It is a wonderland of kitsch exotica and midcentury eclectica. Carrying on the tiki torch lit by LA’s love of Polynesian-themed bars in the 50s and 60s, Hula Bula specialises in rum-based cocktails (sporting over 170 varieties of rum, many rare and unusual) and lush lounge tunes. OMG! What an experience! Hula Bula Bar is hands down the best cocktail spot in Perth. From the moment I walked in, I was transported to a tropical paradise – the vibe, the music, the decor… everything just hits the mark perfectly. But let’s talk about those cocktails – WOW. Every drink was crafted to perfection, bursting with flavour, and served with serious flair. You can tell the bartenders are true mixologists who love what they do. The hospitality? Absolutely on point. The team made me feel so welcome and added to the amazing atmosphere. It’s not just a bar – it’s a whole experience. Thank you for having me, Hula Bula! I’ll definitely be back soon – and bringing friends with me. 🌺🍹🔥

Checked this bar out last week for the first time as I didn’t know it existed! The bartenders are nice and friendly (shoutout to the guy with the man bun) the atmosphere is such a vibe 🤩. The drinks are pricey but are very delicious ☺️ It also can get a bit hot in there but went again last night and had a great time! I’d definitely come check this bar out! :)

I have been passing by this bar for many years but I never stopped by and what a waste! What a surprise for me was, what a wonderful experience! This looks like a tiki bar as the tropical atmosphere transport you in a Caribbean island with lots of palm trees and plants, rattan decor, masks and a wide variety of rum and refreshing cocktails. The Caribbean music is also a great way to enjoy the atmosphere and the drinks while being in a great company so for quite some time you forget to be in Perth.

Such a cool little place. Loved the hula theme. The cocktails were nice and the service was so good. We had a really nice time here.

Love this place! Can't get better decor anywhere you go in Perth. Hula Bula's exotic name tells you exactly what you'd expect when you walk inside. Feel good vibes. A Bar with bamboo busting out everywhere. Complete catalogue of carefully concocted cocktails.., can you ask for anymore when you're looking for a complete sensory taste sensation..? All the staff & customers are friendly, so anyone cannot help but feel welcome here. Hoora to Hula Bula Bar. Thanks for helping me choose a cool cocktail & making the end of my night feel right.

Very cool niche bar tucked away in the city. Best prices for happy hour and great cocktails. Look forward to going there again.

Google
Hulu Bula bar is a great place for late night drinks or cocktails which they have in abundance. Very small venue located Yeah close to Saint Mary's cathedral in the Perth cbd. Saff are very accommodating, lots of standing room with limited seating however still a great place to meet up and have some drinks.

Yelp
This place is hysterical! Super loud upbeat music, and the decor is a scream. Tiny dark bar interior and outdoor seating. Love the tiki theme. Our bartender was super nice and energetic. It's a Wednesday and only a few people in here and we got really good service. The bartender came by to check on our table and brought us a pitcher of water. My friends got ginger beer and a Jungle Buzzzzz cocktail $14 each and I got an SSB wine. Yes it is super dive and the prices are CBD prices. But this place is super fun. Board games on some tables. Lots of things to look at. The fake bear "rug" on the floor was funny. Great place to take out of town guests or to just catch a drink with friends.

Yelp
This place is a hoot!! Sure it's lost a bit of it's shine in recent years as the novelty factor has started to ware, but I personally think it's still worthy of it's 5 star rating - I love themed bars, especially when taken to full measure. It's like going to Disneyland. Hula Bula bar is itty-bitty in space but huge on character. It's walls are overflowing with Polynesian-tiki-kitsch and there is island music to match. Get stuck into one of their deeeelicious, oversized, tropical cocktails, each served in their own style of cup. The price might make you raise your eyebrows, but they're actually big enough for two. I'd say this is a fun place to stop for a drink en route to larger venues, with a group of friends or colleagues. It's not really somewhere you go to meet people, as the crowd is diminutive and mainly of close groups.

Yelp
This bar is so much fun. Great music, amazing bar tenders, such a cool fit out. If you are planning on visiting for after work drinks I would recommend booking a table as it does get very packed and is a small venue. The happy hour $10 specials are a perfect way to start a long night

Yelp
The Go To Cocktails Bar in Perth. My partner and I have been here many times now. We tried almost half of the menu list. It is quite pricy, but worth the cost! Always good time and yummy cocktails; never disappointed! Not like other bar in Perth, the bartender here can make good cocktail relatively quick. I never wait more than 10 mins... It is amazing if you know how difficult it is to get good cocktails in Perth without losing your patience waiting on the bar. My fav drinks is Lava Flow and Kato Monkey. My bf really like Mai Tai Hula Bula.

Yelp
What's not to love? Rum- The drink of the Gods is plastered on the back of their tiki themed drink coasters ( I'm on a coaster collecting spree around Perth town) The entire place is the size of my lounge room, but boy howdy do they pack in some tiki hut decor. Absolutely adore this place. Staff super friendly, one even said my Tina from Bob's burgers tattoo, was the best he'd ever seen. I must be a cool kid too. The alternative tattooed team were shaking and mixing the craziest looking drinks I've seen for a while. The tiki and palm tree swizzle sticks made them awesome, the plastic jungle animals and shrunken head monsters that garnish them made the so cute. Someone please do this in Sydney!? Noise level can be loud, but there was a hen's night going on in one of the booths, and B2B was pretty plastered and high pitched by that point. Book book book. There were two of us but we had to stand. All good but it's kind of awkward because you're kind of in the way of everyone. Great for pre something else drinks. Peruse the glass cabinets for which Rum you'd like, there is even one that costs $300 a shot. Yikes. If you like Don the beach comber's Zombie cocktail, you're in luck my frand. If you like $6 sailor jerry "as you like it" special on Saturday night between 6-7pm. Get in. So sweeeeet.

Yelp
We think the Hula Bula Bar is fantastic! A small bar with a nice vibe tucked away just off Hay Street. We adored the theme, the music and the decor very much. It's a really comfortable, interesting and inviting place. The staff are chatty and friendly. There was a DJ on and a group of friends were playing dominos, and on a Wednesday night it had a good flow of customers. The cocktail menu has plenty to choose from. We tried four different cocktails and two came in particularly interesting and quirky glasses with lots of decoration. The drinks match the decor of the bar and were a delight. If you're looking for somewhere unique to visit in Perth I recommend starting here and then heading off to Devilles Pad. :) Really pleased we have discovered the Hula Bula Bar!

Yelp
Hula Bula will always have a place in my heart...I have many fond memories from being at Hula over the years. Great music, delicious tropical cocktails ...what more could you want? Where tiki bars are in abundance over in the states, i have to say Hula Bula is one of the best tiki bars i have been to. The decor, from it's SHAGtastic prints and vintage posters to its hand carved tiki bar, it is nothing short of eye catching to the plainest of Jane to the hippest of hip, and If you're lucky, you might get to catch my dear friend Razor Jack spinning some great ska and calypso tunes. The cocktails themselves have always been award winning. Even after years of the coming and goings of staff, they have always maintained the most delicious cocktails i have ever tasted. Although pricey, they do use a very good selection of high quality rums and other concoctions, and they are well large enough for you to sit and sip on for a while. I think my all time fave is their Mai Tai...i've been to Hawaii, and i have to say, I couldn't find a decently made Mai Tai on the whole island of Oahu. Also the Bikini Bottom is worth a mention, being my second fave cocktails at hula...plus they do a virgin version without the rum, for you drivers still wanting to experience a proper Tiki cocktail. Its quite a small place, so huge groups not ideal, but if you get in early enough you might be lucky enough to score a table. See you again soon Hula..!

Yelp
The tiki inspired bar pours delicious cocktails in a brilliantly detailed fit out in the city's CBD. The highly competent staff mix up an extensive range of delicious drinks that take you to a tropical abyss. The fit out of this bar is absolutely second to none. Immense time and effort have gone into the unique fit out and you can feel the owners passion for all things tiki as it permeates through every square inch of the venue through the art, bamboo, even down to the custom designed uniforms worn by the staff. After a couple of lazy drinks here it is easy to get swept up in the atmosphere and truly believe you are someplace faraway. The music is usually hits from the 1960s that are as fun as the decor. When you are there make sure you try the shrunken head - it is a rum explosion of the Caribbean kind.

Yelp
It is a scientific FACT that you can't have a bad time in a Tiki bar. It's true. How can you resist the music, the quirky interior and the juicy, delicious drinks? So naturally as soon as I found out that Perth has a Tiki Bar I immediately demanded to be taken there. Hula Bula Bar is... good. It's not the best but it's not the worst either. I was keen to purchase a drink where the glass is included (those are the best kind of drinks) but unfortunately on this particular night they had run out of the particular glass that goes with that deal. Dang. I went with the Kato Monkey, which was a yummy mix of gin, mango, lychee and pineapple. Naturally I ordered this because it appeared to come in a glass shaped as a monkey and if I wasn't able to keep the glass I was at least going to get a photo of me with a ridiculous glass. It's what instagram would have wanted. Turns out, there are no monkey glasses either. There were no funny glasses at all at Hula Bula! Silly glasses are the very essence of a tiki bar. Yes, the drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was fun, but Hula Bula definitely needs to work on their glassware.

Yelp
Hula Bula holds a special place in my heart. Tucked away on the edge of the CBD, you wouldn't know it was there, which is half of its charm. There are numerous reasons why Hula is one of Perth's best bars and I've narrowed it down to an easy read. - Rum As one of my favourite spirits, a good selection of rum makes me extremely happy. - Cocktails I love the cocktail list at Hula. It makes me order drinks I wouldn't usually think to try. They're also creative with their list. The tiki is totally present, but it's not just about that. Also, bonus points for amazing and hilarious garnishes. We once left with a small plastric frog that sat on my friends finger. Hours of hilarity insued. - The decor and layout Quinticential tiki, the two spaces in Hula allow for groups, dates, quiet drinks and big ass parties. - The staff I have never had anything but outstanding service at Hula. Everyone who works there is there to make great drinks and have a good time. What more could you want from a bar. - Bathrooms Good bathrooms. Tick. Funny mirrors. Double tick. (welcome to the house of fun....) - Clientelle Every person I've met at Hula has been an absolute gem. It sits with the idea that good people attract good people. A good bar, run in a really good way, with a good ethos, attracts good customers. - It's meant for fun Hula does not take itself too seriously and I love that. It's a tiki bar. Get in, drink some rum and have some goddamn fun!

Yelp
Hula Bula - an awesome little bar! - great cocktails and rums - excellent service, staff are pleasant and quick on the shakers - excellent dressing up of glasses - good for a cozy corner with ya girl, or for a group up to 6-8 people, it is quite small inside - little back area for extra room - great atmosphere with the tiki jungle theme - good music and laid back beats - weekday themes and happy hours - get in early on weekends to secure a table I shared my first kiss with my girl here....will always have a soft spot for Hula Bula...

Yelp
Tiki bars are synonymous with loose nights and good times, and Hula Bula well and truly remains faithful to the tiki spirit. The decor is kitsch without feeling cheap (think plenty of bamboo, tropical airbrush paintings, leopard print, wooden carvings and palms) and the drinks are strong, fun and chock full of rum. Come for the laid back atmosphere and novelty of it all, but stay for the great times, very accomodating staff and hangover that will last long into the next day. Special mention goes to their cabinet of premium rums - a big ol' glass box under lock and key that proudly boasts an incredible collection of rare, vintage, and specialist rums from all across the globe. All available to buy and try of course, but be warned, while the special hooch is incredible, it doesn't come cheap.

Yelp
I'm not usually a fan of ultra-themed bars, because when you show up in your best Saturday party dress you look out of place in comparison to your surroundings. But I make an exception for Hula Bula Bar. I've always wanted to take a trip to a Caribbean island, but as a scrimping and saving twenty something year old the opportunity has obviously never arisen. But after a few (pretty potent) cocktails in Hula Bula bar I start to feel I'm at a Hawaiin luau. Plus, throw a lei over any outfit and you'll blend right in! The themed décor in here is amazing, especially in comparison to the concrete jungle outside in Perth's CBD. Packed to the rafters with bamboo, palm leaves and interesting little carved statues, Hula Bula Bar is a tiki wonderland. They even serve some of their cocktails in creepy little tiki mugs! Speaking of the cocktails - damn, they're good! All Caribbean inspired flavours, so you know they're brimming with rum, pineapple, coconut - all great flavours that make your mouth feel like it's on holidays! And the music is great to boot!

Yelp
It was the sexy cocktail pictures on the Hula Bula Bar website that seduced us into meandering over... Nothing like a picture of a pink plastic skeleton lounging in a cocktail bath to get a powerful thirst worked up! It turned out to be the fog cutter, one of the signature cocktails for two ($36), and el queso grande and I were definitely up for the challenge of tackling this potent concoction. By the time the we cut all the fog, we'd made friends with the neighboring table, had the skeleton drink topper dancing on the table, and we'd taken up pirating on the high seas...it's that kind of quality establishment! Parting Thought: keep an eye out for drink specials! And dress sharp on Saturday night or you may find yourself rumless!!!

Yelp
Best cocktails in Perth! On the more expensive side, but are boozy and so, so fun! Hats off to the owners of here and Devilles Pad, not for just having THE best decorated bars but for also having a place for people of any age to enjoy themselves! My favourite place for after work drinks! Come for happy hour Friday till 7 $10 Mai Tais! YUM
google avatar

Yelp
Great theme, hidden gem in the Eastern end of the city. Every time I go here I get swept away to another place and time with the music, venue and cocktails. Good prices and good sized cocktails with cool little surprises in every cocktail!
google avatar

Lee-Anne P.

Yelp
Hula Bula Bar took the Tiki theme and ran with it. The bar looks amazing. The drinks list is also in keeping with the Hawaiian theme with an impressive selection of beautifully presented cocktails. This is a fun place with a great atmosphere for a drink. Be warned though, it gets crowded quickly on weekends, and you really feel it because it is small and enclosed.
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
Absolutely love this bar! The decor is all crafted by a dude who specialises in Tiki interior and theres a wall cabinet filled with all types of qwerky Hawaiian cups you can buy! The staff are super friendly and will help you order a drink to suit your needs. Lettuce be cereal though, you're here to get boozy on the cheap and this place offers some baller discounts, Friday nights $10 Mai Tais until 1900 and Sundays $5 Becks Definitely a favourite spot

Yelp
Fun bar love the toys in the cocktails, nice to go somewhere different on a night out, great bar
google avatar

Lilli D.

Yelp
I like how this is a themed bar as Perth doesn't have many of them. it's really small inside and it always gets packed. It's still a lot of fun tho. The cocktails are weird and different... in a good way. It's a great place to start before heading out into the city.
google avatar

Pippa M.

Yelp
I'd forgotten how much I love this place after abandoning city living many years ago! Awesome cocktails and the bar staff don't take twenty mins to make them! More rum please!
google avatar

Yelp
I use to work in East Perth so on a Friday my friends and I would meet up at Hula Bula Bar for Friday after work drinks. The place is decorated amazingly and the drinks are so good, with animal and zombie decorations and crazy straws. Love the happy hour $10.00 mai tai specials on a Friday night which usually ends up turning a couple of quiet drinks into a night out all over Perth till 4am! The place is pretty small though so I would suggest booking a table if you have a larger group attending.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
This place was very different but super fun! The tiki theme was throughout the whole bar! Even the drinks came with little umbrellas or cute rubber jungle animals. The bartenders were very helpful in our drink selections and we noticed there is happy hour on Fridays.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
We booked a table for 7 at 4pm on a Friday. At about 5 it started getting very busy. The cocktail selection is awesome! It's remarkable how fast the staff can pump out complex cocktails when they are under the pump. It was zombie night and all the staff were dressed accordingly, which was fun. $10 Mai Tai's are strong between 4pm to 7pm which usually heads you in a direction for an early night if you're not too careful. I liked it.
google avatar

Louise C.

Yelp
This place is great! The attention to detail at Hula Bula is sensational, from the decor to the staff uniforms and then of course the cocktails! Anywhere I go now that doesn't put a dinosaur in my drink just won't measure up! The staff seemed to be having just as much fun as we were, which really contributed to the happy vibe. The music was great too! I'm not from Perth and was pleasantly surprised to find such a groovy spot in my travels.

Yelp
Tiki puts a smile on everyone's face, right? I remember my first visit as a fresh 21 yr old and only remembering expensive (yet strong) drinks... Fast forward a few years, with a few visits to Hawa'ii in between, and happening to move to a place within walking distance, this bar has become an undeniable (if not ever so lightly tacky) favourite. The cocktails (of which there are many) are strong, perfectly balanced, and always prepared with care. The guys behind the bar know what they're doing - I've never had an "I'd better check what the ingredients are" experience here, and I've had pretty much everything on the menu...probably at least 4 times over... Since they've started Island Nite on Wednesdays I've had even more excuses to come regularly, thanks to the ridiculously tasty jerk chicken & curry goat from Kazz's carribbean kitchen and $6 rum mules- love it.
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
Hula Bula is great, mainly because it is different. it has a great vibe and awesome Decor. the only problem is... its a small bar.. like a realllllyyy smalll bar! lovely cocktails though, which have a dash of fun (plastic monkeys hiding in your drink kinda fun)
google avatar

Anthony T.

Yelp
We live in a multicultural society here in Oz. Always have. And while I don't mind the odd themed bar in my travels, I must say I've always detested the Hawaiin gig. So it was with trepidation and a lot of arm-twisting that I finally came along to Hula Bula Bar. As I'd guessed, it's themed right down to the uniforms and ubiquitous bamboo decor, but naff aesthetics aside, the vibe in this place is actually quite chilled and fun. I visited on a Wednesday but would be keen to see what kind of crowd rocks up on a Friday night after work. Might I suggest a cute Fruits'N'Suits theme?
google avatar

Tia N.

Yelp
Over Priced, watered down cocktails. Really disappointed with the selection and quality of the drinks.... If you want a true rum bar with a much better atmosphere and not so cheesy stick with Sneaky Tony's!!
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
One of the most unique bars I've been to...ever. You feel as though you've stepped into an underground, tropical, tiki wonderland. It's all about the detail in the decor and the cocktails, that are super inventive and delicious! The space itself is pretty small with not too much seating, so drop by with a small group of friends and take advantage of the happy hour specials!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
Omg. This place sooo tiki tiki cool!! It's has some of the nicest cocktails with fun straws and stirrers. I had my birthday here last year and I booked the back rooms which I suggest to do so if you're going to be going out with a few people. It can get really busy as it's pretty tiny. The toilets have funky mirrors which can trip you out for ages after you've had a few drinks.
google avatar

Alexis F.

Yelp
No stars!! Just refused a group of 5. Reason one girl "being intoxicated" absolutely false. All parties have had a few but in full control. Door staff unreasonable and mouthy. Bad form!
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
The best cocktail bar I have been to in Perth. Very chilled out with great staff who are willing to have a nice long chat at the bar. The cocktails are also above par and in a reasonable price range for Perth. The decor is fun and interesting. Well worth a check out and a good drink.
google avatar

Yvonne S.

Yelp
A fun venue, it's nice to meet friends in this fun atmosphere. Hula Bula has not given way to the trend of poser bars swarming Perth which are same same only different. The staff are efficient and friendly. I'm a fan because it is different, a bit of a novelty, dim lighting, plastic fruit and a shrunken head over the bar aren't as tacky as they sound. Give it a try, you may only go once or twice but vive la difference!
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed hanging out at the Hula Bula bar. Great drinks, fun decor, and a good vibe. Watch out, though. Those fruity drinks are *MUCH* stronger than you'd think. Wooooo...
google avatar

Scott O.

Yelp
Rum, rum and more rum. Quite small but has a cool tiki theme and the cocktails are great. $10 happy hour Mai Tai's on Fridays! Say no more.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
Decor that transports you to a Hawaiian wonderland .. Chilled vibe... great cocktails.. strong cocktails.. the place is bigger than you think so move on down, it'd also get you away from the noise because it can get very very noisy.. but hey all the more to cozy up in the corners!
google avatar

Jamie N.

Yelp
Drinks are a bit pricey here but they do pretty decent cocktails. The decor is pretty funky and right to get you into the mood. However it's a bit of a way out of town and not really close to anything else here

David F.

Yelp
I still remember the first time I ever went to the Hula Bula Bar. I was 22 years old and my girlfriend at the time was 21, as we showed our I.D to the two bouncers at the front they informed us that they don't usually let people under 25 into the venue but they were willing to let us in because we looked presentable. This is not uncommon at the Hula Bula Bar, some people under 25 get in and some don't and that's just the way it is. This has become such a touchy debate it was even a feature story on the H.A.C.K program on the Tripple J radio station. The Bar itself has an awesome atmosphere with a tropical theme. It is pretty small with only one bar and two rooms so it can get pretty packed. As far as cocktails go, I'm no expert but every time I speak to people about the bar itself they always have something possitive to say about the cocktails. All in all, if you're from Perth you should definitely experience the Hula Bula Bar.
google avatar

Luke P.

Yelp
Fabulous and qwerty little cocktail bar. Feel like you walk into a tribal jungle scene directly from the city streets! Very cool. And the cocktails are tasty. $10 cocktail specials on selected nights and times.

M M.

Yelp
For some reason it took me months for me to visit Perth's renowned tiki Bar. It's something I regret, because this bar is ace and one of the first that any tourist should visit. The cocktails are gigantic and strong, and with a menu that's as long and as colourful as a comic book, it's no mean feat trying to choose a drink to start off with. I let my drinking companion decide on my first visit, and she selected something which name escapes me, but I remember it had 'monkey' in the name and I received a finger puppet. As seems to be the trend du jour for bars these days, Hula Bula is miniscule and better suited to after work drinks with a close knit group of friends rather than an intimate setting for a first date or a place to browse for potential dates. It's completed fitted with a cacaphony of tropical and tribal themed paraphernalia, which is overwhelming at first but incredibly kitschy and fun all at once. My only gripe is that there is no dance floor, not that there's room for one.

Joshua K.

Yelp
I have been a regular to this bar as I'm usually in Perth for work from Sydney bringing many new clientele with me every time. I had the unfortunate experience of being refused entry last night because I was wearing shorts? It's the middle of summer and a Hawaiian/island themed bar. Even though I was still dressed quite smart with a shirt and shoes the door guy had attitude and was completely rude. I will never return to this bar or recommend it to anyone else.
