves the same in plastic. Who is carrying all that glass in & out of the theater to stock &hopefully recycle. Honestly, 8 bucks was not bad, however if you sold cans of Schweppes, the mark up would be even better and much simpler to store & stock. Oh boy... I was ready to write that I do not recall being in this theater before and as I go to press "Post Review" I see another playbill from the wonderful "Just for Us" that I saw last year..how funny !

Beautiful theater! The staff was very efficient and the show we saw was terrific. The concession stand had a decent assortment of snacks and treats.

I have to say I was really pleased with the Hudson Theatre in NYC. Well appointed and spacious, even the seats were pretty comfortable. The big + was the Ambassador Club access, which was included with our seat selection. We had access to this posh space for one hour before curtain and at intermission. The Ambassador club is a private space, decked out in 1940s glory with private rest rooms only for its guests (no lines!), two bartenders making custom cocktails, snacks and old standards (fitting the setting) playing on the speaker system. A great way to decompress from the craziness of Manhattan before a theatre experience. Also a great escape at intermission when the lines for the main restrooms seem to go on forever. We'll be sure to come back, but only with Ambassador Club access. Hudson Theatre does Broadway right.

Purchased our tickets through TodayTix and were pleased with our orchestra level seats. The cast of Once Upon a Mattress is star studded and full of energy. It's a very fun show. Theater was comfortable, ushers were friendly, and it was a great night on Broadway!

Came here to see Daniel Radcliffe in Merrily We Roll Along. I purchased ambassador lounge access and was the first one into the theater for the 7 PM Tuesday night show. The lounge is elegant, with dark paint and jewel tones. Service is exquisite. You get a complimentary glass of Prosecco, but can order other drinks, including drinks to take into the theater. If I can't buy a lounge ticket, I'm not sure I want it . . . I've become accustomed to the private bathrooms and coat check! Also, while relaxing in the lounge, our server told us about the history. The lounge has photos on the wall from the Hudson archive, featuring celebrities who have performed at the theater previously. I was sat in a place where Elvis once sat. The theater itself is clean and beautiful. Staff are helpful. I sat in center orchestra, row C, right in the middle. I heard someone behind me say they chose row D because they read it was the best. I thought C was perfect, as I was very close, but not so close that I had to crane my head upward. No one's head was blocking my view. Row D was probably pretty good too, but I wouldn't trade places. Some people complained about the seats, but I found them comfortable. Not cramped, not too soft or too hard. Supportive. This venue hosts big names and well-known productions. I would definitely see a show here again. With ambassador tickets for sure!

Beautiful theatre great performances by wonderful actors . Theatre a must when in NY in my opinion and this theatre was large in comparison to other ones that I've been to. Very comfortable seating with great leg room

Adored the hell out of the Hudson. We came for the spectacular show 'Merrily We Roll Along' and were delighted by the service, design, and atmosphere. Learning about the history from the enthusiastic usher while in line for the restroom was something special. I really hope there are future shows we wanna see on this stage again, because it was quite a treat!

This theater is beautiful and you can get a good view wherever you're seated. We sat in the balcony and were able to see everything clearly. The sound was also loud and clear which is important given it's a musical.

Smaller theater but still great seating in the balcony. Watch out for taller people because if they are sitting in front of you, you're losing a third of the view of the stage for sure. The seats up on balcony are a bit squished so you may find your knees bumping against the backs of the seats in front of you or you'll find yourself sitting extra straight for the show. Other than that, there are bathrooms and bars so you're good.

The renovation means the seats are a bit wider and there's more leg room than other theaters -- YAY! But, why was my butt so uncomfortable during the second act? I very happy I paid full price for a seat in row J. Like many NYC theaters, you can't access the bathrooms until they open the house and that won't be until exactly 30 minutes before showtime. So don't show up too early. If you're here to see the magical trio of leads in Merrily, you will not be disappointed! The ensemble is also great, and a special shout out to the costumes crew.

Last weekend my fiancé and I saw Merrily We Roll Along at this theatre. I paid for the Dress Circle seats and they were AMAZING and worth the price. Dress Circle is the middle section. They have less seats so it's comfier and not crowded. I was in the dab middle and could see the entire stage. The bars on each floors were helpful and roomy.

We were lucky enough to see "Merrily we roll along" here in December. The theater is a great size and the acoustics were very good. We had thr VIP pass to the ambassador lounge and thoroughly enjoyed it! I would not hesitate to see another show here. It was easy to get see everything happening in the olay and we had no line of sight issues. The other theater goers were so nice and everyone was happy to be there. We did have a problem with the man taking tickets who didn't know that the VIP people got in early and therefore we lost some time before the show. Other than that, excellent experience.

I saw Alex Edelman here - tight seats but show was fabulous. This theatre is incredibly old 1902 with tons of history. This comedy show is 75 minutes with no intermission. So when you do arrive, use the facility immediately on the main floor before the show. The show is in NYC until 8/19. It certainly is an ornate theatre. Tons of mirrors and chandeliers. Very big bar and a large lobby. You can hear very well from anywhere in the theatre I am told. The molding in the theatre is fabulous too and there are marble tiles, arched ceiling and wonderful lighting as well. I wouldn't bring too much with me into the theatre as there really is no place to put packages and of course, they wand you when you come thru!

Beautiful theater, drinks served in glass, TWO THUMBS DOWN for cash tips only at the bar why is your Apple Pay not programmed to tip them? :( at least have them display their Venmo or something!

Nice and comfortable theater. Seats weren't too crowded compared to other theaters but not the most roomiest either. Bathrooms are conveniently located. I saw a Doll's House with Jessica Chastain. The play (not a musical) is very stripped down and mostly focused on dialogue with very little props, set decor, or even movement of the actors. If you are looking for a thought provoking, serious in nature theater experience, this is an excellent option. It's not for you if want costumes and exciting song and dance. Jessica Chastain nailed her performance.

Great little theater. Felt intimate. Any further sat into the wings and we would have missed some of the blocking on stage, but not enough to affect the show I think.

The theater is beautiful but the seats are so uncomfortable, and everyone in the theater has their legs up against the chair in front of them. It's. AWFUL! I'm assuming they just tried to put more seats in the theater and that's why they made them so close together one in front of the other.. as beautiful as the theater is I'm not sure how quick I would be to see another show here because the seats are so bad. I'm also at intermission listening to everyone else complaining. Also, the bathrooms on the second floor in the women's bathroom third to stalls . Yes, you heard it only 2 stalls..

Merrily We Roll Along blew me away! The entire experience is magical, so now of course I have to recommend it to everyone I know!! The theater itself is pretty. I didn't want to break the bank so I bought tickets that were a few rows lower than the top-most row in the Balcony section. Despite being so high up, it's still pretty good views and you see the entire stage :) I guess only cons about being Balcony is you only get the tiniest view of the orchestra section, which sits atop the stage.

Beautiful theater! I especially enjoyed the Tiffany glass in the foyer while I was waiting for my drink order. We went to see "Merrily" and of course I had to research the theatre's history; I was shocked to see it is both one of the oldest AND newest theaters on Broadway due to its storied history. I'm glad it was restored and reopened so we can enjoy the beautiful work. We sat on the balcony and had a great view of the entire show; no obstructions in our way. The seats were more comfortable than other theaters I've been to, which is nice when you have to sit for 2 1/2 hours.

Hudson Theatre is one of the oldest venue built since 1902-1903 with lots of history. We came to see Jessica Chastain in A Doll's House at Hudson Theatre. Show runs till June 10, 2023. The play is a drama, so if you are looking for a comedy or a musical this is not the show to see. Heard one of the patrons mention there is no comedy or any funny lines. The play is 90 minutes with no intermission. You can bring drinks in to the show. Had a prosecco which hit the spot. So no bathroom breaks. Bathrooms are located downstairs. Doors close promptly, so make sure you get in your seats before show starts. Even though theatre has been renovated, seats are comfortable as for space- you still need to get up so others can pass through. It's not the Gershwin Theater.

Clean beautiful restoration. Set clean comfortable and roomy. Acoustics were great. I can't wait to go back. Show was fabulous- merrily we roll along

Won a $39 ticket lottery and had to decide fast if I wanted to see a 2pm Wednesday show. Glad I seized the opportunity. The lottery allocates all the unsold seats. I got H 116-the VERY LAST row of balcony (the very last level of seats, after orchestra and mezzanine)--all you see is the ceiling straight in front of you. Standing up, I touched the ceiling. I was so high up that I started getting slightly dizzy, as I leaned down to glimpse the stage. Didn't love these seats, as I couldn't see the faces and mimicry of actors. The performance started at 2:05, had a 15 minute intermission, a 3 minute break (no one left their seats, the theater lights were out), and ended at 4:40. All the seats were sold out. The crowd demographics was predominantly adults aged 50 and older. Alcohol and concessions were consumed in profusion by the multitude of tourists in the audience. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Roderick were incredible. For over two hours, the two of them owned the stage in three sketches, all taking place in the famous Plaza Hotel in 1968. The three stories that were played out did not relate to each other in any way. All were hilarious. The audience was rolling in laughter. Grab a jacket. The theater gets cold after intermission.

With ornate chandeliers and impressive mirrors, the lobby of this theater is beautiful. They have a large concession bar directly outside the entrance to the theater. Seating was pretty roomy and bathrooms were conveniently located on some of the upper levels. I came to see A Doll House and although the set design was minimalist, they made inventive use of the stage.

I purchased resale tickets via Stubhub. The seller must not have understood how to do resale, because we were sent a partial picture of two printed out tickets. Smartly, we came to the box office early to see if the tickets would be an issue. The gentleman at the booth advised the tickets would not work and gave us the number to Stubhub to resolve the issue. After 15 minutes into a call with Stubhub it was becoming more obvious there would be nothing Stubhub could do to help us get into a show that day. But the gentleman at the ticket booth kept putting us at ease. He told us to wait in the cancellation line as there was a chance that tickets could become available. And if that didn't work, there might be tickets available for the evening show. While waiting in line, Stubhub completely refunded me and gave me a voucher for use on future tickets. I was still worried we would have made this trip only to not be able to fulfill this little dream of my daughter's to see this show. A woman came over to our line who I believe to be a manager asking about our experience. She wanted to make sure Stubhub had been fair, which they had. She also made us feel more assured everything would work out for us. Sure enough, 15 minutes from curtain, the gentleman at the ticket booth called us over and we were able to purchase two tickets even better than the ones we thought we had bought resale! Every single part of this experience was exemplary. The confidence and assurance we were given prevented me from freaking out and then delivering with the tickets just made this little impromptu trip something extraordinary.

The "oldest newest theater" in NYC. That's how this beautiful theater is described by those in the know. The theater is a stunning architecturally with carvings, marble mosaic tiles, pillars, arched ceiling, ornate lighting & moldings, along with crystal chandeliers- a true gem- a must see. The Hudson Theater is well kept & immaculate. This is the perfect backdrop to a fabulous Broadway show. Welcome to NYC!

A small theatre on 44th street near Broadway. Staff were friendly and helpful. This is a small place. I sat within the orchestra section. Seats were a bit too lumpy but not too bad. The audio was a bit too low from the play, however there was a decent view of the stage. Restrooms are very small.

Just saw my FIRST EVER Broadway play here. I had to see Jessica Chastain in "A Doll's House." Broadway is strict on time, so show up or you'll be locked how like how I was 30 seconds away from being- all in all, a wonderful experience. Well-ventilated and the acoustics were awesome.

Great historic theater. We saw Merrily We Roll Along, and the acoustics were great, and it seemed every seat in the house was a good seat.

They have a great lead actress in it look at look her up because she did awesome roles in movies like the zookeeper's wife she does great monologues, great performance and since it's all her with no Decour a set, you can see it's all her acting in this play The drama, the realism is amazing it's a show you should see.

Better than average theater. Beautifully renovated. Comfy chairs. Good HVAC. Excellent acoustics.

Very comfortable and cozy venue! We saw the famous death of a salesman. It was our first actual on broadway show. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house, we sat in the orchestra but the balcony's look as if they offered great views as well. This like many theatre's was very old but well kept with friendly and helpful staff. If you love dramas then this play is for you! It stars famous actor Wendell Pierce as he plays the the main character Willy Lohman. He and the rest of the cast do a great job at portraying the raw emotion required by this play-write. We would see another show here again in the future for sure and look forward to seeing many more broadway shows.

We saw plaza suite w SJP n MB. Amazing to see such great actors. The balcony seats are a little high if you are afraid of heights. The theater is so clean n well maintained.

Very steep up in the balcony but view was beautiful , no obstructions . Great play. Definitely something to see. The still resonates do this era. I.e. Being a workaholic and not being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor until it's way too late

The Hudson is a well maintained treasure. There's no burnt bulbs, bathrooms are updated, carpet isn't worn and best of all the seats are comfortable and not as tight as other theaters. This is amazing given the pandemic and that Broadway paid dearly during this time. We sat center balcony first row. There's restrooms on the first and second floors. The second floor only has two stalls for women, the first has nine!The second floor also has a bar. So upon entry on the first floor think about bypassing the crowded bar and head to the second floor. The staircase to the right of the entry is the long way up so skip that one. Gayle at the bar is sweet and helpful. Tip them well. They have masks once inside if you've forgotten yours. Don't forget to silence your phone, five people didn't during our show. Enjoy!!!

Went here for Sea Wall / A Life. Plays were very well written with some of the best on stage monologues I have ever watched. Gut wrenching tales from two men about their families. In regards to the theater it was meh...okay...partially around the ambiguity I had around the Ambassador lounge. Essentially it's just a room located inside the theater with a private bar and private bathroom which costs $40 per person. Seems a bit steep considering the tickets themselves for top level weren't much more. I guess if you have buco bucks to burn through around $80 for two people to avoid a bathroom line is worth it. Guy at the helm for admission to the Ambassador langue clearly seemed overwhelmed. Bar service in the general area moved quickly. It was $9 for a goose island IPA and $10 for a hard cider rose. They let you take the actual glass to the seat which is awesome and don't beat you over the head to buy the souvenir cup like most other big broadway venues. Women's room line was a bit long but men's room as you can imagine was only like three people at intermission. Ushers outside were great and since we got there so early the one recommended the dive bar across the street that had $3 bud lights and $5 shots. All and all a good experience.

I saw Parisian Woman with Uma Thurman here- won tickets I saw in there mezzanine on the right side. My seat was comfy but there was a draft from the door ( it was feb/march) Otherwise I had a good view even though I was up in the mezzanine

This was my first time visiting the Hudson Theatre to see the Broadway musical Head over Heels. The theatre is very beautiful, and captures the essence of a typical theatre you would find in this area. However, I was a little disappointed with the entry process to get into the theatre. It seemed very disorganized. I thought it was odd that some people were just able to walk in and others needed to go through security to do a quick bag search. Because my seats were all the way in the top section, I had to take the elevator. No one explained that I could use the stairs as an alternative. I was just directed straight to the elevator. The elevator had a line, and what I completely didn't understand was that they only allowed 5 people to go in the elevator at one time....which made the process much slower, having the elevator line loop around the the corner. There should be a better system in place for this.

This review is for both the theater and the drama running here at the moment: The Parisian Woman. I was lucky to see it last night (fyi, Broadway 2 for 1 is taking place through the beginning of February). The Hudson Theatre is a glamorous and opulent theater that represents Broadway quite well. As soon as you enter, you'll notice these magnificent chandeliers that adorn the ceiling. Since the Hudson Theater is average sized, nearly every seat in the house will be a good one. My personal preference is the dress circle level---the middle tier offering a perfect view of the raised stage. Acoustics, atmosphere and staff were all accommodating. The restrooms barely had a line and were maintained well. I also caught 1984 at the Hudson Theatre over the summer. Uma Thurman shines in her Broadway debut representing an angst ridden wife in a tumultuous, present day political setting right on Washington, D.C. Deception, corruption and lies were the main themes. Not too surprising when it comes to politics. BTW, if you're Trump supporter, this play took every opportunity to take stabs at him. Be prepared for that. Personally speaking, I'm not sure who could like him; I enjoyed the quips and of course, the entire play. There was more to the plot than just the Presidency and politics although it was the major theme and integrated for the duration of the play. The cast included just five characters, and each was fantastic. It was a one act, no intermission play that ran a little more than 90 minutes. Set design was beautiful and there were several humorous moments. I imagine it snagging a few Tony nominations when it rolls around. I absolutely adore the theater--both plays and musicals--and would highly recommend seeing this amazing play at such a glorious theater. Limited engagement through March. Catch it.

I visited this theater this past Thursday evening to watch Head Over Heels. Although I've only been to a 4 other theaters, I thought this one was one of the nicer ones. Although it was smaller if felt more intimate and the seats were cozier. I also felt that there was more leg room. The only thing strange about it is that the restrooms are in the back of the orchestra. There is no hallway separating the restroom from the theater itself. Also I got there early so I was able to witness everyone fill in the seats around me. One thing that stood out was the usher working that night on the orchestra level, house right. She was super welcoming and walked everyone to their respective seats. She was very helpful and guided everyone, especially those who had more center seats by initaiting the conversation with guests by the aisle seats that another group will be entering the row. In the other theaters I've been to, the ushers just pointed you to your seat from afar and you had to awkwardly tell people to get up so you can get to your seat in the middle. I wish the doors to the theater opened more on time as we all had to wait in the lobby for 10 or so minutes after showing our tickets at the front door. Another complaint was that there were two women a couple rows behind me who whispered throughout the entire musical! I was surprised no one called them out on it. Additionally people were let in between songs in the middle of the show and I thought it was very disruptive especially with the flashlights shining down the aisles showing people to their seats.

Original location of the first Tonight Show with Steve Allen on 9/27/1954. I am glad it still exists! Keep saving the old theaters!

The opulence of the 1903 theatre is something to sit back and appreciate. Although it would have been nice if some how there as n attempt to blend some of the House lighting for the stage. The seats were comfortable and not a bad seat in the house. There is not a lot of leg room, if you are a taller person go for one of the back seats that offer more space the side to stretch out. In August of 2018 we were there to see Head Over Heels. A quirky show all to the music of the Go-God, with a midevil twist. The 80s did pair well to mid-evil language.

Hudson Theater is a smaller theater although it is a good one. There is more than one bar and top of the line plays happen there. Theater is temporary closed due to Covid, but once it is up and running it is worth a visit.

Came here while on a quick work trip in NYC. Cute Theather, maybe fits 800-1000 people, easy to find location from the subway or Times Square. The major issue I had was the bathrooms. There's not enough especially for the short intermission. Of course the drinks and snack were like actual theft/ someone call the cops-not sure why they upsale to that extent.. my 5 oz cold brew cost $7... like huh? Some seats are obstructed but the stage is so small that it should be an issue. Casual attire is welcomed. Happy I was able to catch a show.

Without a doubt, Hudson is one of the nicer Broadway theatres. Taking multiple factors into account, such as comfort, upkeep, operations, and the audience's view from the stage, it checks all of the right boxes. Regarding comfort, I didn't actually notice the cushioned seats until after I sat down. They aren't exclusive to Hudson, of course, but based on past experience, cushioned doesn't always correlate with comfort. Often, it's because thousands of theatergoers wear them out over the years, reducing them to flimsy seat covers. But to be fair to those other Broadway venues, this one was renovated and reopened in 2017, which, admittedly, gives it an advantage. Although technically, Hudson does edge out Lyceum and New Amsterdam as the oldest theatre on Broadway. In terms of capacity, it's rather small, only accommodating 970 guests. The view from the audience is acceptable in most sections, but the caveat is that it's dependent on the individual show's stage setup. For example, during Burn This, those positioned too far to house left were unable to see the kitchen, whereas house right obscured the door to the character's apartment unit. Our tickets were in the fourth row of the Dress Circle, and we didn't miss a second. Overall, the theatre is clean and operates smoothly. Security keeps the line moving, and the ushers quickly (and politely) guide everyone to their seats. I wouldn't hesitate to see another show here - it's the ideal venue for performances with a minimalist set design, where the focus is on shared dialogue and character development.
