Tasty and authentic Hawaiian food. Enormous portions. My combo plate had four chicken thighs and about a half pound of kalua pork along with rice and mac salad. All delicious. Warm service. Room is plain and drafty.

The food is always excellent here. The macaroni salad and even just the rice have great flavor and texture. Given the surrounding environment, there’s some sketchy crowds around the restaurant, but that’s hardly in their control. Where the location does fall short is with the front service ladies. The older woman is okay, but the younger girl does not care. I sat there for ten minutes while she stood by the soda fountain on her phone. I had even asked her if my order was ready as I looked at the bag of food on the counter, which was coincidentally for me. And was told no as she went back to her phone. This aside, I would get food to go from here again. I just hope that customer service gets better.

On my initial visit to this establishment, I opted for the Chicken Punahele Mini Plate, a novel culinary experience for me. The chicken's tenderness and flavor were exceptional and left a lasting impression. However, the rice was unremarkable, similar to what one would expect from a Chinese restaurant. While the macaroni salad was satisfactory, I felt it lacked the desired depth of flavor. In terms of customer service, there was a notable lack of it. Upon entering, I was unsure of what to expect, and the initial individual who greeted me merely pointed me towards the menu. When I expressed my desire to dine-in, the response was a simple "okay" followed by a quick departure. The atmosphere was also unsatisfactory, with a sense of uncleanliness and an overall unkempt appearance. I enjoyed the chicken, but it was not enough to warrant a return visit for me.

This place has its charm for Hawaiian food/grindz. The place is not located in the best of locations and has broken window on the entrance door at the time but don't let that stop you from getting some awesome Hawaiian interactions and food sections from the inside. The employee inside definitely was from Hawaii and had all the mannerisms of it. I missed it so I loved it. For food I went something simple and got spam and eggs. It was good but next time I will go for the lau lau.

My review of today’s lunch visit at Hula Hand located at Mountain View was very disappointing. We ordered the combo plate of teriyaki chicken, beef and kalua. The chicken placed on the bottom of the other chickens were burnt and dry. You can easily tell the difference between freshly cooked and old left over chickens. The kalua was definitely dried without any flavor. My disappointment with the quality of the food led me to post this review and lesson learned NOT to ever dine or order food from this restaurant.

One of our favorite places to eat food from home when we visit Alaska. I can never remember the location if it’s Mountain View or Fireweed, but look for the truck with a big photo of Diamondhead (Mt.Le’ahi ) painted on the side. We always get a big steamy bowl of love ( aka saimin) and can get hot mustard so we love it. portions are impossibly huge, we love the sampler platter so we can get a taste of everything.. kalbi and katsu, Teri chicken, the best Mac salad, musubis… and just like most great Hawaiian diners, the decor is simple and cheerful . Photo credit : Hula Hands Facebook page Because look at the sampler 😍 Saimin photo is my own 🤙🏽

Very friendly environment. The owners always make sure to take care of their regular customers and new customers alike. Great food at an even better price!

Yelp
Love Hula Hands. I usually get some poke to start and a combo meal for variety. You won't go wrong with chicken katsu or kalua pig. Writing about it is making me hungry.

Grace P.

Yelp
I love love love hula hands. This place is consistently so good & reminds me of living back in Hawaii. The Kalbi ribs are my absolute favorite! This is, by far, one of my favorite places in Anchorage.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Hawaiian plate lunch with lovely service in Anchorage, Alaska? Yes, please! After much debate, we tried the Tongan Special Plate (Kalua pig, turkey tail, beef steamed in spinach, and 2-scoops of white rice) and the saimin. The proprietor sensed our excitement for trying new dishes and she brought us a sample of teriyaki chicken and beef, too. Everything was delicious (especially that pig) and after sharing our visit on social, we heard from friends who grew up in Anchorage that Hula Hands is a fam-favorite! If ever back in Anchorage, we'll be back; in the meantime, highly recommend you visit!

Yelp
Can't go wrong with this place! Extensive delicious menu with generous portions! Friendly people and service with a laid back chill vibe. My goto is the Shyou poke appetizer. Fresh chunks of ahi tuna swimming in a savory sauce with ginger bits and sweet Hawaiian onions. The best in town! For my meal, I love the mini combo plate with pulehu chicken. Love love!!!

Yelp
I've tried several different Hawaiian BBQs in the past and I have to give Hula Hands food a slightly higher "star" level than the other places I've been The restaurant is pretty small. About 10 tables sitting up to 40 guests. So it can get pretty loud or busy. Their hours are somewhat limited too. Closes by 7 everyday. When you walk in, the Hawaiian vibe Hoonānea ("ho'oh-nă'-nē'-ah") - to relax is in the atmosphere. Don't expect fast service when busy. Just chill and enjoy the people and order a can of the variety of Hawaiian Sun drinks and patiently wait for your server. Now the food: We had the following 1. Nui Super - 4.5 Stars - which consist an order of Pulehu Chicken and Kahli Ribs - [thin slices of short ribs] - ( both marinated in Teriyaki sauce) and were cooked over a grill. Meat was juicy and tender. It comes with 2 scoops of Rice and 1 Scoop of Homemade Macaroni which was flavorful and light in Mayo. Not too much and not too little. 2. One order of Kahlu Pig. 3.5 stars - shredded roasted pig w a single scoop of Rice and Macaroni. It was a little too salty of our liking. 3. Nui Super - 4 stars- Pulehu Chicken and sliced beef. Same items as option 1 4. Side order of Lau Lau. - 3.5 Stars - Salted pork wrapped in Lau Lau Leaves. I missed the white fish that normally with the salted pork. Maybe I ordered the wrong Lau Lau. Service was great. Only one person to serve the 10 tables including takeouts so ordering and getting the food can be a little bit longer. However, the server was fantastic, friendly and professional. We talked as we waited our food and we he wasn't helping other customers. When he served us our food, he asked he if he could pray w us - blessing our food and those who helped making the meal. - 5 stars We were the last one to leave and the employees were relaxed, professional and wanted to talk. So be good to your server and the people around you and you will have a wonderful meal! Enjoy the pics

Greg S.

Yelp
The food tastes great. The pork was excellent,. Very juicy and no bbq sauce needed. Poke, awesome. Great little stop. Large large portion. Two of us split the meal and had to box it up.

Adam O.

Yelp
The food here was really good (the mac salad is really good). I highly recommend the short ribs.

Sander R.

Yelp
Was really impressed with the food...it was the best beef teriyaki that I've ever had. Portion sizes were large as well. Service was very friendly and prompt. Strong recommend.

Patricia H.

Yelp
Out and about Saturday and you know when you get hungry and your favorite spot is down the road... you go. The service is fast and friendly. They do offer take out so if you don't want to wait order ahead it will be ready when you get there. I got the Kalua pork plate. It comes with 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of Mac salad. When it's available we always get the fried wontons. If you haven't tried them yet, please do and get the hot mustard too. The pork was smoky and delicious when you take a bite, get a little of everything trust me it's bomb. We had to leave cause the little one got restless so we packed it up paid and left. We usually get it to go when it's just nit the twin and myself. But that day I felt like we should eat in. Nope the little had other plans. Try it out and let us know what you think. Everything we have tried is amazing. My twins favorite is the beef stew.

L.K. W.

Yelp
Food & service are fantastic! A tasty bit of Hawaii right here in Anchorage! The venue is divey. The staff are the sweetest people around.

Brittney B.

Yelp
My husband and I love Hawaiian food so we tried Hila Hands while on vacation and it did not disappoint. The service was quick and friendly. We ate here later in the day so the dining area was closed, but we were wanting to get it to go anyway so it wasn't a big deal. We ordered two of the Hawaiian Sodas, Fruit punch and lilikoi passion which were both delicious. We ordered the mega combo with the beef stew, kalua pork and chicken katsu. They made a mistake and gave us the beef teriyaki instead of the chicken so they just let us keep it and gave us an order of the chicken, so that was awesome! The white rice is really yummy with a little soy sauce and spicy mayo mixed in. The Macaroni salad is always one of my favorite parts of the meal. The chicken katsu and kalua pork were both hot, juicy and flavorful. The beef stew had a good flavor, but only had one piece of beef in it so that was a little bit of a let down. We also split a pineapple upside down cake which was moist and delicious. Rating from a F to an A+++ I give it an A++. We would definitely eat here again.

Jordan M.

Yelp
Always a great restaurant, you can't go wrong with! Huge fans of their marinated chicken and kabli ribs. Upside down pineapple cake it's always a winner with me!

Lovette R.

Yelp
Who knew you could get Hawaiian food in Alaska!!?! This was a great find on our way out of town. The owner was very personable and helped us order. The pork was very moist and tender, beef was probably my favorite and teriyaki chicken was flavorful. This is not a fancy place but it's welcoming and comfortable. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Chris S.

Yelp
Food was amazing!!!! The staff is very friendly and offered great suggestions on what to order. Try the Chicken!!!!

Simon N.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! The employees are incredibly kind and gracious, and they do their best to get the food to you as soon as possible!

Quincy B.

Yelp
Amazing food!! The teriyaki chicken is so juicy and tender and they serve without question the best macaroni salad I've ever eaten.

Kimberley H.

Yelp
Chicken Katsu is absolute amazing., and my husband gets the chicken teriyaki and we have never had a bad meal

Jolynn L.

Yelp
Ambiance was very relaxing, staff was amazing, friendly, and welcoming! The food... oh the food... I didn't take any photos but...the food was ok. My friends had hyped up this place so much that I was very willing to give it a try. Living in Hawaii for half of my life, I love love love Hawaiian food!!! The laulau, barely had meat. The taro leaf was overwhelming that we had to use the kalua pig to add a little more meat in it as well as extra salt since it didn't have taste. The Kalbi was too drenched in the sauce. The kalua pig tasted good, just a tad dry. BBQ chicken tasted delicious and juicy! The Mac Salad was the best part of our meal! We imagined it could be an off day or what have you. We will definitely go back again as the staff were amazing!

Joanna B.

Yelp
A friend recommended this place. The best Hawaiian food. It's scrumptious. Not huge fan for kids unless they are use to the food but we like it a lot.

Brian H.

Yelp
GREAT FOOD! Been wanting to try this place for a while. Today a few of us decided to make it happen and we were glad of it. We came in for lunch, there was about 5-6 people there we we arrived. We were seating immediately and given a bigger table to accommodate us. I settled on the Mini Plate plate which had Pulehu Chicken and Kalua Pig with rice and macaroni salad. The chicken was cooked just right, had a carmelized glazed crust with tender inside. The pork was pulled and flavorful. The macaroni was very well seasoned and the rice too. The servers were all nice and attended to us well, we had everything we needed to make the meal great. We will be back to enjoy another in the not so distant future.

Anastasia B.

Yelp
This used to be my to-go place for actual Hawaiian food. Unfortunately the service has dwindled into being completely non existent for even pick up orders. I'll grill my own chicken and make my own rice from now on, I don't need to feel like I inconvenienced the business by patronizing it.

Ryz M.

Yelp
Delicious food and nice ambiance, big portions! Feels like you are in Hawaii all Chicken, poke and ribs are superb!

Joslynn L.

Yelp
Great food for even greater prices! It's no wonder they're so popular. My fav dish is the teriyaki beef & chicken katsu.

Jamie L.

Yelp
Service and food was great! Huge portions, super friendly staff. Authentic! Combo Plate

Carlos C.

Yelp
As soon as I opened the door I felt this place was going to be good. It was like walking into a backyard barbecue (the smell of the grilled meats in the air). I had the beef and bbq chicken combo and a side of spam musubi. This is by far the best Hawaiian meal I've had. This is my first time visiting Alaska and the only other Hawaiian food I've had is from a known chain restaurant, that I still love, but nothing compared to this place now.

Nicole R.

Yelp
I came here for the first time with a coworker for lunch since we were in the neighborhood. First impression is overall good, nothing more nothing less. The main issue I had is what I ordered wasn't what I expected. I ordered the seared ahi tuna poke plate. The tuna wasn't seared, but cooked almost all the way through. I still enjoyed my meal, but I would have preferred if the tuna was mostly raw and just a little cooked on the outside. That said, the sauce on the tuna was delicious. I could taste the fresh ginger and the soy sauce is a nice accompaniment to the ahi. The two scoops of ice and scoop of macaroni salad were pretty run-of-the-mill. Overall my meal was the perfect lunch portion size and it was presented nicely. The servers were friendly and the restaurant has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I definitely want to give this place another try. Maybe I'll order the poke from the appetizer menu instead.

Luz M P.

Yelp
Oh so good the ribs are the best ever, I came all the way from Nevada to try them and this is worded

Celico C.

Yelp
WOW. I'm the damn DUKE here and I have never wrote a review. Holy Hell thats a sin. Literally writing this in the parking lot. So. Let's just say this is my top #1 for most affordable and appetizing food in Anchorage. This place brings an all new meaning to bang for your buck. Just $12.50 will provide you with.. 2 scoops of rice. 1 scoop of macaroni salad. Your 2 choices of either beef stew, chicken, pork or teriyaki beef ribs. Sure you might be thinking damn all this food for $12.50... well shoot whats the damn quality? HIGH quality food that just TASTE like it's been made with love. I adore this place I really do. The BBQ chicken is amazingly tender and juicy with just the perfect grill flavor on em. The Korean BBQ ribs are tender and so good you'll prolly suck on the bone.. well at least I do. I could go on. This joint is great I advise anyone and everyone to check it out. PEACE.

cole c.

Yelp
Good food, Inviting ambiance, Service was polite and respectful. Definitely a great place for lunch.

June K.

Yelp
Kalbi plate but the kalbi ribs are not cooked, as you can see in the photo, it's still pink. Also, the rice is not cooked but cold and crunchy as if it were just pulled from the refrigerator. I'm very disappointed. I tried calling and no answer. But living across town doesn't give me much motivation to drive back to them with this plate. The two stars is for the customer service.

Jae C.

Yelp
One of my favorite lunch spot in Anchorage! If you're craving some Hawaiian foods, this is it. They have authentic delicious Hawaiian food that will satisfy your taste buds. The parking lot is always full. It take some time for them to prepare the meal (20-30 min). They are not fast food or quick grab. Food portion is very generous. They don't have military discount. If you're eating inside, the service is attentive and friendly. Just expect to take more than usual time waiting for foods. I'll definitely return though!

Pechocha C.

Yelp
It is so sad that a place with good food has such a poor customer service. People think they are making us a favor...we are paying people! If you don't like to deal with people, DONT work in customer service!

Dennis H.

Yelp
Very disappointed with Hula Hands on Moutain view today. They are my favorite Hawaiian food stop, but did not live up to that today. Their sign said they were open, and their windows were open. The doors, however were locked and a sign on the door said "carry out only, short staff". I looked in through the open windows and there were 4 people sitting at a table with no food, talking. They saw me, but did not acknowledge my presence. I don't know that they were employees, but it seems a logical guess. Didn't get any service or food. Too bad

BV S.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Anchorage! Great food and very friendly service! They are always open to talk story while you await!

Kel O.

Yelp
I have been here twice and I have not been disappointed. I love the atmosphere, the staff, and the food is over the top. I could hang out in here all day. It will be one of my go-to places when I just want to wind down and eat comfort foods. LOVE IT.

Carmen R.

Yelp
Fantastic food!!! We had the Kalua pork, chicken katsu, and fried rice. Everything was so good! I can't wait to go back and try more things here!

Charito R.

Yelp
I called and called many times to place an order. No one picked up. And when I got there I told the girl why weren't you guys picking up. She had an attitude I was by myself. No she wasn't they was more than a couple of them. She had a bad attitude.

Georgia D.

Yelp
The lu pulu is a amazing here. Wrapped and steamed in a beautiful taro leaf, this is true comfort food. The macaroni salad has to be one of the best I've had in a while. Simple food, spectacular flavor.

John Y.

Yelp
I really have to give them some credit for being generous with their portions. I ordered a take out from them and then when I opened it, I was pleasantly surprised with their generous portion. Here is my word of reprimand to any customer who finds reasons to complain when they receive a big portion: Don't ever complain when a restaurant gives you lots of food! Just be thankful and take it home for your next meal.

Kendall N.

Yelp
Portions portions portions. Well worth the wait. You can tell literally everything is made in house, by hand, and to order. The pork and chicken are moist and so flavorful. Macaroni salad is the best around. Portions are huge and so fulfilling. I ordered the spicy pork nachos with salmon ceviche on top. Literally HUGE value for the money. Plate was $9 and easily could've fed 4-5 people. My fiancé ordered the pork and chicken combo with rice and macaroni salad. Nachos were a little greasy but that's to be expected. Everything else was ultra flavorful and customer service was wonderful.

Paula S.

Yelp
Super delicious food!! I have no complaints about this place. I had the teriyaki chicken and bbq chicken. Everything was amazing and I also had beef chow mein which tasted like heaven!! Would definitely recommend this place.

Desiree M.

Yelp
I normally would give this place five stars. I was so excited to come back to Anchorage and this place was on the top of my list of "go to's". I do absolutely love their macaroni salad and they just know how to cook rice perfectly! The luau pork (called something else) to me seems pretty unflavorful and quite fatty. It is not as good as I remember. The beef is fantastic! I would come here for it, it is also pretty fatty, it always seems to have that fat grain, im sure its just the cut of meat, nonetheless its a keeper :) Go for the combo plate. You can for sure split this, it is more than enough for two! I tried the masubi and it was just as it should taste. Huge and great paired up with the perfect rice :)

K. H.

Yelp
First, the food is fantastic. We've ordered from here many times. But this is honestly the last time. I'm pretty disappointed by the curtness of the woman at the register, who takes phone orders. On a separate occasion, she interrupted me politely confirming that there was teri sauce in my bag on pickup, saying that it was "already in there, if you want more you have to pay extra." (I didn't ask for extra, just asked nicely if it was already inside since we have gotten home with our food before to find no teri sauce). There was not teri sauce in either combo, just a cup of barbeque sauce in one and of course we didn't realize until we got home. Today, it was the same impatience and really rude tone over the phone, pretty much from the second she answered. After making a pickup order, I was mid-sentence, just trying to say that it would be a male with a different name picking it up when she just hung up on me. It took three tries to call back since it just kept going to voicemail, and when I was able to get her back on the phone she interrupted me lightheartedly saying that she had hung up before I could finish (I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was unintentional). "We're busy! Do you want to add something else to your order?" and again, before I could finish my sentence "We don't take payment over the phone!" I would have happily ordered online, but they have their system turned off. These two calls were 57 and 27 seconds long, but apparently I am just too slow and annoying. The food and patronizing a local business is not worth being talked to like I'm an a**hole.

Hannah M.

Yelp
I had to update my review on a couple of different sites. As a local and loyal patron nothing irks me more than when a restaurant gets too big for their own britches: Hula Hands apparently has. They have enjoyed increased success over the last few years (thanks in large part to the military at the original location) and that is AWESOME. Apparently none of that 'success' has been put back into their business though. Instead we now experience long wait times in a building packed like sardines and are paying MUCH more than we did before. ...Really disappointed lately, but I have confidence they can change this around - the food speaks for itself!

Bethany V.

Yelp
Hands down ;) the best place to eat close to base! Would choose it over Canes, Roadhouse, Panda, etc. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh. The macaroni salad was delish and I loved their pineapple ranch on my salad! I recommend the pulled pork and chicken!

Chrissy L.

Yelp
I haven't been here in literal ages, but I decided to stop by & order some kalua nachos. Man, these were some of the best kalua pig nachos I've ever had. There was just enough sauce & there was lots of kalua pig. I loved the food. The service was beyond great & all the staff that I encountered were really friendly & nothing but smiles. I definitely plan on coming back soon.

Jonathan G.

Yelp
Absolutelyy love this restaurant! Makes me reminisce of all the good times in Oahu. The chill reggae music with the delicious local Hawaiian food comes together perfect. The servers are home heart welcoming and polite.

Kori S.

Yelp
The chicken was great!! I got the cabbage with onions, it was okay - maybe a bit more seasoning needed. I was little disappointed that the regular combo was 3 pieces of chicken and one large cabbage wrap with 3 large scoops of white rice for $14. It seemed like the bulk of the food was rice. I also got the spicy Polk. Yumm! Well worth the price for that.

Tricia H.

Yelp
The lady at the front is the only reason I'm giving any stars. She was very kind and pleasant. I ordered Katsu chicken. My son ordered a double cheeseburger with lettuce and pickle. This was our first time going to Hula Hands. I was excited to try their food since my coworker loves the place. My chicken had absolutely no flavor or seasoning, the macaroni salad was bland, and the rice seemed old. My son's cheeseburger didn't have any lettuce or pickle which we ordered. He looked at the burger and refused to eat it because he said it looked disgusting. I believe at one time, this may have been a great place to eat. We will not be coming back. Hopefully the owners see this and make sure the food is fresh, seasoned, and accurate before it gets to the customer.
