Huey's promises New Orleans-inspired cuisine, but unfortunately, it fell short during our visit.
We ordered the combo fried shrimp and oysters, and it was a huge letdown. The fried oysters were riddled with bits of shell, making them inedible. Literally every piece of oyster had shell in it. There were more crumbs of breading than actual protein on the plate. What we thought was a shrimp was just breading with nothing in it. The shrimp were okay--nothing special--but lacked the bold seasoning you'd expect from New Orleans-style cooking. Definitely wouldn't recommend this dish.
The seafood linguini fared slightly better, with a generous amount of protein (shrimp, chicken, and andouille sausage). The sausage was tasty, but the dish was heavily tomato-forward and lacked the spice and depth you'd hope for. The bread served alongside it was stale, which didn't help.
The service was another issue. Most of the wait staff seemed out of it--many appeared high, and the smell lingered, which was off-putting. Service was polite but slow and not very sharp. Granted, it was the Saturday before Christmas, but it still didn't leave a good impression.
What saves Huey's from a complete miss is its location. The riverfront view from the big windows is stunning, and it's clear that's the main draw. I can see this being a decent spot for drinks by the water--the bar looked well-stocked--but for the price, the food and experience don't justify a return trip. If you're hungry and looking for good food, I'd say look elsewhere.
