Without a doubt, Hudson is one of the nicer Broadway theatres. Taking multiple factors into account, such as comfort, upkeep, operations, and the audience's view from the stage, it checks all of the right boxes.
Regarding comfort, I didn't actually notice the cushioned seats until after I sat down. They aren't exclusive to Hudson, of course, but based on past experience, cushioned doesn't always correlate with comfort. Often, it's because thousands of theatergoers wear them out over the years, reducing them to flimsy seat covers. But to be fair to those other Broadway venues, this one was renovated and reopened in 2017, which, admittedly, gives it an advantage. Although technically, Hudson does edge out Lyceum and New Amsterdam as the oldest theatre on Broadway.
In terms of capacity, it's rather small, only accommodating 970 guests. The view from the audience is acceptable in most sections, but the caveat is that it's dependent on the individual show's stage setup. For example, during Burn This, those positioned too far to house left were unable to see the kitchen, whereas house right obscured the door to the character's apartment unit. Our tickets were in the fourth row of the Dress Circle, and we didn't miss a second.
Overall, the theatre is clean and operates smoothly. Security keeps the line moving, and the ushers quickly (and politely) guide everyone to their seats. I wouldn't hesitate to see another show here - it's the ideal venue for performances with a minimalist set design, where the focus is on shared dialogue and character development.
