We had high hopes for Humble Kitchen given its prime oceanfront location, but unfortunately, the overall experience fell short. The atmosphere felt slow and somewhat flat, which was surprising considering several tables sat empty throughout our visit despite only one being available when we arrived.
With a party of four and planning to spend around $100 per person, we expected a much higher level of food and service. There was no “wow” factor. The ahi, which came recommended by our server Cody Y., was disappointing, completely lacking in flavor and tasting as if it had been frozen, despite being advertised as fresh. Even if it was fresh, it was a bland cut. I gave honest feedback when asked, but the response I received felt dismissive and irrelevant, with a comparison to “fresh frozen” fish in Japan that didn’t apply to the situation. If you ask for feedback, it should be welcomed, not brushed off.
Service overall was just okay. Water was kept filled, which we appreciated, but forks were forgotten, cups and items sat on the table uncleared, and there wasn’t much enthusiasm from anyone who came by. Details matter, especially in a fine dining environment. There was even a nonworking pen with the check at the end, small, but noticeable.
We’re local business owners and believe in leaving accurate reviews because feedback helps businesses improve. In this case, we felt the food, service, and energy all missed the mark for the price point. It wasn’t a terrible evening, but for what we spent, it was a very bland experience, and all four of us agreed we wouldn’t return.
